This looks lovely! I like your doodling style, too. Some very good tips here. Oh, also, I'd like to reassure my fellow book lovers. I used to feel absolutely awful about ripping or cutting pages out of books. Or even letting them get damaged in any way at all. They're beautiful and sacred! But after working in bookstores for 13 years and seeing just how many perfectly good books get thrown into a recycling bin or just plain thrown away, literally put in the trash for no other reason than that there were too many copies or too many similar books, I've come to believe that buying those books just to rip them up is still good. It's giving them a second life, a home, a purpose, when they'd otherwise most likely be sent to a landfill.
When Ansel’s work was ripped up I had some sadness, but I also know what it feels like to find that perfect mountaintop in the middle of a great book.Ansel was given away so that she might make this awesome art journal vid...and inspire other soon-to-be artists. The circle of life, man 🙌✌️
This is an excellent point! I worked in a big-name bookstore years ago, and I was horrified by how many books were just pulped. Seeing that pained me way more than using books for artwork.
I used to feel the same about ripping or cutting pages or pictures from books. I've always looked at books as something sacred and untouchable. Until a few years ago when I moved out of my childhood home and found that a lot of old books and pictures left behind by my parents are ruined in the process. I cut some pages and pictures that I could save and moved them into my journals. I found that I've given them new purposes and a new life. Still feel the same with any new books cause I also realised that I rarely return to some of these books once I am done reading them :)
Yeah. A lot of UA-camrs are like, holding up a pencil and like, "Yo what's up, I got this AMAZING product for only $300! If you know anything about this, you know that's a steal!" Okay, that's extreme hyperbole.
i think this is a better alternative (in my personal opinion), because they would just throw it out after that. And bonus if it resonates with what you're looking for and maybe your own theme! I do feel bad about the papers but raw papers are easier to recycle and papers that are multi-layered (added with plastic like magazines) are hard. So if you can use it and give it a new home, go for it! i like to use brochures that people forced me to take and make something like a collage(?) Something like Poster Boy lmao.
I do something similar. At my uni library, they have old magazines that are free to take for students. A lot of them are Times magazines so they have some really gorgeous photos in them.
You only have two videos??😱 I was getting ready to binge watch your art journaling videos until I clicked on your channel and saw that you don’t have more! It’s ok though, I can wait😌
Omg thanks for this video. I've watched a lot of people bullet journal and I've always felt overwhelmed because they have all these cute supplies and everything, and I don't, so this video helped me, and inspired me.

Hey best tip for dealing with an exacto knife is not to put pressure (pressing down hard while cutting), because there is less control, since it's supposed to be sharp, you just create a crease cut by just lightly (resting on the surface) and then go over it multiple times with the same pressure until it comes apart. Depending how thick the material is will depend on how many times you will have to go over it. Hope this helps to keep your fingers safe :)!
this is totally the style I look up to, it's so pretty yet simple 😭 ((for the nails I found it useful to actually have a goal like, I used to pick at my lips but this year I decided for snake bites so yea I wanted some pretty lips maybe, lol. just aim for nail polish even if transparent and you'll see how short they are, it's reallly hard to stop like I still unconsciously do it but you see results pretty fast, I saw with my brother just a couple weeks and they were normal nails again, just wanted to share my recent thing since I never actually stopped that much even tho I bled and didn't rly like it! ))
I stopped biting my nails by making it not only about me. So me and my friend decided that if I was gonna stop bite my nails they were gonna get 8 hrs of sleep every day. That really motivated me.
I don't want to make you sick but biting nails is such a risky thing to do! Do you know how much bacteria lives underneath those dead projections at the tips of your fingers? YUCK! Think about where those hands go and if that doesn't cure you I don't know what will. You're welcome. (Just kidding about that last bit.) :) Good luck and please quit.
Yeah im 25 and i only stopped biting my nails last year, its still hard to stop the urge, but i do agree with nail polish. It helps a lot cause it catches your eye more often than not as its going to your face, so your brains more likely to register what you dont want to do!
I already bullet journal but I feel like putting my art in it kinda ruins it as I like a more minimalistic theme in there but I just rlly need a space like this. And wanna try
seriously love how you do your journaling!! it gives me lots of inspo + ideas. you should do a bullet journal/art journal flip through when you’re done! 😊
I’ve watched so many of these ‘art journal tips’ videos (bc i’m super un-creative but love art journals/collaging lol) and this one is probably the most helpful by far! I actually got so much info and inspiration from this so THANK YOU! just subbed 💓
My grandma always said she was uncreative too, but she was awesome at making clothes. She didn't consider following a pattern to be creative, but I disagree. It's a guideline to show you how to do something. So if you're ever feeling uncreative don't be afraid to watch a tutorial. And you might find that you are creative, just not in the way you expect. I always wondered why my art sucked, then I made this beautiful pumpkin sculpture around Halloween and I figured out that I'm better with crafting in the 3D space than drawing 2D characters. So don't be afraid to pick up crocheting, knitting, sewing, cooking, anything and everything because even if you think it sucks then it's a learning experience. Tutorials are your friend. :)
i jus use my school printer to print stuff like these since i am the one running our computer café and i doodle on the blank sheets of paper and stick them in my journal
Instead of using the back of an old book, you could get an old placemat with a cork like material on the bottom from a thrift store instead. It would be cheap, better for the knife, and easier to cut on.
my mom refuses to buy anything else for me, because of the number of journals i've bought and wasted because i screwed up _one_ page. i wanna go to a thrift store, but there aren't any near me.
I have absolutely fallen in LOVE with art journaling over this quarantine helps me so much to be productive and give me something to look forward too! It also really helps with my mental health thank you so much for giving me so many great ideas and inspo I love your vids!
i kept seeing tiktoks about these journals and really wanted to start one but i don’t have money so i’m using a random dollar store notebook i have and random things around my house.. i hope i do okay
You can turn anything into an art journal. Everything will turn out amazing. Dollar tree has books....you can buy one n turn it into an art journal, junk journal, bullet journal, glue book.....whatever you want it for! Lizzie Brewer....scrappin' lizzie.....she is who taught me to make a repurposed book n i made a baby book for my niece with it. Dollar tree has tons of art stuff now. Some stuff us "just as good" so dont be worried you cannot make it happen. I have literally spent thousands of dollars on art journaling stuff....stamps, inks, paints, stencils, scrapbook papers, stickers, all of it....all ive got is a gigantic overload of stuff sitting @waiting to be used. Ive so much every go thru is like a treasure trove. Save your monies n if u can get it via the dollar tree do so. 👍 P.s. there are a ton of repurposed book tutorials on youtube. Lizzie just happened to be the first to pop up. Many many talented artists n teachers on here. 💯🦋🦋🦋🌈
My first art journal (didn’t know that’s what it was but lol) was made of brown paper grocery store bags. I cut pieces into very jagged, uneven circles (unintentional), used a $1 hole punch, and tied it with scrap yarn. It took acrylic paint really well and is one of my favorite journals ever even though I never finished it. You can use absolutely anything and I’m sure yours is already looking great right now!!
I suffered from having a fear of journalling again but i'm still trying to get through it. I was wondering on how often you do journaling? and what inspires you to continue doing it
UK peeps, Moleskin are on sale for about £12 at Homesense :) x Love your videos! This has inspired me so much to do it because i loved keep sketchbooks like this when i was younger
I never heard of this until this video. I knew people could be creative with their bullet journals but not like this. I would think that it's more for the sake of crafting and art and less for a true journal. What I got from this is that it's basically a form of scrapbooking. It seems like it would be a good way to reflect on your day by creating a new page centered around your day or week or whatever. Basically scrapbooking.
Art journaling looks so fun! I've been looking into it and I do some bullet journaling here on the internet but since I love art it seems like a good idea. Maybe I will get my hands on an art journal later this year!
I have been very stressed lately and wanted to start journaling to calm myself down. This was the first video i watched about it and cant wait to start. ps unsplash is awesome thanks a lot
Girl - I’ve never seen anyone else bite around their nails like I do. It’s from bad anxiety and I’ve done it as long as I can remember. It’s my biggest insecurity and it was so comforting to see someone else like me 🥺❤️
just to keep the pressure off, you don't have to own that many pens and markers or even buy a new notebook to start journaling. 🤣 i literally just use a gtech to write and the rest of my materials are magazine paper cuts from thrift store.
Finally a journaling guide video that is actually a guide! 😌 I loved all the tips (yeah including the thrift store books, though I'm a book lover, but also a recycling lover). Your ideas on how to find pictures on unsplash and Google are next level! Can't wait to start using all of these, so thanks. And keep up the good work 👌
I'm a leftie as well and I hold my pen EXACTLY like you do and my fingers are a little sad from biting too. Feels good to not be the only one with these kind of nails. Really hate that people always have perfect nails on youtube xD
I am not sure if you know who Ansel Adams is but I just got so excited when I saw that you found that book and cried a little when you cut that mountain from it :/
I have a bullet journal but I don’t do bullet journaling I use it as a dream journal and idk why I didn’t buy the lined version for it but I will next time 😂
I have a few books that I annotated in high school English classes. I've been hoarding them for years because I couldn't bear to throw them out, but no one would want to buy an annotated book from Goodwill...they would be perfect for this :) thanks for the ideas!
I've been journaling and now art journaling since I discovered 10 yrs ago.i too suffer from anxiety and agoraphobia. Art of any kind soothes my anxiety. Thank you for the idea of art books at thrift stores! You did come across my recommended videos and I'm so glad you did. To others who aren't interested, then go on by, we don't want any negativity.
this was so lovely and helpful, thank you so much! and it was uploaded on my birthday, haha :D also, i just want to say i constantly pick my nails and the skin around them (bc anxiety disorder), so my nails always look pretty much the same as yours. seeing your nails was weirdly comforting for me (though obviously i wish we didn't have these habits but you know) bc i feel like whenever i watch art and/or journaling videos everyone has like gorgeous 2 inch nails and it makes me feel even worse about mine. so i feel v comforted now uwu
This was so great and actually relaxing to watch, lol. You've given me the inspiration to start my own scrapbook journal 😌 xox Also.. I love your writing and doodles
I just wanna say thank you~ you inspired me so much!! I would have never thought about ripping out papers and printing some out i also noticed you clip your paper in your notebook to keep it down, i just thought that was genius!? Anyway i really loved this video and now you have a new subscriber💜
I understand the nail bite. I tend to do that when I am so stressed out in doing things! I am trying very hard to overcome my bad habits. lol. Because of this habit, I tend to look at people's nails when I first meet them especially boys. Hahahaha😂😂😂😂😂
This is the first time I watch your videos and I immediately subscribed bc as a cheap woman like myself can actually relate on how we use our creativity to make things looks very creative and at the same time spend less than what it appears to be.
I'm try so hart to see how you layered your diy "polaroid" ? I can't get a pic to go inside or on top of my polaroid png and your video was too stinkin' fast for me lol. I tried to see what you were doing and couldn't figure it out. Can anyone please help me! Please!!!
Dude, you have no idea how comforting it is to know I'm not the only one who tears apart their fingers lmao 😭💖✨👌 I've tried quitting so many times, I always fall back. As soon as I see the white line of nail growth, the URGE returns. At this point I'm gonna have to make some jalapeno nailpolish or something because that bitter nailpolish doesnt do shit😭 Outside of that, these sre some really good, tips! 💖💖💖
I’m so glad I found someone who’s nails look just like mine! I can’t seem to stop picking at my nails either and it’s so painful. :( Love the journals by the way! I’m so inspired by your videos
The video is so quiet! But I'm glad it involves cheaper materials. I can't always do pages with six different paints, each of which costs $20 per colour. I'm not even going to be using the page I made in a month so... like... lol
Idk why but I always hated journaling for no reason, but when I started making journals at cafe/school with my friends it became interesting and a lot better :D
What the hell, finally I found ideas.. cheaper and more food for me. And also i was thinking hard to choose which book to destroy. Now i don't have to..
It looks amazing, so creative and I love your style! I want to give you so much compliments but usually when I get compliments from strangers it just feels like blank words.. But really tho, I mean it!
So happy to find someone like me :) rather than buying expensive stuff I also look for the cheapest options to create something!!! I like collecting maps, city journals etc. they also have good pictures. New to your channel but loved it so much :)
This looks lovely! I like your doodling style, too. Some very good tips here.

This comment needs a star ⭐️ totally agree especially if the journal is personal and it’s going to be a second memory/ story
When Ansel’s work was ripped up I had some sadness, but I also know what it feels like to find that perfect mountaintop in the middle of a great book.Ansel was given away so that she might make this awesome art journal vid...and inspire other soon-to-be artists. The circle of life, man 🙌✌️

s u n k i s s e d yes, but all book material is not created equal and not made to last. My thrift stores no longer accept books!
finally! a youtuber who finds $20 expensive 😌
Aria Azure right?!? most are like “yeah. i just got it for like $60” ugh! 😂hun i need like $10 or less
Lol it is a treasure
Juliana Azul Ikr!
Right! 20 bucks is a bit much if I'm going to pay that much money for something like that there better be stuff that comes with it.
Yeah. A lot of UA-camrs are like, holding up a pencil and like, "Yo what's up, I got this AMAZING product for only $300! If you know anything about this, you know that's a steal!"

I honestly just take all the free magazines in the airports etc instead of thrifting, they also do great for journaling purposes :)
Such a great idea! I’ve never thought of that 😱

@@zaggity yeah I honestly felt guilty when printing some pics for journaling, that's why now I opt for some free/old stuff

ahah airports....
Every book lover got scared watching this video
Oh my god I've never gotten this many likes. Thank you nice people ;D
hahaha I know I’m sorry 😭
@@itsbriannacollins I actually think I'll use some of your tips, even though I don't have the courage to cut books XD
Same haha
Hahaha yes!! I was looking with horrified eyes but the turnout was so pretty! ☺️
Same! i was literally like I don't think I'd have the heart to rip up any book no matter how cheap it was ;-;
You only have two videos??😱 I was getting ready to binge watch your art journaling videos until I clicked on your channel and saw that you don’t have more!
It’s ok though, I can wait😌
Urban Pineapple same! 😲☺️
I was saying 😭
Follow her instagram account, she has many videos about journaling!!!
Me tooo
Omg thanks for this video. I've watched a lot of people bullet journal and I've always felt overwhelmed because they have all these cute supplies and everything, and I don't, so this video helped me, and inspired me.
Kistnasamyxx 💛 thank you so much!! I’m glad it could help! You don’t need expensive materials (but if you have them, that’s perfectly okay also!)

It hurts my heart that you are going to cut up the Ansel Adams book.
I enjoyed your video though, TFS 💚😁
Lisa Marie 💛 thank you and I’m so sorry I know it can be painful for book lovers 😅 I still have most of the book perfectly intact!
Brianna Collins - I always buy two of any photo books that I plan to cut up. That way I still have one and I don’t feel so bad about cutting it up.
@@sign543 i thought i was the only one that does that lol

It helps a lot cause it catches your eye more often than not as its going to your face, so your brains more likely to register what you dont want to do!

seriously love how you do your journaling!! it gives me lots of inspo + ideas. you should do a bullet journal/art journal flip through when you’re done! 😊
Thank you so much! ✨ I have 3 more spreads and then I’ll do a flip through!
You literally took some aesthetic pictures and somehow made them even more aesthetic I love it!

This was the best guide to beginning an art journal that I’ve seen. Love how you go step by step etc..... can’t wait to watch more!
I love the Polaroid trick. Ever since I found out I've just been doing it on almost every spread lol😅
It just feel wrong to rip pages out of a book like that but at least they’re being reused
I second that; as someone who had to get 9 stitches...please be careful with an exacto knife. lol
i jus use my school printer to print stuff like these since i am the one running our computer café and i doodle on the blank sheets of paper and stick them in my journal
Ansel Addams is one of my favorite photographers, it hurt my heart to see the book torn up hahahaha
wow i’ve never seen someone freehand stars so perfectly 😍
is it just me or is the audio really low
You know what? To make an art journal i used a 99 cents notebook and a one dollar pen.... Sooooooo.....
Edit: for one dollar it's a great quality
Great video! Pixabay is another website where you can get pictures 🙂

Great tutorial! Also when you’re in your car it reminds me so much of Alanis Morrisette’s “Ironic” music video! 😁
P.S. the masking tape thank you for tyrning me on to this tool I already know it's going to be super useful seeing you use it
this is so inspiring! thank you for this guide, this evening i’ve done my bujo following your advices and it turned out super well!
I can relate to you in the fact that I bite my nails all the time and I'm also left-handed.
Me too 😁
I have a few books that I annotated in high school English classes. I've been hoarding them for years because I couldn't bear to throw them out, but no one would want to buy an annotated book from Goodwill...they would be perfect for this :) thanks for the ideas!
Man I want those photography and gardening books as coffee table books so bad 😂 I gasped when she cut the Ansel Adams book 🙈
Always look at the clearance section!!! They have really cool stuff there.
this was so lovely and helpful, thank you so much! and it was uploaded on my birthday, haha :D
also, i just want to say i constantly pick my nails and the skin around them (bc anxiety disorder), so my nails always look pretty much the same as yours. seeing your nails was weirdly comforting for me (though obviously i wish we didn't have these habits but you know) bc i feel like whenever i watch art and/or journaling videos everyone has like gorgeous 2 inch nails and it makes me feel even worse about mine. so i feel v comforted now uwu
This is a great video. Followed you on Instagram for ages but didn't realise you have a UA-cam! Going to rewatch soon and journal along w you :)
Fascinating, but as a book lover, I was cringing watching you rip those books up.
How AWESOME!! This is the first time I’ve seen this kind of art project and I can’t wait to try it out. You are so cool by the way :)
This was so great and actually relaxing to watch, lol. You've given me the inspiration to start my own scrapbook journal 😌 xox
Also.. I love your writing and doodles
Thanks for sharing your process for art journaling!
Nice video I love the look og artjournaling but I don't have the time.
Btw chick-fill-a does, as far as I know, support anti lgbt organisations
I just wanna say thank you~ you inspired me so much!! I would have never thought about ripping out papers and printing some out i also noticed you clip your paper in your notebook to keep it down, i just thought that was genius!? Anyway i really loved this video and now you have a new subscriber💜
You are so talented😍🔥
You’re brave to show your Hands on camera I could never I’d be so scared(I bite my nails too).
Love that idea - Thrifting for books! I love thrift stores, but I never thought to grab books for scrapbooking. Awesome.
I understand the nail bite. I tend to do that when I am so stressed out in doing things! I am trying very hard to overcome my bad habits. lol. Because of this habit, I tend to look at people's nails when I first meet them especially boys. Hahahaha😂😂😂😂😂
I am really love this art... Wonderful video.. احب هذا الفن جدا.. فيديو رائع♥️
Thank you 😍💛
This is the first time I watch your videos and I immediately subscribed bc as a cheap woman like myself can actually relate on how we use our creativity to make things looks very creative and at the same time spend less than what it appears to be.
Ok I've watched a ton of art journaling videos on how to get started and yours is my favorite. Thrifting books and dollar store items saved me a ton
Just download a photo app and make a collage of images u like , no need to put them on word document
finally, not a 2 minute video that actually tells you information.
I'm try so hart to see how you layered your diy "polaroid" ? I can't get a pic to go inside or on top of my polaroid png and your video was too stinkin' fast for me lol. I tried to see what you were doing and couldn't figure it out. Can anyone please help me! Please!!!
You just have to cut the picture ans resize it to fit the polaroid. You can also download the app nomo turn images into Polaroids.
Dollar Tree is a good place for cheapie books!
This video just made me grab my pens and bujo💕
Dude, you have no idea how comforting it is to know I'm not the only one who tears apart their fingers lmao 😭💖✨👌 I've tried quitting so many times, I always fall back. As soon as I see the white line of nail growth, the URGE returns. At this point I'm gonna have to make some jalapeno nailpolish or something because that bitter nailpolish doesnt do shit😭
Outside of that, these sre some really good, tips! 💖💖💖
Omggsh your books are too good to rip pages out aaahhhhhh!!!
I’m so glad I found someone who’s nails look just like mine! I can’t seem to stop picking at my nails either and it’s so painful. :( Love the journals by the way! I’m so inspired by your videos
Thanks for sharing your tips etc. I feel I actually could do this and that’s saying so much because I’m artistically lacking lol.
Thanks for the tips! I love that you censored your bum ☺️
Tim holtz distress inks would be nice on the ripped edges
The video is so quiet! But I'm glad it involves cheaper materials. I can't always do pages with six different paints, each of which costs $20 per colour. I'm not even going to be using the page I made in a month so... like... lol
you are really inspiring me so much and I love you work its literally great! im glad that you have a channel right now, thank you for help tho♡
What's the name of the font you used to write the name and prices of the supplies? Amazing video btw
I definetly want to start art journaling
This got me so excited to try creative journalling!!!
