*Nick,* you have to know something. Cinderella did NOT know the prince was the prince. It shows how pure her intentions were, cause all she wanted to do was go to the ball for one night (but her real dream was to be free). And that's why before the clock strucks midnight she says "But I didn't even met the prince".
And THAT is why she lets the plates fall when her stepmother explains what the duke was doing there. Because she realizes that the prince is the prince!!
I just love her. Definitely my favourite princess
AND the shot with the GREEN EYES! So intelligent. Cool and scary at the same time.

In my opinion, Lady Tremaine is one of the scariest Disney villains because she feels so REAL. She is not a powerful witch or anything like that, she is a domestic abuser, using what little power she has over someone else to humiliate, belittle and torment them, and there are millions just like her in real life.

Tremaine (voiced wonderfully by actress Eleanor Audley who did Disney voices and sitcom guest roles and radio shows) can ruin Cinderella's hopes and plans without doing much ... except bringing to her stupid daughters' attention that the homemade dress is partially made from their sash and beads. That's all it takes to ignite the two girls into ripping the gown to tatters. It's the little things that Lady Tremaine does that cause damage-- and she knows it. Excellent villain whom we love to hate.

She didn't know she was dancing with the prince, nor did she care about being her looks. She ran because she didn't want to get caught by her stepmother and because she's a nice person, to honor her fairy godmother by not breaking her curfew. All she wanted to do was go to the ball and be part of the kingdom because that would give her some tiny bit of semblance of feeling like an actual person.

This was the film that put Disney back on top after their attempts to stay afloat in the 1940’s.
-The song Bibbity Bobbity Boo was nominated for Best Original Song,
-the woman who does the narration at the beginning is Betty Lou Gerson who in 1961 would be the voice of the villain Cruella De Vil in Disney’s 191 Dalmatians,
-the woman who voices Lady Tremaine Eleanor Audley would voice another classic villain Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty you can also hear her as the voice of Madame Leota in The Haunted Mansion ride,
-you brought up at the end hoping to see the fairy godmother more and I don’t think that would have worked as her whole purpose was just for that one scene to cheer Cinderella up and help her go to the ball, however they showed have developed the prince more,
-Walt Disney’s favorite bit of animation the studio ever did was the dress transformation in the film because the Cinderella rags to riches story was basically his life,
-the voice of the fairy godmother was a veteran Disney voice actress Verna Felton and you can hear her voice in the films:

Verna Felton often plays irritating or rude people. like the lead elephant in Dumbo who told everyone to ignore him when he walked up to them, and Aunt Sarah who treated poor Lady very unfairly, and I didn't like Flora either, because of the way she undermined Merryweather every time she tried to give an opinion on anything and kept colouring her pink. Hathi's wife wasn't so bad, and at least she was a villain in Alice In Wonderland so she was meant to be unlikable, and there she was super entertaining. She was fine as the Fairy Godmother.
Eleanor Audley made the dignified villainess trope. Both roles are diabolical and badass in a quiet way. The only difference is that Maleficent can go the other way and get over-the-top, but neither of them ever really lose that quality - she can just get away with it because of her magic.

She did most of the concept art for this film, and the backdrop artists (also mostly uncredited, unknown women) did their best to stick as closely as possible to her carefully thought out simplifications, her watercolor style, and the color schemes :)

another: she was the first princess to sing a duet with her love interest

She's just looking around at how beautiful everything is. it probably reminds her of when he father was alive. She doesn't notice the Prince at all until he comes to her. She wasn't looking to impress the Prince. She didn't care about that at all. In fact, when the spell is broken and she escapes, she confesses that she doesn't even realize he was the Prince. She wasn't social climbing like her sisters and all the other girls. She simply wanted a tiny taste of the life she used to know. My absolute favorite movie! I've seen it far more times than I can count by this point! I could go on with my never-ending love for it, but I'll be very very brief. Ilene Woods' vocal performance of Cinderella is simply wonderful and her singing voice is timeless. She beat out over 300 girls vying for the role and this is only her second and final movie, but what a legacy! Sadly on my birthday in 2010, July 1, she passed away of Alzheimer's disease, not knowing she was the voice of Cinderella. But to keep her happy, nurses would play A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes.
Ilene Woods also stated in an interview years later that Cinderella's didn't want to go to the ball to marry the prince, but to have a good time. Just for even a few hours, Cinderella could be happy, with her meeting the Prince, who she didn't recognize, being an added bonus.

"Cinderella" is my favorite out of first three Disney-movies (Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and this), so I was glad to see you react to this. Characters like Mulan, Elsa, Meg and Moana are really looked up to these days, and I love them as well, but I disagree with how people often say that the "first" Disney-princesses are weak and only chasing after princes and expecting them to save them. That is not true, Cinderella, Snow and Aurora are really strong in their own ways as well and they have a lot of qualities to look up to. Cinderella was never looking for meeting the prince, all she wanted was time for herself and new experiences for one night. She also has a very good and actually very sarcastic sense of humor. "Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes" and "Sing Sweet Nightingale" have the special place in my heart after all these years. Lady Tremaine is really scary villain, since she doesn't have magical powers, but there are many people like her in the real world (like Frollo and Mother Gothel, for example).

I mention a while back that I suggest some of the disney sequels for future reactions, one of them was Cinderella 3. I didn't mention the second film, because is considerate one of the weakest and look like three episodes of a tv show that never happend (which is probably true). But If you do watch both of them or just 3, I think you gonna like it.

I still believe the stepmother killed Cinderella’s father

      From disney.fandom.com/wiki/Cinderella%27s_Father :
"Considering his death was untimely and happened suddenly, along with Lady Tremaine's power-hungry, cruel, and manipulative nature, it is possible Cinderella's father was actually murdered by Lady Tremaine; however, nothing in the film suggests this and it is taken as canon that he died a natural death, possibly because of a disease, or he got killed in an accident.
The possibility of Lady Tremaine's possible involvement on his death, however, is possibly backed up in Cinderella III: A Twist in Time, because when Anastasia realizes what is love, Lady Tremaine dismisses her discovery by saying that love isn't necessary when they could have power, possibly meaning that she just married Cinderella's father for his power and wealth and killed him once he outlived his usefulness.
Despite this, at least in the 2015 live-action remake, it's stated that Cinderella's father didn't die due to Lady Tremaine's fault and rather contracted an illness and passed away. Even Lady Tremaine laments his death in that version of the story, as the film shows that she actually loved him at least a bit after her first husband's death. However this doesn’t seem likely since she was seen smiling at his death.
Cinderella's father bears similarity to Snow White's in the storybooks: both are widowers who were hit hard by the loss of their wives and remarry out of a desire for family stability; however, both fail to realize (for reasons beyond their power) that their choices put their daughters at a disadvantage.
The full name of Cinderella's father is unknown.
There is a deleted scene from the 2015 live-action remake, where after his death, Lady Tremaine sells all of his possessions to a merchant, including a paper butterfly toy he gave to Ella as a gift when she was a child, and Ella rushed to retrieve it, even offering to buy it back from the merchant, but he allows her to keep it for free."
      🙂

Loved your sweet first reaction to this classic animated film! I would LOVE to see you react to the musical version from 1997 starring Brandy and Whitney Houston. I think you'd like it even more!

I have only watched this film once, as a child, but I have watched the scene where the mice and birds help Cinderella with her dress about 40 times, because it's in the Disney cavalcade they show every Christmas in Sweden.

Eleanor Audley who voices Lady Tremaine (the stepmother) was also the voice of Maleficent in “Sleeping Beauty”.

About that fitting the glass slippers,
It was darker in the original story,
They cut their toes to make it fit.
God i love how Disney changed Directions of this ❤️
    What a Magical Classic.

Times like this I really don't care whether or not love at first sight is realistic, I'm watching a movie not a documentary, anything can happen in the world of fiction. And the drawings in the 'So this is love' scene are too beautiful to make me doubt.

One Easter in the late 1970s, my mom bought me the vinyl record of this story with all the songs.
There was an illustrated storybook on the front cover, and I listened to this story - including sound clips from the movie like Jacque & Gus vs Lucifer - and sang along with all the songs hundreds of times over the years.
It's still so sentimental a favorite that I purchased the digital soundtrack even when my kids were too old to appreciate it. Just for me!

There's just something really pretty about music and choirs stuff from the 50s. It's just really beautiful and I always love it.
I can't wait to see if you do go to see the other Cinderlla films (mainly Cinderella 3). Since you did hope you see the the mice in the other films. Either way take your time getting around to them, but I feel you may really enjoy Cinderella 3 (it's a big favorite of mine of the Disney Sequels).

You know, if you love the magic from the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, you're gonna love the magic that Merlin does in The Sword in the Stone, made in 1963 by Disney. There's a whole lot more magic. Great stuff. Much better than this.

Honestly the amount of cinderella stories and media I've consumed this is actually one of the ones I've not seen much. Its very Disney-fied for sure ><
If you've not seen it yet I very much recommend Sleeping Beauty, its one of the defining disney movies :)
Perhaps maybe not read up on some of the darker versions of the story though >< they can get very dark and goreful

This brought so many childhood memories! If you get a chance, you should also watch the live action Cinderella that came out in 2015. A lot more is added to the story and the prince has a lot more personality.

For me the prince symbolizes her escape and hope from her cruel life rather than an actual character so it makes sense why he has little screen time. After all, it’s not about romance but rather hope.
