One of the reasons a lot of the amp models seem overdriven by default is that the default compressor model output is fairly hot. If you're finding you have to back off more than you'd expect on the amp drive, check the stuff before it in the signal chain, just like in a real world situation.
@@MrMann-gt1eh You can run 4 separate channels through it simultaneously. Running a guitar through one signal chain and a bass guitar through another is simple. I have used my Helix for the past year or so both with bass and guitar for live pub gigs, Church, recording and everything in between. They sound good. Period. I saw that both XLRs were plugged in and got excited to hear some cool stereo bass effects! Very disappointed that you didn't have a reason to plug in the right channel.
Was very surprised Lee didn't know about acoustic amps...but then I remembered the current acoustic line is completely different than the original line of amps. I think the new line is basically guitar center/musicians friend only..and more budget friendly.
Great demo guys! It's a pity the Helix can't really handle the levels of an active bass though.. even with the -10db input Pad on you can still manage to get it to clip (depending on your bass of course)
I would like to see a head to head comparison between a Line6 Helix, and Line6 POD HD500X, just to see if the extra $1000 for the Helix is justified. 🎵🎸
for bass, the HX Stomp ($600 USD) is a compact rig opton with same amps/effects as the flagship Helix and parallel routing for blending wet and dry signals
It's kind of an expensive solution for bass, since most bassists will only use a fraction of the features. That said, if you really use it a lot, and need the versatility in the studio and onstage, it seems like it can do it all.
I have been searching for this to see if a bass can plug into The Multi Effects pedalboards like Line6 Helix, pod Go and other similar kinds of these types of MultiFX pedalboard depending on brand. With fancy stuff and solo, we need effects for Bass to make it much more fancy stuff.
The *general* rule these days is if it’s digital it can do both bass and guitar, if it’s analogue mods may be required to avoid cutting the bass frequencies. Through the 80’s and 90’s we did have seperate bass multi effects even though they were digital and that was mostly because they didn’t have the memory/storage/software suites, etc required for storing lots of sounds and patches. I’ve always suspected that things like the ME50 and ME50b were barely any different inside. But yeah, for the last few years, and probably going forward, digital effects will be a one for all. The one gotcha is that because the guitar market is so much bigger they may release with guitar effects and have bass specific things like amp/cab emulation added later, best example being the GT1000 from boss that was about a year I think before they made bass patches available for download. But yeah, it’s not like playing a bass through a DS-1 for example where you have to replace several capacitors to keep the bass
How do line 6 release their products with such shit presets? That's what people have been complaining about for years. They should just pay some pros and producers to make the stock presets so they aren't as laughable.
It actually depends on the application and the bass tone/setup you are going for. I actually experienced the opposite, specially when trying to make my bass tone work in a mix. I wouldn't rule out experimenting with cabinets a little if I were you.
Depends, if you're using drive effects (or pushing a tube amp/sim) regularly, the cab sim will kill some of the really harsh highs that you get if running DI. If you're going for a purely clean tone...I can see wanting only the bass/amp tone

They should go more into the device and it's options for bass players before making a 45 minute video. These routing features are massive. Take a clean bass amp without cab and a clean or dirty guitar head with a cab and blend those to taste. Cabs tend to really make the lows hard to control when you just change them. Over those two little speakers it may not seem a big problem, but when you play through a 215/412/810 it really is way to problematic.
To every one who thinks they can plug into a piece of gear that will automatically make them sound better, it does not. You just can't plug it into a guitar amp and expect it to sound good without setting up the right configuration that your plugging into. I see a lot of people trying out some gear without thinking that a guitar amp is going to sound like a full range speaker then they think "this sucks" then go on to the next magic box that will make them sound like Jimi Hendrix by just plugging in to be disappointed yet again.
For recording, Line 6 Helix Native bass sims are the best I've found thus far. (there aren't a ton of options out there). For guitar, Helix Native is...mixed. Distortion sounds are pretty meh IMO, free stuff or much cheaper plug ins sound better. For clean or leads it's awesome. I got it on sale for 280, it's worth that. It isn't worth $400 IMO.
