    I always wanted a universal node that delivers all environmental data at once - Shelly Motion2 is as close as we can get to this right now.

    I will wait to see how it perfoirms once it is actually released. I am currently using Philips Zifgbee PIR's which also do light and temperature and are very reliable. I also like what is exposed for control and monitoring.
    The Philips has:
    temperature: Measured temperature value: 21.29°C
    occupancy: Indicates whether the device detected occupancy: Clear
    battery: Remaining battery in %: 100%
    illuminance_lux: Measured illuminance in lux: 442lx
    illuminance: Raw measured illuminance: 26453
    motion_sensitivity: led_indication: Blink green
    LED on motion detection
    occupancy_timeout: 5 second
    linkquality: Link quality (signal strength): 105lqi
    Hope this helps - Many thanks for the video/review. Yours are always interesting, thorough and honest. Keep up the great work,

    Cool video!
    I honestly prefer to get a "one device does it all" sensor, but I also recognize that if I have a hardware problem (battery fails, sensor dies) that the loss is bigger.
    I'm currently playing around with esps and sensors and trying to make my own from off the shelf sensors.
    Couple of examples:
    Hal sensors are super cool (Haven't got one of these yet thought)
    BME688 (Bosch sensor, temperature + humidity + air pressure sensor + gas sensor - Get in touch if you're interest in this one :D)
    BME280 (Bosch sensor, temperature + humidity + air pressure - the firmware is super mature, you can set it up to do averages and add filters to improve the sensitivity of it. super cool.)
    You have much more granularity when you make your platforms like this. For example, with the BME280 you can make it so that the readings come out whenever you want (by default, 60 secs, but you can increase/reduce it)
    And for the BME688, with the correct setup you can "train" the sensor to recognize specific smells/gas/etc. I'm loving this :D

      I like the idea of a room node. What's always been a trouble is the power. ESP is too power hungry for PIR and contact but you can totally get away with periodical environmental data as sleep policies are good.
      I know BME series these are pretty capable modules.

    Unlike Shelly relays, the new motion sensor’s durability are questionable, I’ve have 2 out of 5 where battery won’t recharge in 6 months of ownership

    Silly question.. Anyone know how far the wifi antenna built into the shelly sensor can send a signal BACK to the router? Does it match a routers typical output range?

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  Рік тому

      With range, it's always a 2 way thing. The comm range will depends on the router and the gadget. I live in 2 story building with 4 bedrooms. I tested the sensor in each room and I had no problem. Your experience beyond main walls may vary

    I have a couple of Shelly buttons and the original motion sensor. What sold them to me was the fact that you can run them via MQTT out of the box with no firmware flashing required, and that's good if you don't want to be tied down to using the manufacturer's own software. Although this Motion2 seems pricey at first, considering it has temperature and light sensors built in, not bad value for money if the quality is as good as their other products. I don't think the vibration sensor wouldn't be much use for me though; humidity level might have been more handy to have.

    • @notenoughtech

      I wonder if you could detect doors being closed/opened with vibration sensor

    • @MrJozza65
      @MrJozza65 2 роки тому

      @@notenoughtech I did wonder that, or perhaps window breakage by burglars. But I think that would be better served by a separate dedicated vibration sensor as often you want a PIR to be at the opposite side of a room to the possible point of entry.

    This is an interesting little device. Definitely worth a look. That said, I do prefer a device that is properly calibrated before goign on sale rather than these ones that have an offset as the offset at 15 degrees could be different to the offset at 30 degrees. That said, can't knock the price of these. Shelly have always done well at getting reliable devices at a good price point.
    I use to want everything spearate and to have all devices being there own thing, but honestly now I am about space saving ,so a device that can doo multiple things is good for me. I have a few Hue Motion Sensors which do luminence, temperature and motion. In the bathroom I did get an Aqara humidty and temperature sensor additional though as I wanted the bathroom exhaust fan automated. Definitely would have preferred if I could of had motion, humidty, luminence and temp all in the one unit.

      The selection of sensors will be always a sticking point - as we all have slightly different needs for different rooms. What I can't believe is just the number of ppl telling me how its rubbish cause it uses WiFi without checking the supported technology

    Wd love a video on how to setup the mentioned webhooks to get the data into Home Assistant for someone who has never heard of 'webhooks' or know how to use them :-)

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  Рік тому +1

      Webhook is basically a web requests issued when something happens. Like when you turn on your light, you can send a web requests saying "hey my office light is on" and pass this message to another server (like NodeRed or HA) these need to be formatted according to what your server expects. Then the information become usable in your server and you can either apply changes or talk back to the device that initiated contact.

    If you sleep through an earthquake, how can you be sure you wake up from a message on your phone or an alarm. I suggest to mount the motion sensor above your head in the bedroom; so if it falls off the wall, it wakes you up.🙃

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  2 роки тому +1

      I'm sure the sound of the crashing plates would do that. I lived through one earthquake in my life - about 4.0 not much, but one of the things I noticed was how quiet it was. Earthquakes are silent

      It was my joke in reply to yours. Referring to you not hearing anything while you sleep.
      So it’s rendered useless. Unless it can still warn you doing it’s intended job of waking you up, by falling on your head.
      If one has to explain a joke, one is reminded of, how bad the joke was. 😉😂
