If this helped inspire your creative journey, here's another flip-through sharing my powerful gratitude journal: ua-cam.com/video/7SeqFodkAc0/v-deo.html
So if u think someone's journal is perfect than it is somehow not 'real'? What does one thing have 2 do with the other and why is there so much venom towards the journal community with artistic talent?
@@robyndismon394 I think a lot of people want to collage and don’t have the artistic talent. I think a lot of the time there are just people who appreciate a more raw, less artistic style because it really inspires someone who is intimidated with making something perfect. Less standards going in, more enjoyment.
@@JazzyJP You use the terms 'standards' and 'perfect' to describe journals made by those persons with the talent OR ability to do so. I am, admittedly a bullet journal, flip through junkie. I am over the moon when I watch these videos and I am also deeply inspired by them. That said, I have yet to ever hear a content creator describe his or her journal as perfect. Never. I have also never encountered an instance where anyone referred to their creative skills as a standard. So as much as I want to understand I'm still baffled. If the viewer decided that a bullet journal is perfect, that's a personal decision, not the fault of the content creator.
@@robyndismon394 I agree with you there. It’s all subjective. I believe as well as you that there is no “perfect” journal or art style. I agree with all your points. All journals are real, whether it’s stick figures or masterful art. I love it all, because it’s someone else showing their art and hard work. I think social media has engrained these journal/bujo “standards” just like the makeup industry has “beauty standards”. There’s no perfect in that world either. I’ve never heard anyone call their journals perfect either, unless it was in the sense that they’re purely appreciating their own art, which they should!
I think that you are really unique! While most youtubers seem to have their journals just to brag how good they are, because everything is SO pretty and they don't seem to make a single mistake. But in the same time their journals seem to be missing the most important thing - personality! Your journal on the other hand is just lovely! It is really like a journal should be - a journey in someone's life. And it would be very strange if life was pretty all the time, because we all have a lot of gloomy days and sad days and all kinds of days and you really captured that! Life can't always be pretty!
I agree! I've seen people who have a "practice journal" so that in their actual journals there won't be any mistakes. Life is full of mistakes so I don't see why a journal should be spared from it.
Thank you for your encouraging words, Monica. Yes, I'm much more comfortable sharing my private journaling pages online in hopes to inspire others to release that "picture perfect" pressure. Our journals should be a true reflection of our selves, our own creativity, and our own personal experiences/thoughts. Trying to mimic staged pages online can sometimes paralyze our own creative flow and leave less for our own unique spark. So through this video, I hope it shows and inspires others to just let loose and do whatever comes naturally. 💕
@@screablue people just have their own preference on how they want to Journal... And Journaling isn't just about one thing. There are different ways of journaling. Maybe those people who have practical Journaling are using that journal for exactly that thing, "practicality"
@@sayzer0s who is talking about practicality? I know there are a million ways to journal and that is personal to each person. What I was saying was that there are people who has a journal to practice their spreads and the actual journal in which they do the spread they practice because in that sort of "final" journal, there shouldn't really be mistakes. That's also an old practice, I haven't seen it in a while. I did once when I started to show my journals and I know I wasn't the only one. But that has nothing to do with being practical. Practice means, to do something over and over until it's good enough. Practicality means to act and being efficient. :)
Prior to social media I use to journal similar to your journaling pretty religiously. It’s interesting how much social media has become a distraction that robs us of our creativity.
Michelle, I can't say this enough.. your videos are simply magical and so inspiring! I anxiously wait for each one of them here and on Patreon. They just make me so happy and prompt me to chase after my own pages... Thank you for sharing!!
I am so grateful to have found your video!! You have made me feel so much more hopeful about my ability to journal! So often, I have things inside me that I want to get out and write down, but I often do not do it because I worry about esthetics. Is my handwriting pretty enough? Do I have a nice background? Do I have cute stickers or washing tape or ephemera? Does it look like the pages I see on UA-cam videos? More often than not, the answer to all of these questions is NO, not even CLOSE! Thank you for not being perfect! You inspired me to write in my journal tonight for the first time in a month. God bless you! Signed, a new subscriber
I love these chunky journals. The crumpling of your pages give the notebook such character - thank you for sharing, I am so inspired by your lack of structure, I would like to learn a breakdown of your supplies, specifically those alpha stamps. I am very hard on myself and try to create perfect pages and it keeps me from being satisfied.
Recently bought a Moleskine pocket notebook~ Absolutely loving every bit of it--I use it as a rolling weekly agenda using the Alastair method and adding inspirational quotes or words of affirmation every other page cc: Especially after trying to follow the popular bullet journaling design seen on ig and stuff, it didn't work out for me and got pretty much burned out. So following your channel these past few weeks, learning to start focusing on my unique self definitely made my little bujo planner that I appreciate sooo much thanks to you. Cheers from LA~
You may wanna try what I do... I make my own journals at 3x to 4x the space in between pages and lots of extra room in bindings. Since I found myself stressing out more and more and more about the book becoming too fat and I never was able to finish any of them. I sew mine together I fold one page in half with a string in between where the fold is. And I stitch the cord (usually hemp cordage for separation, and a thick sewing string for sewing everything together with a needle to help push it through. But using one, rather than using a double thread sewing stitch and having a series of random knots at the end of my book......) inside of the paper individually, followed by adding another string into the crease after stitching to separate the pages once again. And then I repeat until I have enough pages. And until there is a hemp cord secured in between every page of the book, individually. And then I repeat using two pages and sew more hemp cordage in between (where the bindings would be, in between the two finished pages.). To make spacing, and I keep adding and sewing until my book comes together. And when I’m ready to bind, I sew my sewn pages into an accordion piece of hard paper, the inner cover pages and such. and then I sew on the cover. **sometimes I add a thin translucent washi paper in between each page, which works in helping me avoid transferring media from one page to the next, and blending my work together (I use charcoal and chalk as well as pastels, glitters, dried flowers, leaves, fabrics, and everything in between. ). You’re work is great and gave me a whole bunch of kick ass ideas....and since you were cool enough to share your personal journal with me, Ifeel the need to reciprocate and share my process with u. Maybe you will be as happy reading this as I was watching. Cuz you’re amazing... and your voice is liquid calm for my spastic autistic brain. So thank you. From a total stranger. Who’s day you have made hecking brighter with your sharing and calm creativity. That’s all I got Love and peace from AJ the Aspie. XD

Great flip-through as always. I'm curious though, I've noticed that when you paint, you gravitate more towards black and yellow; is there a specific reason for that? like I said, this is just out of curiosity =)
Thank you so much! And no. There is no particular reason why I choose black and yellow. I just pick up whatever color fits my mood. And it could be that they're two of my favorite colors. 🤫😉
It varies. Sometimes I write first then use paint to add a pop of color to pages. Sometimes I paint first, creating a colorful background for my writings to layer on top. It's just however my creative mood is that day.😅
"Signs follow, they do not precede"? I don't get that. If a sign is following you're backfilling what you want that sign to say, not what's coming. Odd quote.
It means that you put up signs once you know where they are too. Eg imagine you are building a town, you put up the signs once it is there not before or at that point they would point to nowhere. In other words you become something and then you point to it or see the signs of it
