blue crane he’s not the greatest guitar player and he will admit that . He’s used to get intimidated by the amazing musicians he’d have to play with in the studio , but he kind of learned he does his own thing and that’s cool enough. I REALLY agree with u on the songwriting tho! I remember the first time Name came on the radio. I was driving and had to pull over. It still hits me the same way!
I was 12 when this aired and going through preteenage angst the words just spoke the truth. Fast forward I'm now 40 and the angst is gone but the words are still so deep it gives me chills. Goo Goo dolls are the most underrated band
I agree 100% things will never be that way again. From the music, movies, wrestling, renting videos. Very lucky to grow up in that time. Miss it daily.
Every song by them that has hit the radio, has been nothing short of perfect. I really can;t say that for most bands that I listen to. Goo Goo Dolls are the only ones that can make a song and make it stick in the mainstream world! Mainstream popularity sucks, but these guys just have that unexplainable zing.
So much nostalgia for the 90’s. I’m sure everyone feels that way for the decade they were growing up in from a child to a teen. Obviously the 90’s were not perfect by any means, but when you’re young and you’re oblivious to the evil of the world and even what’s going on past your couple blocks of your neighborhood, life is so good. When you get older, the longing for that feeling again that you will never have again sucks! But man I loved this band!!
An amazing song from the greatest musical era of all time. Everything was great in the 90's. I miss my teen years a lot listening to perfection like this
I heard this song on the movie angus in the theater 20+ years ago when I was a young teen. I'm teaching my kids how to play it on guitar and bass now. This song is simple to play but so amazing.
3 piece band yet the sound is so solid! john’s distintive voice sounds a trademark of Goo. Goos music and lyrics are inspirational most likely in their latter albums. Rock and Roll music is dead when the Earth reached its millenium. 90’s was the last wave of best music and I considered the golden age of music in terms of varieties of genres. Mainstream, underground or commercial music it still great for the ears. long live the 90’s and Goo👌👌👌
I just love this band, I remember when Name released. He is an amazing song writer and his guitar skills are mad! To me your songs are real....and I know you get it....they have always spoke to me.
You'd be very hard pressed to find a band that can do a live performance this well today in any genre. I love music and there are many great songs but this is probably my favorite song of all time.
MANY THANKS for posting this...because I remember watching this the evening it aired, and never forgot it as they dove into the EggNog! Great 90's memory from David Letterman.
I'd greatly appreciate it if some Goo Goo fans would view my acoustic piano & vocal tribute version of NAME, which you can find by clicking on my channel. Thanks and please pardon the self promo.

This is your brain , this is your brain on eggnog , any questions ? :) but seriously best live performance iv'e seen of this song ! good memories of 1995 ....doesn't seem like 20 years ago, hearing it again brings u like right back to "95"....good times !!
This is my favorite song of all time. When I'm on youtube looking for "Name" videos I usually come back to this version...maybe my favorite. Seen the Goos 15 times and their music has a way of getting to me (in a good way).
I live in Buffalo and one day my older brother told me that the Goo Goo Dolls had a video on MTV.....a few days later I saw it and knew the song was going to be huge....Johnny and I had the same hair and I ran into him at the Hard Rock one day and accused him of stealing my look...
This thing at the end should have got more press. The Goo had more marketability that what their handlers set up for them. Down to Earth. Relatable. Talented.
I saw the music video on MTV in 95 when I was 14. I had no clue that within a few months, I would be a big fan of theirs up to this day. What hooked me was "Naked".
Thanks for the upload! If you haven't yet, please go see GGD live. You won't regret it. And check out their more recent releases. Side note: The "mean people suck" sticker is so 90s. Love it.
these guys were one live band! I love all of their music from the HMU-DUTG era, but this is one of my all-time favorites they need to play this on the radio more where I live. . .
I just went to see them in Bangor, Maine 🇺🇸 and they played for an hour and a half. He spoke maybe 2 minutes in total and just hammered out one song after another for 90 minutes. Different guitar for each song brought to him by his stage crew. Hardly a word switching guitars and right into the next song. I'm not sure if it was that it was the second to last show of the tour or the cool weather of very late September in Maine, but he was on a mission to play music and nothing else.
Johnny Rzeznik is most underrated I think. His voice is great and he's a helluva good guitar player and songwriter. One of the best I think.
I agree but who is playing the main guitar in this though lol?

An underated band definitely, 1993-2002 they were one of the top five bands in the world undoubtedly
Underrated guitarist, the guitar parts he writes are fantastic

Why when I come and listen to a 90's song on UA-cam it makes me miss so much the great artist of the 90's. Only if we had a time machine!

Im 48 and I approve this. However, the songs now are so deep for so many more reasons for me.
The warmth and crispnesss of the sound from his tuning of his guitar is unreal
Yep.
I miss the 90's everything from music to pro wrestling was amazing.

I hear ya! I was fortunate to be in junior high, high school, and college all throughout the 90s. An epic decade for all music genres!
@@swoopdaddy3143 Yeah! Was the last great decade for rock. 😩😩😩 Also miss my baggy jeans and flannel shirts!

Dang I feel young 😂 cause I'm like one of the only 13 year olds here

Desolate Soul Johnny R and all his million alternate tunings lol. I love it!
I was 8 years old when this aired. I've loved Goo Goo Dolls since.
"and don't it make it make you sad to know that life is more than who we are?" one of the best pop lyrics of all time.
or...I think about you all the time, but I dont need the same.
The lyrics aren't pop
One of the coolest things to ever happen in 90s America: Seeing David and the Goo Goo Dolls together on TV.
I grew up on this song.. Any decade any venue every performance it still hits home.... "Sure I think about ya all the time" Legend!!!
This band is underrated!! Saw them last night for the second time amazing live great songs!! Love them!
I love the guitar tuning in this
The days when jeans with holes in them were homemade. 90s nostalgia is running deep tonight.

John and Robbie are a great team. Couldn't replace either one of them.
Watching this on new years eve in 2022. Just reminiscing how good the 90s were.
Mitch Hedberg was truly versatile.

He's a very humble guy. He's the most perfect celebrity.

Almost 30 now, and it's still such a great song on a phenomenal album.
So nostalgic. I was 14 when I first this song back in the 90s. How time flies.
Something about that riff... cling cling clng clang... it sounds like my chilhood all over again. That guitar just rings
