Good idea putting an oil indicator on. As hard as I try not to, I run my electric saw out of oil all the time! I must not be the only one! Another great video!

I hadn't thought about running out of oil, but that makes sense. I add oil when I fuel up, so I don't run out. I am glad to see the electric saws becoming viable for arborists.

Thanks for the video! I think that was very smart of Stihl to put an air filter to the electrical internals. I have been happily using a Makita battery top handle for 2 years, but am worried that wood dust is getting inside it, and cannot clean without a full strip down, so excellent to see that Stihl has thought of this. Also great to see the oil indicator, as others have mentioned, when using battery saws I am often accidentally running out of oil. - thanks for sharing your thoughts on this new model 👍

I bought my ground gal ( my wife missy) a Milwaukee hatchet. I've kinda commandeered multiple times. A few times for an entire tree!! I really like not having to pull start a saw every time I make a cut,in between climbing and trimming. Great video. Nice saw.💚🌳💚🌳treepeople

I decided to try a MSA-200, with two 300 model batteries and fast charger. I wanted my son to get some chainsawing experience, limbing and cutting down smaller trees. I use it for odd jobs, quick, quiet and convenient. We recently took down three 12-14” dia. birch trees with the 261 and limbed and buck the tree with the MSA-200. The battery was only down one power level out of four. Not sure I’ll need to use the second battery, but think you could run all day, swapping batteries. Stihl rates the 300 battery for 45 mins. of continuous use.

    Thanks for the video.
I'm glad you stated the difference between the electrical kw and the mechanical kw. Not many companies do this and it can be misleading.
I have the Makita 306z (36v top handle) which is 1.2kw and 1.4kw on boost. It weighs 4.7kg with 2 x 5amp batteries.
The updated 40v version is 1.4kw constant (24ms chain) and 4.2kg with the recommended 4amp battery
I'm getting a test version of that soon so we will see how it does. As we know, torque is far more important than rpm so in real life, there may not be much of a difference.
Sound is very distracting and we've taught ourselves that loud engine noise = power which is obviously not true.
I gave a work colleague my EGO blower to try and the Stihl petrol one we use. He said the Stihl petrol had more power.
The EGO blower is about 40% more powerful :)
1.7kw is a big improvement since the last Stihl climbing toy...I mean saw.
The Makita is great for small pruning (id say up to 120mm) but really over that, it starts to become a chore. The boost mode is good but takes about 5 seconds to engage and absolutely chews through batteries so I don't tend to use it much and pick up my Echo 360T.
P.S......Change battery....check oil.....It's really not much different from running a petrol saw. With mine, I usually get two battery changes before filling the oil which will be helpful if you are up a tree. Just send a new battery up rather than the saw down. I keep a bunch of small bags (like jacket stuff sacks) with a drawstring (in my daily work bag) to use to send up items that don't tie well.
    Thanks
    Dan

Have you compared the AP300s to the AP500? ie. is the 500 worth the extra expense for this saw in your opinion? I've been happy with the 300 and 300s with my 161t, just not sure of their performance with a 220. thx

If you don't cut much, give a serious look at the premix canned fuel. Yeah it's bleeding expensive per gallon, but for someone like me, who only uses a gallon or two per year, well worth it.

@@carltondoorman9145 Take a look. It's alkylate based, so completely different than pump gasoline, and doesn't go bad or damage carbs like pump gas. Stupid expensive, but for the occasional user, well worth it. The $40/yr it costs me, to completely eliminate fuel issues, is money very well spent.

I was really hoping this would be a bit better competitor to the Husqvarna model. I'm more of a Stihl fan most of the time, but I still think that the Husquvarna is the better battery top handle. Perhaps Stihl will make some tweaks to make it more of a close match. If they do, I'd consider buying one.

Check out the EGO CSX3003 12" PRO TOP HANDLE SAW they recommend a 5ah battery but make a 12ah battery for some of there other products that you can use with it. It has a holder
with a power cord you can fasten to your harness so you don't have the weight of the battery on the saw. It also has a low oil indicator light. It is 56v I believe an 18" bar is max recommended for it.

The handles are still rectangular, untextured, slippery plastic after all these years of building saws. So disappointing.
It would be great to see a slight palm flair with a slightly wider outside edge. Texture the handle so sweat can channel away and put a stickier surface over the top handle. Side loop could remain slick but softer rubber takes vibration away.
I wrap my 200t in tennis handle wrap. It’s unmatched for sweat management
