    Remember everyone who are transferring. I got in with a 3.54 gpa and just a part time job. These stats are not amazing at all but I still got in! Its MUCH more competitive as a high school applicant. When applying see where you stand. If you are anywhere near these ladies, then for sure apply. If not, then consider going to a CCC for a year or two--I went for a year and a half--and transferring! Good luck everyone!

      @pyybobble2420 this guy looks a little older, so it was probably not as competitive back in the day. Also u will have a higher chance of getting in if u transfer from a csu ro smth.

    Hi! I’m applying to UCLA as an out of state student, im extremely nervous and im having slight doubts with my weighted gpa being a 3.6 rounded and retaking my SAT scores >< Im also apply to other UC campuses but UCLA is def in my top dream school! Do you guys enjoy it so far since it has been a year from this video? Was psychology a good major to study at UCLA? That’s what im planning to go for as well! Thank you!

      Hi! I am so glad you are interested in attending UCLA! I love the psychology program here, let me know if you would like me to do a video on the department, related minors, research opportunities, etc.!

    Wait with only 3 APs, how did you get a 4.5 weighted? Sheesh 😳Can you go over your course load?

    • @marleyadler
      @marleyadler  2 роки тому +2

      So I only took 3 AP tests but I took additional AP courses as well as honors courses each year. I can definitely do a video on my course load throughout high school but hope that clears things up a bit in the meantime!

    I am a fall 2023 freshman applicant to the UCs. I didn't have a "very good" GPA or ECs but I put a lot of effort into my essays. I had a 4.19 weighted GPA and took only two AP classes (English lang and English lit currently) but let's not talk about the exam... However I took several honors classes. I was in choir and I did mention that I got into a high-performing choir. It is selective and only the best applicants in the state region could get in. The awards I mentioned weren't all that impressive in my opinion as it's only among people that are blind (like I am!) I am a braille user and I scored among the top 50 in a braille literacy contest nationally. My essays were very focused on my passionate feelings and how I plan on using the new things I learned. I am majoring in psychology but also have a strong passion about music. Since music conveys feelings in a very unique way, I want to tie in what I know about music with my studies in psychology. Since my EC was teaching blind youth at a non-profit music school, I am basically studying music outside of school. I may not have pages upon pages of ECs and awards, but it's so interesting hearing all about you and of your takes on UCLA application. Personally, I feel extremely challenged about where I should commit to after I got admission to my top 2 dream UC schools.
    Ah, the presidential award... I have this really hilarious memory where I received it in 6th grade and when my mom told my grandma, she acted like she was really really proud of me. I asked my mom why she was so happy for me and she simply said "Meh, it's not a big deal." I received it again in junior high too but it was forgettable enough not to put on my college applications 😂.

    This was a great video, probably one of the best UCLA-related ones I've seen, and when an opportunity to share it with others occurs, I will. One of things I enjoy is seeing UCLA students pick the right major, even if the university, especially, claims that major is not as important. There's some truth to what UCLA states because as preprofessional as the school is, major becomes less important for various fields even if related to, e.g., premedical studies, because if one does the pre-health/med curriculum, he/she could major in Music or Art History or whatever. (Sorry for the use of the binary gender terms, but I guess I could have included _they_ .)
    With the above in mind, let's go over each of your majors. I believe each of your names from left to right are Jasmine, Marley, and Olivia, and your respective majors at this time are Pre-Applied Math, though you J are thinking of switching to Statistics; Psychology for you M; and Business Economics, though you O might switch to Public Affairs or double, if I remember correctly with Sociology as another option.
    I believe that you Jasmine could major in both Statistics and Applied Math because of your large amount of AP credits, and because the former is a fairly short major. I believe that Stats has about nine courses in upper division that are the keys to its degree-granting; I think they are the 100-102 A-C sequences. You could probably even add the Specialization in Computing courses, with which there are some classes in Stats that will have programming with one or two within the PIC courses which are required for the major.
    Marley, with respect to majoring in Psych, there are numerous of these majors on campus, and unfortunately, most of these are females -- if I may again use the binary term. But Psych is probably a good premed major as well as a good prelaw. But I believe that it lacks a lot of quant-based perusal, so I think that Cognitive Science is a better major, because the Specialization in Computing courses effectively attach to Cog Science, and some with this major are getting software jobs. For Psych majors who seek eventual employment within its realm, there's a lot of education needed, and as one goes for an advanced degree in the field, there's a lot of unpaid internships needed to become certified within it, and not a lot of grants are given to those who are in its MA/MS and PhD programs, unless one is really top-tier. So a lot of these advanced students are left to scratch out a living; there's _a lot_ of dues to be paid. But with respect to being a doctor as an example of paying her/his dues, the benefit of eventual salary offsets its early cost, but there's no windfall of income with Psych.
    As for you Olivia, I'm not sure where Public Affairs or Sociology comes into your thought in possibly switching from Business Economics. They are completely unrelated fields. Soc is probably the least rigorous major on campus, and some major in it as a gpa preservative, with law in mind. Those who transfer into UCLA who major in Soc have things like pre-dent, pre-law and even some with pre-med in mind -- they are very accomplished. There's not a lot quant based perusal in it, though UCLA has just started offering a Social Data Science minor for Social Science majors like Soc, which might be a nice addition those who major in it.
    Some say Bus Econ is too accounting heavy, but accounting is important for things like Finance to be able to read financial statements -- think of Warren Buffet. And UCLA's Econ side does offer a Value Investing program -- take a look at the 106 courses. A lot of UCLA students are majoring in Bus Econ and minoring in Stats, and adding the computer specialization, which is a very good combination. But if you're more into the qualitative side of things like marketing, then Communications might be good, or any major really, just as long as you are internship intensive.
    All the best to all of you!
