Thank you for this! I sifted through a lot of (what I didn't realise were) electrician training videos before I found something I actually understood! haha
Brilliant! Glad it helped!
Excellent video. We just reno'd the kitchen and we need new light fixtures. Will bookmark and review this.
Thanks!
Thanks for your help. After years of looking for the clear, hot white bright LED, I have, with your help, found it! I found them in Walmart. One is GE the other is their members mark. I bought a box of each. One is the A21 the other A19. The only difference I found was the A21 is a bit larger. They both are clear 1600 lumens. Wow! what a difference. Will be replacing all our bath room bulbs. They both dimmed with my 10 year old dimmers. They cannot be told apart as to brightness. Very happy!!!!
Brilliant!💡
@@eleanorbell That is the word!
Thank you for your help
So pleased it was useful!
Thanks
Thank you for your really clear explanation, also really glad to see more women working on electricity and DIY!!!!
thank you!
You're welcome!
Great video. This is SO useful. Thanks so much Eleanor! One question - I have a LED dimmer switch with halogen bulbs, no bulbs gone yet but will it damage the dimmer? I really don’t like the light of LED and find it hard to find a warm enough light. Xx
@@eleanorbell About 8 candles at 28w - do you think it’ll be ok or should I change them? Xx
Which light bulbs in bathroom ceiling for make up application?
Consider the radiation pattern of "filament" vs first generation with a heatsink at the base. The first will have a dark spot below it, but the second might light only half of the lampshade. I believe that GU5.3 has to do less "work" inside the unit with the voltage already being stepped down by a reliable transformer. 1500 lumens seems to be an average between European and American voltages. Honestly rated LEDs on 230V are much brighter than incandescent.
What should be the combination for restrooms?
Hi there, we are in the middle of a kitchen renovation at the moment, with a large island with a built-in induction hob but also doubles up as our main eating area. what colour bulbs do you recommend in the 3 pendants over the island?
I’d probably go for 3000K. So it’s warm white and relaxing for eating but still white enough (and not too yellow) for cooking. For more info on colour temperature check out my video.

How do you tell if a lightbulb is a traditional old-school one or new one....cause I think the watts are different and I get confused when picking the right lightbulb for a customer. I'm a trainee btw.
Yes the main difference is the watts. LED bulbs are usually between 1-15W. Whereas incandescent bulbs are usually anything above 25W, with the exception of things like oven bulbs. If you’re still not sure, check the lumens. For example the lumens of a 10W incandescent oven bulb will be far lower than a 10W LED bulb.
What will it be like if you use a frosted bulb on crystal chandalears?
The lightbulbs themselves will be less glarey, but you won’t get such a twinkly effect from the crystal around the room. My personal preference would be to use clear bulbs.
Hello I have 2 questions. I bought a pendant fixture max 40w. May I know what LED bulb I need to buy? Other question is I bought a track 3spot light max 6w for kitchen may I know if I have to buy 3 6w GU10 or 3 2w GU10 bulbs?
Hi, for the pendant any LED bulb will be fine as none will be as much as 40W. 6W bulbs give a good decent bright light. For the track it will be 3 x 6W GU10 bulbs.
@@eleanorbell Thank you so much this was super confusing for me. I have 1 reading light wall lamp(IKEA RANARP) max 7w so what should be good ?
@@iparitoshbhatt I would choose a bulb with around 450 lumens (5-6W). But it is down to personal preference on how bright you want the light.
what looks like 75 watts?come onmetric imperial
Can I know what is the wattage for Led bulb of a 23watts compact Fluorescent light bulb daylight E27 cap bulb 💡
Lumens is a more reliable comparison as the wattage of the bulbs is reducing as the bulbs become more efficient. (See my video on watts vs lumens ua-cam.com/video/j1n1MEX8PFw/v-deo.html).
A 23 watt CFL bulb is around 1600 lumens. That will be about an 14-20W LED bulb today, but that will change with time.
Look at the lumens on your daylight E27 CFL bulb and then find the equivalent lumens on a daylight E27 LED bulb.
3:03 what?
How to choose the right bulb
quickly and easily.
Go into your garage, get in
your Time Machine, set it for
1988, now go to the store and
buy about 1,000 light bulbs of
different wattages, go back
'Home' and start enjoying what's left of your 'Today' kind of life."
I hope you picked up some fruits and vegetables while you were back in 88. It seems all of our new ideas about growing food have totally destroyed our
once fantastic produce!
"What's that crunch I just heard? and why are you crying?" You say you're crying
tears of joy over the fantastic
flavor of your 1988 apple?
Plus you're lightbulbs were so easy to shop for. Wasn't it a great trip? I know, I know, some things ARE better now.
I just miss being able to buy
a bulb without taking a class.
It gave us time for things like,
Loving our family, our home,
( Back when home was more than just an investment
to be flipped )
What a Great world we have
created, with our shiny new
open minds that tell us to
allow our kids to tell us to go F
ourselves, and then, give them
a time out....instead of them
loosing an eye!
Yeeeee Hawwwwww!!!!
I'm ready for all the, "What does all this have to do with buying lightbulbs?" I almost feel bad that you are soon going to be able to put things like this together.( Eventually you'll love it. But it'll be bumpy
at first.) You have been conditioned to ACT like you don't get it......and
that people like me are
knuckle scraping cave dwellers. You have no idea
how sorry people like me
are about all this. You're
probably better off learning
about lumins vs watts for a while yet....Or how about, how pencil erasers can save the rain forests if only used once a day------at most....
Have fun. Be careful. We'll
be friends someday.
Hey, watch your language!!!
You'll see, we will.
Spot on
There is no “choosing” the right light bulb. One simply doesn’t choose a correct bulb, the correct bulb chooses you. ☮️ ✌️
Just stick to halogen, led lighting is awful and damaging to the eyes. They also create a lot of electrical waste
