I’ve wanted to make beeswax wraps and went looking on UA-cam for tutorials, but the ones I found were quite labor-intensive and messy. Your way of making them is brilliant!
This is fantastic. I was watching another channel and she made food bags with a plastic-coated cotton, which I a) would like to avoid and b) don't have any, and I was going to ask if she thought I could sew beeswax wraps to create a bag. Now I know it's possible!
Yes, I do have some metal clips but the plastic ones are easier to open I find. In their defence, they have lasted me for ages and I'll probably keep hold of them forever! c x
I love them! My concern was if I sewed them on my machine would the beeswax clog up my machine as a certain amount will get caught on the feeders and the needle?
I've sewn quite a bit of waxed cotton and never had any issues. Maybe if you sewed for hours and the light on your machine made everything a bit warm it might cause the beeswax to migrate but I'm sure it would just act as a lubricant rather than clog it up? c x
I've just been given a 18lb piece of beeswax and franticly looking to see what I can do with it🤪. I only wanted a small piece to help me with thread with cross stitch lol. Thank you
Not that I've noticed. I would think that as long as you're working area isn't too heated the needle should just glide through the wax without any build up, c x
Thanks for sharing! Much more easy to use the iron for melting instead of melting in a bowl. Can you also recommend what kind of fabric is better to use?
Goodmorning, first of all thank you for this video it is exactly what I was looking for! I know I arrive quite late but did you create yourself this beeswax or did you buy it? If you did it yourself you just melt everything together? If bought could you indicate where please ? 😊 Thank you in advance!! I can't wait to try it!
Didn't like the sound of the pine resin, looking at comments online it seemed to make the mix too sticky and with pets in the house that was the last thing I needed - dog hair in my sandwiches! c x
Glad you like it. I wonder if either of these are what you're looking for - ua-cam.com/video/JpI9wwx5HSI/v-deo.html or ua-cam.com/video/CpPkPGPp0Ak/v-deo.html c x
Thank you so much for such a nice video, clean, short, and direct! since I don't have at the moment jojoba oil at home, I would like to know what is jojoba oil for, is it too bad if I don't use it?
It shouldn't be too bad if you don't have any, I believe it's anti bacterial which is why I added it. My first beeswax wraps were without it and they were fine. I washed them in washing up liquid between uses and that kept them bug free, c x
I bought the ingredients separately and melted them in a tin over a pan of water. I used about 2 parts beeswax, one part coconut oil, few generous splashes of jojoba oil and then poured the mix into soap moulds to harden, c x
Just a thougt, aren’t you supposed to shred the bees wax then put another bakingsheet over before you start ironing ? I don’t want to ruin my iron… Great video!
I'm back again. I ended up using the semi-solid coconut oil. I understand the 3-1 ratio for wax/coconut oil, but it makes a difference if it's cups or tablespoons as to how much jojoba oil I used. So far I have melted 3 cups of wax to one cup of coconut oil. Should I use my whole 4 oz. bottle of jojoba oil?
No, you won't need that much. I know it's far from precise but 'a good splash' should be adequate. It will distribute through the melted wax and provide the wrap with some degree of anti bacterial, anti microbial and anti fungal protection, c x
I ended up using the whole bottle. With 3 whole melted cups of beeswax and the semi solid coconut oil (one cup) it made for a nice pliable finish when applied to the fabric. I can always add more wax as I have a bunch.
@@tarba sorry, been away for a bit. I'd try lessening the pressure on the foot if you can, making sure you have a new/sharp needle, and use at least a 3mm long stitch. Did you use quilt weight cotton to coat with beeswax? Is your beeswax too thick? c x
You won't be able to coat the bag once it's made because it will stick to itself as you're applying the wax. It is much easier to coat the fabric when it's flat and a single layer, c x
Ha ha, I don't think I said I didn't like it, I'd just heard mixed reviews and it sounded a bit too sticky. With a dog and a cat around I decided that 'sticky' was going to mean my blocks of cheese had an extra seasoning of unnecessary hair... 😆😆 c x
Great idea. // SHLM & HaB (peace & love). The Name of the Creator is Hayah asher Hayah, as what He told Moshah (Exodus 3:14), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. There is a curse to the G-o-d name (Isaiah 65:11-12), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. All followers of the Messiah are to do the 7 appointed times (Leviticus 23), but no more animal sacrifices, following the Crucifixion of the Messiah. We are now of the order of MLK TSDQ (King, righteous), to Whom ABRaHM tithed. Ask the Messiah to be your personal Savior. He said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6). All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of Hayah (Romans 3:23). The wages for sin is death but the gift of ALaHYM is Everlasting Life through Messiah Yahushgh our Master (Romans 6:23). That if you confess with your mouth the Master Yahushgh and believe in your heart that ALaHYM raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved (Romans 10:9). He Himself is an Atoning Offering for our sins, and not for ours only but also for all the world (1 John 2:2). The Messiah died on the cross, & Resurrected three days later (presenting Himself as First Fruits to the Father). Please ask Him to be your Savior. He is the ONLY way to Everlasting Life.
I sew the bag first, then trim and wax it. My bags are well used. Would recommend this project.

Love ur approach to the premade blocks and just using the iron rather than bowl and brush
Hi, I am watching from NZ. Does the beeswax leave a residue on the sewing machine. Love these but have not sewn the waxed fabric. 😊
I will be making a few of these to use…great instructions👏👏

I love your instructions very well done! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you, c x
This is the best video I've seen for this process 👏 ❤❤❤ thank you so much 💓
this is brilliant. You coup use metal clips instead of plastic ones making it completely eco-friendly.
Yes, I do have some metal clips but the plastic ones are easier to open I find. In their defence, they have lasted me for ages and I'll probably keep hold of them forever! c x
thank u - this makes it much easier - I learn best visually so this will be so helpful! : )
Thank you Karen, Good to know, I have had the same experience with cheese and plastic wrap. Happy New Year, Chris-Raleigh NC
Love this! Thank you for sharing. 🌻
Great alternative to PUL lined reusable bags.
💡Wrap a regular iron with aluminum foil to prevent wax from getting in the steam holes.
Many thanks for your great video! I also have dogs and not a fan of dog hair on my bags ! Mahalo 🤙🏼

@SewistChannel do you use any particular thread and/or sewing foot?
I've just been given a 18lb piece of beeswax and franticly looking to see what I can do with it🤪. I only wanted a small piece to help me with thread with cross stitch lol. Thank you
This is useful! Thank you for sharing
Does the wax collect in your sewing machine?

Do the beeswax bags require a specific fabric or sewing thread?
Why are you not using Jojoba oil, Pine Resin and Beeswax? Other than that I love how you made the Sandwich bag. Just what I was looking for.
Didn't like the sound of the pine resin, looking at comments online it seemed to make the mix too sticky and with pets in the house that was the last thing I needed - dog hair in my sandwiches! c x
very good !
Does the wax make the needle stick or blant ?
i used VEGAN WAX,,, THE BEST FOR THE BEES AND PLANET, THANK YOU FOR THE CLASS
Keeping bees for honey, wax and propolis IS good for the planet. We protect and tend the bees then remove only some of their products. Mutual benefit.
I was wondering if the was is bad for the sewing machine. Couldn’t I just was it after I sew the bag?
This is super cute! I was looking for your origami patchwork bag. Is that video still available?

Is your iron tray a hard hard plastic? Where did you find it?
So you recommend bees wax and coconut oil to prevent that sticky touch form only bees wax right?!

Does the wax ruin the needle or accumulate in the sewing machine?? I’m nervous I’ll ruin my machine!
Wondering where I can get the beeswax, coconut, jojoba oil cakes or if you could supply a recipe so I can make them at home?
I bought the ingredients separately and melted them in a tin over a pan of water. I used about 2 parts beeswax, one part coconut oil, few generous splashes of jojoba oil and then poured the mix into soap moulds to harden, c x
Do you use the liquid coconut oil or the kind that's kind of solid?
The solid when cold stuff. I assume there must be something added to liquid coconut oil to keep it liquid, c x
Just a thougt, aren’t you supposed to shred the bees wax then put another bakingsheet over before you start ironing ? I don’t want to ruin my iron…

parchment paper or a tephlon iron protector sheet will save your iron

How do you clean these in between uses?
I just rinse them in warm water with a bit of washing up liquid, c x
Thanks for the tutorial. My sewing machine is struggling, it won't sew through it. Any suggestions please x
Ps. Does it matter which needle you use or suggestion for stitching settings x

That's not true... just pull it apart before it dries, the wax will mess up your machine. I know because it messed up mine after two bags.
Why don't you like pine resin? :)
Ha ha, I don't think I said I didn't like it, I'd just heard mixed reviews and it sounded a bit too sticky. With a dog and a cat around I decided that 'sticky' was going to mean my blocks of cheese had an extra seasoning of unnecessary hair... 😆😆 c x
@@SewistChannel Good thinking! I have pets too! Now Im thinking twice
Why don't you like the resin
She said the resin is sticky and may attract pet hair.
Great audio..
I know... sometimes you don't realise how echo-y you are till it's too late! c x
