What in world is he talking about 36 Honors/AP classes for 10-12 grade? Even if that's by semester that means 6 honors/AP every semester for 6 semesters - virtually impossible. Most CA schools don't even allow you to take that many if they are even available.
If the information is available, UCLA may use it to compare you with your peers, but since your school does not offer that information, class rank will not be used in evaluating your application. Good luck!
I go to a massive school where nearly every AP is offered. I took 1 this year (AP gov where I will probably finish with an A-). I’m taking three next year (APUSH, English, and German) and plan to take 4 senior year. I’m a straight A student who only participates in a couple extracarriculars. Do you think I have a good shot at getting in or should I take more AP classes and extracurriculars?
If you can take more while maintaining good grades, push yourself to that next level! It'll be challenging and difficult but very much worth the effort!
so this is going to be kinda long haha but i moved from a different country back to the US the summer before my sophomore year.. not to mention my freshman year school was academically challenging and it was virtual, I ended up with 4 b’s. my sophomore year was difficult bc of moving.. i took all ap and honors but ended up getting 4 b’s. junior year i intend on getting all a’s and that will mean my combined 10th and 11th grade gpa (since ucla uses only these grades to calculate gpa) will be around a 4.3, which is not in the 75th percentile but i would say it’s a good gpa. also honors classes at my school do not carry any extra weight for your gpa. i have some extracurriculars and am in the process of pursuing more that i’m passionate about over the course of the next 2 years. sorry for the rant but any advice for an out of state student that’s a rising junior and who’s dream school has been ucla for years? 😁😁
I am super nervous since UCLA is my dream school and I have been wanting to go there for years. My GPA is solid at 3.8 but not many AP's since my school doesn't offer many of them, my SAT scores are 1450+, and I am out of state. What more can I do to increase my chances of attending UCLA. What tips do you have specifically in extracurricular and overall to improve my chances? I am currently a junior in HS. How do I show them I am worthy given the current circumstance we are in? I am super stressed out because I really want to go to UCLA.
I have a question about my stats. After junior year I will have a 3.83 uw and a 4.61 weighted gpa. Both are 10-11 gpas. I'm at the top 25% for weighted but not for uw. Also for honors course I would have take 38by the end of senior year(17 AP's and some honors), this is the most rigorous course load at my school. How would this be looked at for my unweighted being low and my weighted being high. I'm top 5% in a class of 500 from a competitive school that sent around 25 kids to ucla and UC Berkeley this year.
It sounds like you are on the right track academically. Remember show leadership in your extracurriculars! If you have some free time due to COVID-19 right now, feel free to get started on the personal statements/essays.
My stats: -5.0 weighted GPA, 4.0 Unweight GPA, 1220 SAT (but am hoping to retake if COVID allows),my act got canceled (trying to schedule another one), have taken only honors and AP classes since my freshman year, Never gotten below a 90, I am in colorguard, HOSA, NHS, Book club, theater, debate, and a Certified Nurse Aide Program, am currently valedictorian of my class with a size 519, and I spent two years in a leadership position of squad leader and one as media team. I’m an out of state student And have already started the personal insight questions. How good of a chance do I have to get in?
Hi! I'm currently a junior in hs and I'm dual enrolled - so I will complete an Associates in Liberal Arts and also an Associates in Biology. These don't bump my grade like AP, and I'm not taking any courses at high school. Would UCLA view this as positive? I am also involved in swim/waterpolo/track, and am founder & president at one club at my hs and one at community College. Ucla is my dream, so any feedback or insight would be rlh helpful!
I’m a year ahead in math. Grade level is algebra, I took algebra last year and am now taking geometry. It’s not geometry honors, but does it still count as an advanced class?
You will only get an extra +1 gpa point for certain honors/AP/IB classes. Since this is not an honors class, you won't get that extra GPA point. Good job challenging yourself though and being a year ahead in math!
I have a 3.8 UW gpa (partly because I only had a 3.71 freshman year) took 10 APs and got a 1530 on the SAT. Are my stats avg, above avg, or below avg compared to other applicants?
Your UC GPA is calculated with your 10th to 11th year grades. So your 3.71 freshman year GPA will not be used in the UC GPA calculation. Keep up the good work!
@@KevinWeiTV I read that 97% percent of the students admitted were top 10% in their class at their school. Im concerned because my uc gpa is higher than what u said in the video but im not top ten percent. Im like top 15%

Yep it's gonna be hard! You don't have to get straight A's but try your best.
I am in middle school and it is my DREAM SCHOOL
Its crazy hearing people have a dream school when you were never there yet like.....wish I felt that way about something I'm not sure about let alone what even want to do in life just hearing you need at least 36 honor classes is crazy my highschool only had like 5 like where does one even start if it's been 5 years since any type of schooling
Not sure why I’m watching this since I was already admitted 😅
congrats, that's exciting! you're going to love it at ucla (after this epidemic situation is sorted out)
@@KevinWeiTV just tell your past self not to get his hopes up
what was your sat score
I did well freshman year but fucked up sophomore year
quarantine smh
Hi I’m in 8th grade I want to go to the nba and ucla is my dream I’ll keep you guys updated every year
good luck!
WAit but thw thing is...i messed up on my 10th grade, I failed Chemistry but me and my family did have a family emergency and death at the time which took a toll on me
Put that shit in your essay, make it inspirational and you should me fine
What in world is he talking about 36 Honors/AP classes for 10-12 grade? Even if that's by semester that means 6 honors/AP every semester for 6 semesters - virtually impossible. Most CA schools don't even allow you to take that many if they are even available.
Can you do a video on how to get into UCLA Grad school?
Is class rank required in the application? My school just canceled class rank recently.
It'll be challenging and difficult but very much worth the effort!
so this is going to be kinda long haha but i moved from a different country back to the US the summer before my sophomore year.. not to mention my freshman year school was academically challenging and it was virtual, I ended up with 4 b’s. my sophomore year was difficult bc of moving.. i took all ap and honors but ended up getting 4 b’s. junior year i intend on getting all a’s and that will mean my combined 10th and 11th grade gpa (since ucla uses only these grades to calculate gpa) will be around a 4.3, which is not in the 75th percentile but i would say it’s a good gpa. also honors classes at my school do not carry any extra weight for your gpa.
i have some extracurriculars and am in the process of pursuing more that i’m passionate about over the course of the next 2 years.
sorry for the rant but
any advice for an out of state student that’s a rising junior and who’s dream school has been ucla for years? 😁😁
You said they see 10th and 11th. In that case I scored a 75% in 10th. Is there any chance they'll accept that?
I am super nervous since UCLA is my dream school and I have been wanting to go there for years. My GPA is solid at 3.8 but not many AP's since my school doesn't offer many of them, my SAT scores are 1450+, and I am out of state. What more can I do to increase my chances of attending UCLA. What tips do you have specifically in extracurricular and overall to improve my chances? I am currently a junior in HS. How do I show them I am worthy given the current circumstance we are in? I am super stressed out because I really want to go to UCLA.
extracurriculars and internships/volunteer work are great for the application
I had a 2.1 gpa with no extracurricular activities and got in
Really?
I’m fucked then, I have shit grades in my 9th, 10th, 11th, I’m now going into 12th. Lovely
Hey, Do you think that being an eagle scout could help in a college application?
Imma junior and im only in 1 AP class(english), could i still get a 4.6 GPA with one AP class?
No u need at least 5 with As
No.
My stats:
-5.0 weighted GPA, 4.0 Unweight GPA, 1220 SAT (but am hoping to retake if COVID allows),my act got canceled (trying to schedule another one), have taken only honors and AP classes since my freshman year, Never gotten below a 90, I am in colorguard, HOSA, NHS, Book club, theater, debate, and a Certified Nurse Aide Program, am currently valedictorian of my class with a size 519, and I spent two years in a leadership position of squad leader and one as media team. I’m an out of state student And have already started the personal insight questions. How good of a chance do I have to get in?
10/10
did u get in
Im an immigrate and i really want to go to college there! Is it impossible for me to go there since im an immigrate or do I still have a chance?
I’m a senior and in a similar boat, how did it turn out??
@graceofspades48 LOLL I'm actually at uc berkeley now!! go bearss
@@alishakalley9203 oh cool! Thankss
Oh thank god you said tenth and eleventh cause my freshman year is nothing special
also in highschool if you don’t take AP classes will you probably not get in
I'm sure every year, some high schoolers get into UCLA without taking AP classes. But, for the most part, those who got in took honors/AP classes.
KevinWeiTV what if you study in australia and ap classes don’t exist 😭
KevinWeiTV i am also an american citizen i’m on an international visa for studying so i think i count as an out of state applicant??????
Hi if I get C/D in my A levels and get good score in sats like 1200/1400 will they select me?
Im so nervous, for now i really want to get into Ucla but im barely going to be in middle school still im so anxios about getting in
take challenging classes and study, but also enjoy middle and high school! it's awesome that you already have a goal. you'll do great!!
4.6 to 4.8 HOLY CRAP
im taking 9 bruh how many do i need for a 4.6 LOL
what is you did bad in 10th but good in 12th
Well I am in incoming 10 grade and I only got honors Spanish and I almost got into ap history and I am worried
Klk L am in 10th grade also taking Spanish honors and Ap world :)....
Caroline twinssssss
Klk L omg yessss!
You should have 4.3 or what u said in High school or u should make it in UCLA????...........
So for freshman year it doesn't really matter?
I’m a year ahead in math. Grade level is algebra, I took algebra last year and am now taking geometry. It’s not geometry honors, but does it still count as an advanced class?
You will only get an extra +1 gpa point for certain honors/AP/IB classes. Since this is not an honors class, you won't get that extra GPA point. Good job challenging yourself though and being a year ahead in math!
What are some tips for out of state students? And is it possible to get scholarships as out of state
Hello im from Bangladesh and Im in 10th grade ...can u please say if I can get an admission with 100% scholarship after two Years
I have a 3.8 UW gpa (partly because I only had a 3.71 freshman year) took 10 APs and got a 1530 on the SAT.
@@rithikreddy1975 Your GPA and class rank is only one part of your application. It may be difficult to raise your class rank any higher. Your SAT score is great. Have you just finished your junior year?
If so, I would recommend you to work on your essay (personal statement). A few tips for the essay are in the video. Feel free to reach out to me directly if you need additional help. My email is on CollegeKevin.com
@@rithikreddy1975 did you end up getting in
watching this after completly fucking failing 10th grade first semester :p
Sir currently I am working at India's largest bank and pursuing my masters in economics, I am pretty much interested in taking admission at UCLA in order to pursue my Ms in finance, can you plz guide me on how can I make sure that I get into UCLA ?? what kind of academic profile they are looking for ??
how can you have 36 honors classes?? from freshmen to senior year
because 7x4 is 28?? there’s no possible way??
See 3:24
Honors Courses included in the totals are taken in grades 10-12, and are counted by semester, which means a year-long high school honors course would count as two. A single-semester course would count as one.
So if all your classes are year long, then just multiply that number by 2. Hope this helps!
@@KevinWeiTV oh okay! thank you so much :)
I got in with a 2.9
how?? :0
Wait what how
with money?!?
Opinions?!?!?!
I got all A’s freshmen year but they were prep classes. Then I started taking honors classes and wasn’t used to it. So I got a C+ I’m english and a B+ in math the first semester of sophomore year. I got all A’s second semester tho. Now I’m a junior taking 2 AP’s and 3 honors and getting all A’s but I’m so worried. Senior year I’m taking 3 AP’s and honors. I’m hoping it’ll seem like I’m improving. From going from prep, to honors with eh grades, to all A’s in honors, and then to all A’s in AP’s and honors. Can I hear people’s opinions please
i have a 36 act and a 4.45 gpa but i have like barely any extracurriculars at all........ yikes
I'm an international student who apply to go to UCLA this year. Hello, from Cambodia. I only have SAT and IELT scores along with some extra curriculums like student government club, debate club and my internship in a non-profit organization are they enough?
Sounds like you're on the right track! Try to get into leadership positions in your extracurriculars if possible.
KevinWeiTV thank you, yeah I'm trying hope I'll get it 👍
I kinda messed up my 10th year and I'll be going to 11th next year, what do i do?
Rogue toxin just try your best to get the A in AP classes, it will bring you Gpa up,
@@caseyhagedorn7960 thanks I'll bring my best, and even if it doesn't work out I'll try community college
I found out that you need a 3.9 GPA in junior college to get in. I wouldn't stand a chance.
It does get more and more competitive each year
What about if you live In Australia
CLASS OF 2025!!!!!!!!!lesgoooo bruins!!
as a senior i ahve no clue why im watching this
and its 5 years old 😭
can you do a video about worldwide applicants?
is being class president or on stifle counsel hood on an application?
Being a member of the student council or class president is good, especially if you demonstrate leadership in your role :)
i have a 4.6 weighted GPA and i got a 31 on the ACT, i'm in a ton of clubs/extracirriculars but im not too involved in any specific one, i kind of just participate in them, do u think i should focus more on improving my uniqueness in extracirriculars? also should i take the SAT
aim to be a leader in some of those ec’s i heard it really helps! all nine UC schools are test optional in 2021 i think but definitely 2022, 2023 and 2024 are test blind :)
