    I don't get why people complain that Cinderella was only interested in landing a prince. She was interested in having even just one night of being treated like an equal, of going to a ball with others and to be treated with respect. One night to wear something nice, to talk to people, to dance with someone or to watch others dance and not have to work. That's what she wanted. A night of being treated with respect and being happy. The fact that when she got her chance to do so she just happened to meet a man who just happened to be a prince and that they just happened to develop feelings for each other over their time together - well that's just a coincidence. And sometimes those sorts of things can happen, we meet someone and start to care about them.

    • @elizabethfeuerbach5006
      @elizabethfeuerbach5006 2 місяці тому +1

      I agree. I feel like people should do more research before making assumptions about everything. She didn't even mention the prince when asking to go to the ball. So, people saying she went to the ball only for the prince doesn't make any sense.

    Despite being a fairy tale, Cinderella feels so real with its portrayal of an abusive household and her moving on to escape from the abuse to live a much better life. There is something just so real about this story.

    One of the most heartbreaking scenes in Disney history is Cinderella's reaction to her mother's dress being ripped apart and she reaches her breaking point. For years she gave so much and worked hard for her stepfamily who would always take and demand more from her. Cinderella never asked anything from them. On that day, all she asked for, the ONE THING she asked for was ONE NIGHT to relax, dance and have fun, and they just give her false hope, only to cruelly tear it away from her. They wouldn't give her the one thing she asked for after all the years she spent of her life being a slave to them. It's painful to the audience because we see everything she does for them without complaining or taking a break. Seeing her work even harder in order for her to go to the ball, only for it to result in failure at the hands of her stepfamily is devastating.
    I tell you the silence where Cinderella is just looking at the tattered dress in heartbroken shock is deafening.

    • @BG-be8di
      @BG-be8di 11 місяців тому +18

      yes, it really is very heartbreaking and cruel to me how her stepsisters destroy the Cinderella's dress and insulting her, and then they leave with the stepmother as if nothing happened in absolute silence, really the Evil Stepmother is to hate her a lot, that is true abuse and I feel very sad for Cinderelly

    • @witchylizzy6024
      @witchylizzy6024 10 місяців тому +5

      You know, it occurs to me that Cinderella is very similar to Quasimodo in this sense. Both of them were forced shut-ins thanks to an abusive parental figure and told all their lives that they were worthless. Both of them only wanted to go out for one day/night of fun, something to hold on to even after they returned to their dreary daily lives. Neither of them went out looking for love, and yet found it anyway, furthering their desire to flee their awful home life to find something better. We call out Cinderella for having a passive main character, just waiting around for a man to come save her, but isn't that exactly what happened between Quasi and Esmerelda?
      Personally, I love Cinderella for the same reasons we all love Quasi. She might not have had the most agency in her story, but there's real strength in surviving abuse. She kept her head up high, refusing to allow despair to make her as bitter and cruel as her stepfamily. She kept on trucking, day after day, and being kind to the mice, whom she can relate to. And in the end, all the good karma she's earned over the years finally caught up with her. Everyone she cared for, everyone who she was kind to, everyone who knew she deserved better, joined in the fight.
      I could take or leave the prince. The real heart behind Cinderella is one of friendship and quiet survival.

    I have to say, I really admire how Cinderella is able to put up with so much abuse from Tremaine and her daughters that she doesn't lose the will of letting it destroy who she is as a person.
    However, I think the scene where the stepsisters destroy her dress while Tremaine remains all smug was the tipping point that almost broke her into becoming miserable. Until the Fairy Godmother helped her regain that hope! If not for her, Cinderella would’ve become miserable and lose her kind spirited nature.

    Oh, thanks for watching it, I haven't seen this movie for a long time, what I admire much about Cinderella is her kindness and her big golden heart, although her stepmother and stepsisters treated her cruelly making her work hard, she always dreamed of being happy again and having a family that would love her, besides her friends mice. I also love the lyrics of the song: "A dream is a wish makes your heart".. It was truly cruel to me how the stepmother encourages the stepsisters to destroy Cinderella's dress, and what made me feel sorry the most was her friends the mice had made an effort to make her dress and she was very grateful to them.. It also amazes me that the movie was created by Walt Disney himself, once I read he himself said Cinderella was his favorite princess, because the two resemble each other in that desire to want more in life, also that his favorite animation was the transformation of Cinderella's dress . You should also see the sequels soon, those are amazing too

    Cinderella is very significant (siginficative?) for me. Literally, my great-grandmother's life. She was the daughter of a wealthy spanish merchant, who was a widow and with 2 daughters. He moved to Mexico with his daughters and made a good business in a small town, and he remarried my great-great grandmother who was an indigenous woman. Unfortunately my great-grandmother's mother died during a little bit after she gave birth to a second baby, by the time she was around 5 or 6. Because her father travelled a lot, because being a merchant and there were no airplanes nor train at the time, he spent months away and in the meantime she became the servant of the household and was threatened by her step sisters, because she was a mixed race and had difficulty in speaking spanish, so her father never knew anything, and he died a few years later due to a plague. She was the servant of her own house for until she was 17 years old, when she met my great grandfather who stole her from her house and married her. He was not a prince, but he was a very nice husband and loved her dearly, and made her as happy as he could. Overall, we could say she lived her "happily-ever-after" ending. Unfortunately, the stigma of being a mixed race and having an indigenous language as a mother tongue lasted with her, and raised her children as mestizos and she never taught them her mother tongue or the traditions her own mother taught her. Though, my grandmother used to say she had the demeanor of a high class woman but she never went out without her rebozo or her silver earrings, she would say "she was naked" without them. People who knew her always said she was the kindest woman in town and always happy to help to anybody who needed it, so everyone in town loved her dearly and cried greatly when she died. So yeah, my great grandmother was a Cinderella.

    A lot of older fairy tales suggested that fae and fairy magic could only last a day, and would diminish or vanish when the next day began.
    Whether Midnight counted as AM back then, or midnight BECAME AM due to this trope, I'm not sure.
    Makes for a good story, though.
    But yes, fairy godmothers and midnight deadlines are most commonly believed to come from this story.

    23:55 That is generally what happens. But does usually take time. You have to look through all the eligible families, see who's available. Weigh up the pros and cons with making an alliance with that family - marriages in nobility were generally seen as an alliance, money wise or politically wise. You have to make sure you have enough to offer the family you've chosen, both families have to agree to the match before the engagement is official or has been announced.

    In the original fairy tale, the ball actually took place over the course of three nights. Cinderella attended each night, leaving at midnight to beat her family home (these types of parties lasted well into the night). On the third night, the prince - who had been desperate to keep her at the ball - covered the stair with pitch (a tarry substance) to prevent her from leaving. She ended up leaving her shoe in the mess, and avoided the rest of the pitch.
    Also, the original fairy tale was much darker; the father lived, and abused Cinderella along with his new wife and daughters. When trying on the slipper, one stepsister cut off her big toe to make it fit, and the other cut off a bit of her heel. When Cinderella married, her bird friends pecked out the sisters' eyes. The willow tree that Cinderella cried at, where her godmother appeared? That was actually the grave of Cinderella's mother.

    From personal experience, Anastasia, the stepsister with the red hair, gets quite the glow up in the sequels!
    What bugs me the most about Anastasia and Drizella ripping up Cinderellas dress is that not only is it her late mothers, but they said themselves that they didn't like the beads and sash on them, not her. Basically, they took back what they originally thought was trash because it was on Cinderella

    Fun fact: The actress Betty Lou Gerson who narrated the prologue of Cinderella later on played Cruella DeVil in The 101 Dalmatians from 1961 , Hellene Stanley was the Live Action reference for both Cinderella and Aurora, Eleanor Audley was the live action reference as well as the voices for both Lady Tremaine and Maleficent ( during Sleeping Beauty's production she was battling with tuberculosis ), Ilene Woods didn't even audition for the part of Cinderella,she was a singer that sung for the demos and Walt Casted her on the spot ... Cinderella's Film adaptions go back to the 1870's while the story itself dates back to 27 A.D with the Greek tale of Rhodopis.Walt was faaaaar from the first to adapt any of the popular tales ( Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty,Peter Pan etc .. ) in film ( or specially animation,There was a Betty Boop Cinderella short from 1935 . Walt Also made a Cinderella short all the way back in 1922 with his first studio Laughogram Studios ) , but it's proof that he was a storytelling Genius when you consider the fact that lots of Disney additions to those stories are seen by pop culture as being part of those stories.People are waaay more familiar with Disney's Version of Cinderella ( 1950 ) than they are with Perrault's tale ( 1697 );.Here's Perrault's Version of the tale,read it and you'll understand what I mean ... Enjoy: sites.pitt.edu/~dash/perrault06.html

    To answer some questions:
    The fairy godmother changed everything with magic except for the shoes. She created those. I don't remember if it is shown in the animation but it is in other versions. So that's the reason it doesn't turn back. Because there is nothing to turn back to.
    And why the shoe could only fit Cinderella is never explained in any movie I believe but I have heard that because the slipper is made of glass, it can be explained through ther. Glass has a significant personality. After a night of wearing glass slippers and sweating and things, the slippers practically got molded to her foot. So it would not fit any other foot. Because no foot is exactly like Cinderella's. At least that's what I heard lol

    • @DelGuy03
      @DelGuy03 28 днів тому

      The Disney live remake has a bit of narration that says that no matter the size of the foot, the slipper magically reshaped itself to not fit.
      In this animated version, the scene of the de-transformation shows Cinderella surprised to still have the slipper, and then she looks up (to the godmother) and says "Thank you." Which means thank you for the lovely experience, but I also take it to mean, thank you for making a special exception and leaving me the slipper to remember it all by.

    This may be the film version of Cinderella that most people think of, and it deserves its classic status. For an alternative live-action version, I would recommend "The Slipper and the Rose: The Story of Cinderella," a live-action musical film from the 1970s, with excellent songs by the Sherman brothers (who gave us Mary Poppins etc., though this movie isn't Disney) and top-quality actors. It tells the familiar story (filmed in beautiful European castles) but has some surprises as well.
