A quick question if you don't mind?....(or two actually)....i have chosen my text, added the outline, but when i go to PATH and LINKED OFFSET...i o get the pointer, but with no node....not sure what i have done. My second question is, and this is where i mat have gone wrong.....can i add an outline, plus a shadow? Many thanks, you are a great tutor!
"It is the Edit Objects, Colors, Gradients, Arrowheads and other fill and other fill and stroke properties" The button is in the upper middle part of the Inkscape window. it is to the left of the Text and Fonts button. The Text and Fonts button should be a capitalized "T" and the Fill and Stroke button icon you are looking for will have half of a white square with a paintbrush though it. Let me know if you found it!
Select your text object, click Path->Combine, now click Path->Linked Offset. You should now get a scaling handle for the whole object. Not sure if Inkscape's text behaviour has changed since the author created this video, or if the author had somehow enabled auto-combine for text objects.
I'm trying to make two images but I want the corners to be sharp, not rounded. I can't seem to do the sharp corners with the Linked Offset way. Any suggestions?
Select the text you want to ungroup. Select Path>Stroke to Path. Then while the text still selected go to Path>Break Apart. This will allow you to select each letter independently. But, remember to select the font you want before you do this! You will not be able to change the font after you turn the text into a path
When you do this function inkscape will change to the edit paths by nodes tool. Look for a very small node that you can grab and drag to change the outline size

Just what I needed! So easy & Simple. Thank you!
Thank you so much for making this easy! All I could find before were confusing very complicated ways.
Great video! So clear and easy to follow!

LOVED your video! May I send you pick of a font I found in the wild that inspired me. Maybe you can tell me how the effects were produced?!
we would love to see what you found! Maybe i can help with replicating the style for you.
This was so helpful. Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Perfect tutorial; thank you!
Thank you, that was helpful
Please help.
Is there anyway to put a border on text that was created in the Lettering Extensions? I don’t know how to remove the lines it’s created
VERY very new to inkscape. I can't find the "fill & stroke" menu. Where do I find that?

Ctrl,Shift,F is the shortcut btw
I don't get that single node when selecting my text and clicking on "linked offset"
I don’t get the single node either to make the shadow. By chance did you figure it out
Select your text object, click Path->Combine, now click Path->Linked Offset.

make sure that the "join" selection under the "Stroke Style" tab in the Fill and Stroke menu is set to the sharp corners and not rounded or chamfered
How do you ungroup the first "text" you did ??

thanks, mate!
You're welcome!
Perfect
When I do this, it doesn't make an outline, it changes the entire text
Is This the same as we "create outlines" in adobe illustrator ???
it is, its just not 22 dollars a month
I'm having a hard time with the "linked offset" function. I can see a small line outside of my text but I can't increase the size of it .

@@MisFitStudios MINE NEVER GIVEZS ME A NODE
not sure what to type now
