Please everyone wash your fabric in hot water before making. Most fabrics from the store are treated with chemicals so the colors don’t fade and they look nice. Plus they have been moved around in warehouses and stores exposed to lots of “stuff”. That said, This is a great tutorial! I love beeswax wraps. They can even go in the garden compost once they are completely worn out.
Enjoyed your video. Questions: Did you wash out the sizing from the fabric before you cut and waxed? What about the dye that’s is used on the fabric- are there any potential issues with it leeching into the wax? If you want to freeze bread for example, could you wrap it and then put it in a plastic bag to freeze?
Can you break down your fabric cuts - and how many you got. I know at the end you gave some numbers - but would be helpful to know the exact cuts and sizes that 2 yards gets you!. Thanks!
Thanks so much for the video- I have been baking sourdough for a few months now, anytime anyone asks how to store the bread, people mention "beeswax wraps" quick google, amazon, Etsy and the "oh I can make these" later here I am! Do you find these stick well enough with just the beeswax? I see others add the Pine rosin? Thank you again for your video ❤❤
I've never heard of these types of wraps before. I want to start making homemade breads and cookies, and these will be perfect for storage!! Thanks Erica!! 🫶💯
Are all beeswax considered food-grade/safe as long as they are natural/organic? By the way, I am glad to watch this very comprehensive video. Thank you ❤
Whenever I use brushes like this and need to wash them I wash them in hot soapy water, I just do it quickly and rinse well in cool water. I also shake as much of the water out afterwards as possible and put them on a paper towel to air dry.
Wash in hot soapy water (just do it quickly, don't leave it soaking in there for a while) and rinse in cool water. Shake out as much of the excess water as you can and lay on a paper towel to air dry.
The wax completely penetrates the fabric all the way to the other side. It's no different than putting water on the fabric. The water would go right through, and so does the wax.
Zero is correct. You can wash them in cold water only, a little dish soap, and you can even use a dish brush on them during the process. Rinse in cold water and lay across a dish rack to air-dry.
I would use Dr. Bronners liquid castile soap to hand wash the cloth, and no diluted bleach, vinegar or lemon juice rinses or fabric softeners. My preference is heavyweight unbleached muslin....this way I'm already two ahead with no chemical bleach residue or dyes of questionable origin.
You forgot to dye set your fabric with a vinegar water soak😳 Fabric also needs to be washed and dried without fabric softener, before you start, just like when you sew a garment. Fabric often contains harmful chemicals and dyes. Full dipping in an old crockpot in my opinion is better. It didn’t look to me that your material was coated throughly with enough wax. . Bees wax wraps are better with the Addition of pine resin!
From someone who dyes fabric consistently, vinegar does nothing for setting dye. Washing it with hot water and gentle detergent removes excess dye but you need special detergent to actually set dye. No need to do both steps! You can wash with vinegar if you want, but no need to soak and wash.
@beckyallen3771 Btw, full dipping unquestionably oversaturates the fabric and makes the wraps overly hard, overly sticky, and downright unusable. Less is definitely more when it comes to beeswax wraps. Not to mention the beeswax wraps she was using seemed to be fully saturated and very functional.

Thanks as I was wondering whether to wash or not… so just hot water, sounds great.
I'm definitely trying this!!😍 I just harvested my first batch of honey from our honey bees, I also purified my wax! This is brilliant 🤩❤
I can't wait to make these. Thanks for sharing!!❤
Wow!! Thank you for this great idea!!! Going to TRY to make these for the hubs and kids lunch boxes. Love your channel. ❤
Yass! Aw thank you, you're so sweet!
I just made them. Thank you for your tutorial❤

Do you wash the fabric to get the sizing chemicals out of it?
I can’t wait to make mines. Thank you so much.
I can’t wait to try this method. 👍🏻
When you sell
Them do you include instructions (like don’t microwave, etc.)? LOVE THEM

Question. I have a ton of extra blank shirts from making shirts. They are unused. Would they work for this? After washing them and what not
As long as they’re 100% cotton, you’re good.
I've never heard of these types of wraps before. I want to start making homemade breads and cookies, and these will be perfect for storage!! Thanks Erica!! 🫶💯
Yasssss! & So easy to do too!
Are all beeswax considered food-grade/safe as long as they are natural/organic? By the way, I am glad to watch this very comprehensive video. Thank you ❤
I think so
Yes. Beeswax is 100% edible.
Your craft room is amazing 😻 ❤❤
Thanks so much!
Great video! Thanks.
Thank you! Love this stuff
I am going to make these! Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching!
Wow, excellent video
You don’t kneed to pre wash fabric first.?
Can you reuse the same parchment paper for every wrap 🐹? Love the video very useful ❤
How do you wash the brush?.
Thanks!. Great video

Can you sew it first for a snack poich or sandwich pouch then dip in beeswax ?
If you try it, maybe place parchment in the pocket and do same process for each side
Why didn’t you wash the fabric before using it? I liked the video!
Love this!!
🇨🇦 do you need new parchment paper with each new wrap?
I love it
Thank you!!!
How to clean the brush that sticked with the beeswax?
I would use the disposable brush and toss it when finished with the project
Wash in hot soapy water (just do it quickly, don't leave it soaking in there for a while) and rinse in cool water.
Shake out as much of the excess water as you can and lay on a paper towel to air dry.
Very nice!!
Do you wax both sides so it's sticky on both sides because when you fold it the top sides not going to have wax on it unless I miss that in the video.
The wax completely penetrates the fabric all the way to the other side.
It's no different than putting water on the fabric. The water would go right through, and so does the wax.
Hi ! Are these washable and reusable?
I read that you can use a wet rag and wipe them but not actually wash them. Cold foods only no fresh meats etc
Can wash them with cold water a little dish soap. But you can't put them in a washing machine or use hot water to clean them.

great idea😉
Maybe I missed it, but what temp did you have the oven at?
She said 175-200F but she set her oven @200
Do you need to prewash the fabric first?
Yeah

I watched someone use and iron, with unbleached parchment layered. It went fast and more even, where is your sap?
What is the best type of fabric to use?
Washed/clean Cotton
The only kind to use with this sort of project is 100% cotton
@@ShellyCline Do you know any other specification about the fabric? GSM, THICKNESS, Thread count etc?
@@athiratom9159Selecet fabric that is thin. It’s easier to shape around items.
Love wraps but the prices are just crazy

If you know how to make it… why are you here?
@@y.d.343 I was wondering the same thing

Would be easier to melt the beezwax first then brush it on
Do you just wipe clean?
I have the same question.. how do you clean them??
Cool water. Wipe clean. Hot water melts the beeswax.
Can I see you wrap anything with the wrap??
Ya first view and first like!
Thanks babe! 💕
$75/yr??!😳 That's wild!
