Been using chainsaws for 20 years and have struggled a lot with untangling chains. Thank you for the amazing tip - mind blown ! Can’t wait for more videos, outstanding work!
Yup, that’s about how much I clean my 220 as well. I’ve found the main thing is to make sure the path of oil is clear. I’ve had to use a small pin to clean out the oil output a few times. It all depends on what wood and how gunky it gets, but when the 220 is not getting oil to the bar, you know pretty quickly as it slows everything down when trying to cut. Cheers on another good video!
These saws are great but they have a habit of packing the space under the chain brake cover with chip. This causes the chain brake handle to go stiff, it can also jam the oil pump and seems to cause an issue where the saw won't start, bit as it chain break is on. Well worth popping the cover off, removing the sprocket and giving it all a clear out. At least once a year, perhaps twice if you are heavy user.
That is a brilliant tip to untangle chains, recently I had to untangle a new chain and I nearly lost my marbles doing it. I'll know what to do from now on. Thank you and I enjoy your videos.
Great video I enjoy my 220 purchased one next last year so I can cut during fire restriction here in the western US....won't replace my regular saws especially in big wood but can cut smaller trees and brush during the summer. Thank You Shoe
Very useful video! I bought this chainsaw the other week after using the msa200 for a couple of years and thought time for an upgrade. It worked well on the fresh smaller diameter wood but when cutting 10 inch diameter dry wood it struggled and seemed to loose power. Was using the ap300 and 300s batteries at the time. Have you had this and what might be causing it?
Great video as always. That was a easy clean up. Happy to see you back on UA-cam. I do follow you on Facebook. Can't wait for your video with your new saw. Take care and have a blessed weekend and I'll see you on your next video.
I've always found that WD40 works well for cleaning gunk out of mechanisms because it breaks down grease and sludge. And for cleaning smudges and smears on the outside, I use mechanics' hand cream hand cleaner, like Goop or Gojo. But I enjoy watching how you clean them, I can see your method works well for you.
That 220 has been on my radar to buy. It would be nice to have a battery powered saw for a quick trimming job without all the noise. Thanks for the look at the saw FL. 👍🏻👍🏻
@@Femalelumberjack I have the 3 MSA220C, MSA300 and 161T, very much comparing the 220C with MSA300 is like comparing a Ford Focus with a Mustang GT, but it not meaning their is no use for the 220.
Hey, can you please show us how to put it all back together slowly, so we can see a bit more clearly? How do you get the chain back on? Would be great to see how you clean the chain too.
I have the same saw try below up air in to chain locking device and you maybe surprise how much wood dust commes out from their I don't even know how it got their.
You should try a “”PS” chain sometime. Our local Stihl dealer had never heard of it, until I showed it to him in the Stihl catalog. Low and behold, he was able to get it from his Stihl distributor. It’s akin to the difference between RM and RS chain. It seems that most dealers aren’t even aware of it (like mine) until their customers show it to them in the catalog. Boy do I like how it cuts 🤗.
I was thinking the same thing. Any chain chain code with a "3" after it is the reduced kick back chain, and has a second hump on the drive link. The hump on the chain drags and the chain doesn't cut as good. So, PM3 , PS3 would be safety chain.
Thank you for the video! I cleaned mine up a few months ago which worked great but now I have a massive problem - I can't get the cover off! The wheel will just not turn and I can't move the chain tightener either. Any ideas on how to fix this without breaking anything? I've tried seeing if there is anything jammed in there but it's so difficult to see. Might add that I think the chainsaw had a harder time cutting after I did the maintenance cleaning - I don't think so but maybe I put the chain on wrong? Would be grateful for any tips you could give me!
More power to you! Can you please tell us how to clean the chain of the pitch and rosin built up on the driver links and the top of the cutting edge ? I may have the rakers too high! Kind regards Endre from Australia
Appreciate the content and I also like the new studio. Great feature wall for a background. Not as much natural light though, and probably easier to control the camera work. Well done.
Hi, Could you tell me the total length of the MSA 220 C. From the rear handle to the front of the chain guide. The total length of the chain saw. Thank you!
Could you review this saw in the field sometime please? I'd like to see if it can keep up with the gas saws and how the batteries hold out on them. What's the highest amp hour batteries you can get for them now? Great video! Happy quieter and lower co2 sawing!
On my msa 220 with 300s battery about the same time as my petrol echo 2511wes basically a surprising amount of time. Infact it lasts more than the tank on my 500i. I have two batteries I use for making branches smaller before they go into my green mech. The advantage is that they are always ready to go and if only used for a short time need no warm up or cool down. This may be why they last longer than gas powered saws of equivalent size. Just rember to add the bar oil easily forgotten if you are not refueling. I don't have experience of the 500s batteries and new msa 300 series as it would probably get me killed by the misses to add a seventh chainsaw. Lol
