John Amos An Iconic African-American Figure In American Television Was Disrespected By Mariah Cobb.

  • DID YOU KNOW?
-John Amos was fired from Good Times because he spoke up about the show becoming too buffoonish
-Good Times was supposed to be about a single mom and Esther Rolle fought to have a father figure in the show
To me, John Amos was the best and strongest Black father figure in TV history.
And to Mariah Cobb. Why would you do that? That was very disrespectful .
R.I.P to the legendary actor and amazing man John Amos. Thank you for being such an iconic African-American figure for American television and movies.

He was a much needed affirmative, yet caring, stand up, protective, strong minded, straight father figure for blacks as well as anyone else that these days is in short supply of. @LilyBell-Beneaththecrust2023 Indeed. And if you try to, a lot of these folks will tell you, "Don't say nothing to my child." In my day, the village raised us. If we did something wrong, the elders were there to correct us before we got home. I stopped counting after 20, then had to Deal with my mother when I got in. The respect that was instilled in us for our elders is everything.

My older sister ('Ria) has since passed away but she and I watched all the Good Times episodes. This brings back such bittersweet memories. RIP to John Amos an outstanding person and actor. Loved all the movies and television he was on. Never met him but I believe who he was offscreen came through the screen and you could tell he was a good dude.😢❤😢

Watching Good Times growing up was like watching my family portrayed on television. Florida was almost the spiting image of my mom. James was built like my dad. Jimmy was my older brother who grew up to become a DJ. My sister was Thelma, and that makes me Michael, the youngest. It was like watching us on television, just living in a different town with the same struggles. The characters of Florida and James are exactly what my parents were like. Great show. John Amos was my T.V. dad, and there wasn't much difference from my actual dad. Great Job representing us and countless other African American families. He is definitely a king.

The only comment you deserve is Job well done. We gotta be the same age because what you said is how I feel. These young cats today don’t have moral and values like we grew up with. Thank you for speaking up for the voiceless not only for John Amos but the countless others I heard you speak up for. He was a father figure for all of us back in the 70’s and beyond! Salute Godfrey and keep up the great work.

JJ Evans was the Steve Urkel of the 70's! His parents were supposed to be the main characters of the show, but "Mr. Dyn-omite!!!" stole their thunder. Even Janet Jackson's star power in her Penny role was secondary to Jimmie Walker's minstrelsy.
