Also make my own. Tried all 3 methods. Ironing is cleanest and easiest. I use fairly raw beeswax from a local farm so there is still a bit of honey in it. This is perfect to give it a bit of stickyness.

since your wax still has honey, do you still use resin? I have wax from when I used to keep bees and extracted honey - I saved the caps and would melt it out for keeping wax for wraps, lip balm, etc - but never got around to doing all the things. Excited to finally make things for presents this year.

The method I use is to get a cotton or linen pillow case, sprinkle the beeswax pellets over it, roll it and fold it up and stick it in the microwave for a couple of minutes. You have to check it now and again to see that it is not getting too hot (ie smoking) but this is by far the quickest and least messy way in my experience.

I have to stress the importance of careful supervision for this microwave method, and that the turntable is revolving properly. It gets extremely hot inside the rolled-up fabric and you can finish up with burn spots and a ruined project. There is quite a narrow window between the heat required to melt the beeswax and setting the whole thing on fire.@@OurGabledHome

A lot of people make the beeswax wraps only with beeswax. Pine resin seems to be fine to come in touch with food and the EWG gives it a green "1" rating. Can you use olive oil in lieu of the jojoba oil?

I haven't tried that but I would say, theoretically yes. You could experiment with just one or two wraps and see what happens. If you do, let me know how they turned out 😊 ~ Anja

In your parts measurements, are you using gram or oz. weight or measuring utensils?

I made several of these just as you but they are very sticky yet don’t stick to any jar. The parchment paper was wet. Maybe put too much of everything on it?

    • @OurGabledHome

If it's not sticky enough you can try adding more resin and a bit more beeswax.

Hi Linda, if you're allergic to pine, I would just leave out the resin and use a bit more bees wax. Hope this helps 😊 ~ Anja

Very nice video, beautifully done, but the methods shown are not for me. They look too time-consuming. I'm going to look for a method where you start with a ready solution of beeswax, raisin, and oil (but something a bit less pricey than jojoba oil, like linseed oil or rapeseed oil) and immerse the fabric in one way or another.
What I do like with your method, though, is that it seems very neat (no big messes), economic (not a lot of waste), and precise.

Most cloths at this point are partly or even mostly synthetic, they can't be composted. You can only compost it if it's 100% cotton. Otherwise, great video!
