Synopsis:
A ceiling exhaust fan in a bathroom minimizes humidity, improves air circulation, and provides an added sound barrier for privacy. Admittedly, there is a wide variety of exhaust fans including lighting, speakers, and even smart home virtual assistants these days, but in this video we’ll stick to the basics. Compared to most electrical installations, mounting a fan requires more attention to weight, ducting, and room size, but is electrically very similar. [] In Indianapolis, every ¾ or full bath is required to have an exhaust fan. ½ bathrooms are exempt only if they have 2 square feet of operable window. Check your local building code before catching yourself in a bind!

If you use a clamp make sure your vent flapper is still working properly. The clamp can tighten the platic or metal around the flapper and not allow it to open all the way.
Nice job. You still use the old connector, I gave up on them and now I use Wago when needed. stay safe guys

Best elect video I’ve seen! Just one minor observation: I pre twist the wires together and then twist on the connector.
good job and thanks for the detail. I just installed two retrofit fans using Broan products. Panasonic is great, but the motors easily come out of the broans, which is great. I really like wagu nuts to connect multistrand to single strand, and big zip-ties to secure the outer layer of insulated duct. The foil tape probably wanted to grab more metal. I probably would have backed off the inner layer of duct almost a full width of tape then secured the inner layer with three or four little pieces of foil tape, then put a second longer layer of foil around the full circumference. Maybe cover the full circumference with two pieces of tape overlapping. I like to secure the duct connection from above. Someone has to go up there anyway to run that duct out of the house? Depending on how the uninsulated attic space is vented, the exhaust might not need to go through the wall or roof. Thanks again, I really enjoy your videos

Around 5:40 you explain how any kinks in the exhaust duct would cause unnecessary stress to the motor, via fluid resistance, and to my understanding that is functionally the exact same physics principle at play as poor/weak electrical connections leading to higher resistance in circuits causing heat to build up.
All because the particles (be that fluid like air through a duct or liquid or air through a venturi or carburetor, or be that electrons/✌️current✌️) can't flow as easily.

19:30 Why not some kind of screw-down hose-clamp type connection? Managing that tape and successfully sealing it all the way around looks very difficult to ensure.
is it a problem if i’m not able to fit the grounding wires into the housing?
easy way to do foil tape is peel white backer halfway fold over the other half and slide it up over the hard to reach area then stick the end down where you can reach it and pull the end of white backing out as you rub it into place
You do know they make duct wire ties right? All commercial VAV boxes and duct work utilize ties! Watching you struggle I almost had a heart attack.
HVAC guy here. We use panduit straps, basically giant zip ties, to connect flex to collars. One on the inner, one on the outer, and tighten with a special tool for cinching them tight. One AHJ here requires mastic.

I once used zipties in similar situation
The ones designed for retrofit have a slick folding bracket, and it comes apart to make installation a breeze, just recently installed 3 Panasonic retrofits took out contractor junk from 1992 Broan...garbage...Retrofit version come with adapter for existing 3" or 4 " duct...goes in slick smooth and easy. And retrofit versions meant to fit 6" up rafter, nice and shallow, inverter control, silent and slow ramp up to full speed .3 SONE!!!

Last summer I decided to make my brake calipers and brackets look pretty on my car by spray painting them (with special high-heat tolerant paint made for brakes!!) and in the sanding/grinding process trying to shine them to prepare for the paint I got a bit careless and totally accidentally wound up catching my pants or shirt in the brass wire cup brush.
Didn't cause any problems except 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ and a learning experience.
So yup, +1 about how rotating tools will wrap you and anything loose that's attached to you right up!!

Panasonic is UL listed for close to shower as long as it's on GFCI
Are electricians supposed to install duct part?? Or do we recommend them to call an Havac company?
Absolutely up to you (as long as you have the skill), and I'd probably sell it as a differentiator in either case: "I can minimize your costs by fully completing the installation" or "We leave the HVAC work to the pros to make sure it's done right."
How I can became an electrician. Do you have any advice.
Look for job listings for a electricians apprentice, the smaller company the better, bigger companies will have you digging ditches and pulling wire for a year before you get to do any real electrical work. Once you become an apprentice your company will put you through classes because its a requirement to become a licensed electrician, depending on your state it can be up to 4 years of working and doing school to get your license, normally classes are 2-3 times a week and a couple hours long after work. As for advice on how to be a good electrician, always be curious, asking questions and observing the journey man, never let yourself get a ego and just do whats asked of you, and work on every house like its your grandmas and you'll be just fine

I am just a Canadian DIY guy. Install the insulated spiral dict to the fan properly, get a third hand and shove the duct through the opening and secure the fan in place last.👍👨🦳🇨🇦

I'm not sure if I'm missing something but watching 20 seconds starting from timecode ua-cam.com/video/j6vdYJ9NfgI/v-deo.html and it seems like the solid wire has punctured the plastic of the wire nut on the hot conductor. when you start twisting, the top of the wire nut looks flat, but when you finish, it looks like it's poked out of the top. I saw this happened to you in another video and you caught it, and redid the connection, but here it looks like you missed it. =(

I feel like those tan 3M wire nuts are more prone to the solid poking thru. I don’t like them.
I am an engineer and know that with centrifugal pumps the amp draw of a pump motor reduces as the input or output pipe size or valve opening to the pump is reduced. Wide open/large pipes cause the amps to increase because you are imparting energy to more pounds of water. I think that might apply here with pounds of air moving through the fan. If you restrict the flow, amps go down (motor stress reduced). Your comment about reduced duct size causing higher motor stress may not be correct. My humble opinion...
I think it depends on the type of electric motor, as ECM motors might try to compensate by increasing power to maintain an RPM.

Might I suggest you connect the duct before you install the fan ! I honestly don't understand why electricians do exhaust fan installs. It's maddening because electricians usually screw it up! I don't believe it's a common sense issue as most electricians have sense. However, what they usually don't have is a "give a crap attitude " when it comes to the ductwork. If I had a dime for every time I saw an exhaust fan installed incorrectly, I'd be a wealthy man! If I made the rules, I'd get HVAC contractors to install them ,especially the ductwork.

Seriously, the only benefit to the metallic take is its heat resistance. And why did you not use actual mounting hardware for the duct? Totally not a professional looking job in that department.

Always use foil tape, not duck tape, that is.
