i've really only tried the Ring brand and have their doorbell and 2 other cameras. I like that their app is really easy to use. I haven't bought any new Ring products in about 3 years and am disappointed that there hasn't been much new with their line since my last purchase. Wondering what other brand rivals or beats Ring with their variety of products and user-friendly software that offers more updated tech.

It's just getting embarrassing for Ring. It's just the same camera with a new design and higher price tag. At a minimum their cameras should be recording in 2k. It's almost impossible to identify someone on a Ring camera.

I dont think its super reasonable storage space wise to always record 2k. It would probably be a lot on their servers to keep that kinda footage esp with the amount of customers they have. same reason why gas station footage is so blurry as well. understandable tho as a home owner you want high res

Your making the right choice! Now I have installed both Ring and Blink cameras. Both are easy to set up but Blink cameras in my opinion are absolutele garage. If people think Ring’s 1080p video quality is bad Blinks is way worse. Also you need to replace the AAA batteries every couple of months. At least Ring has a quick release battery pack for their cameras. The Two-Way Audio is also horrible, super noisy for some reason. I’m glad you’re switching to Ring since it’s 10 times better than Blink.

Ring used to have a decent system and reasonable pay structure. The grandfathered $100/yr alarm subscription provides significant value and discounts for both alarms (cellular backup is critical) and cameras. The ecosystem connects with each other well within Alexa and ring apps. However, if they keep such old specs, people will start to move to other brand for cameras.
Alarm subscription grandfathered rate will stop from 2025 so 2024 is the last cheaper year. After that, 200/yr is still inches ahead some competitors but really isn't as charming if you don't use other parts of Ring ecosystem. Some people enjoying more automation may simply switch to abode for just a tiny bit more. Some less serious people who can live without cellular backup may simply use wyze or eufy at half of the price. Once the ecosystem start to break apart it won't be too far from falling.
Ring is a perfect example of some company milking all the previous brand values. Activision-Blizzard is another.

I had Ring cameras all over my house until last week. One of my stick up cams thought a cat was a person every night and another thought the shadows dancing on my driveway in the afternoon was a person and spammed notifications every few minutes. I also had issues with the live view on a few of the battery cams (with solar) even though they had a really strong signal where I placed them and no wifi interference.

As a Ring user I feel like Ring is really behind in terms of resolution technology and they just announced the Battery Doorbell Pro which barely has any upgrades. I feel like the steps required by Ring are:
    1) Upgrade all cameras and doorbells in their lineup to 2K or 4K. (I'm fine with 2K because most 4K cameras use high compression)
    2) Reintroduce Ring Protect Pro as an option only available if you have the Ring Alarm Pro
    3) Bring professional monitoring back to the Plus subscription
    4) Allow local 24/7 recording with Ring Edge and make it a free feature.
    5) I've heard app access for self monitoring Ring is now pay walled, if that is true, remove the pay wall.

I am not a fan of the ring floodlight cameras or the other one with a light. For some reason when I got the one with the light I wasn’t impressed with the footage. It looked too grainy and for some reason it wasn’t connecting well with my wifi. It would have video lag too. The stick up cameras have been the way to go for me. I have 20 of them and counting. I heard you say this pro is “replacing” the regular stick up camera????Noooooo!!!!!! I hope not! The footage looks A lot better on my stick up cameras. I know a lot of you people complain about them being 1080 p this n that blah blah. It’s fine. From my experience with the 2k or 4K cameras you need a really good internet and wifi routers. They use more bandwidth or whatever they call it. Also those cameras are more expensive and their plans are too. I think ring just wants to cater to the “budget friendly” crowd. Otherwise I can see them raising the prices of the plans if they start having 4K cameras. In that case please just stick with 1080p, ring! If you wanna see license plates from vehicles parked in front of your house I suggest you put a camera closer to the front street like on a tree or something. I have trees near the street and I can see license plates if they park in front of my house. Burglars have to park their cars right? Lol. Everyone on the ring community who post videos of this happening always have their cameras mounted on their house and all you get is grainy footage of the vehicle that stole from their house. The one thing I hate about these cameras is how difficult it is to remove the battery. I need to do it quick before people see me. I don’t want them to know I have them out in front. Which is why another reason I don’t care for cameras having lights. This pro camera you reviewed now I’m not impressed. I’m sticking with the regular stick up cameras and if it’s true they will faze them out for this I better buy more this Black Friday when they are $59.99. They also work great when you plug them into power. You have more recording time and the motion zone covers more area. When you use battery only they restrict your motion zone. I never been able to figure out if that can be changed? I’m just gonna put a ring stick up cameras in every spot possible around my property eventually.

Hate to be 'that guy' but it's one of those cases where if a company is letting you have cloud access, or timeline etc features at no cost, the 'cost' is elsewhere; in this case where they lied about their everything being locally stored but push notification thumbnails actually get stored in the cloud (unencrypted for anyone to see)

@@chibbyylol You're correct by then. Now they 'claimed' to have fixed a long time ago. Also the thumbnail can be turned off. The emphasis on 'claimed' is because, in almost any company, when PR says something is fixed, typically a prioritized subset are actually fixed. Literally any tech product will have lingering problems here and there but just harder to encounter/attack. At this time it's a personal take whether to bite the bullet for some products, or even say goodbye to tech and live in the woods completely. This also applies to other engineering too, such as planes and cars (more regulated though, but EVs are a different story).

The reason Ring will not use 2K or 4k is they depend on outdated battery technology. They also keep the cost down by not buying better Sony senors. They did test better camera resolution in 2019 before the pandemic. It never made it past R&D. Ring has been slipping with all the other competition out there. Let's hope 2024 they improve things. If they do not, market share will slip.

And the award for the least innovative brand goes to.....well thats probably blink. Then Ring Lol but their owned by the same company so im not sure what in the world Amazon is doing over there. I think reolink and Eufy are crushing them . Even amcrest. I've got a couple of their new 4k cameras i need to setup and mess with. Even TPLink has released some new tapo 2k camera. But ring.....ring is like "1080p for the win!" 😆

What a terrible upgrade from ring. Think I'll stick with the original stick up cams.

No better than the cheap knock off dashcam for 20 dollars. Just this is from a main brand. Shameful junk.
