I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but do you have tips how to get the double crochet stitches close together? Like should I be pulling the yarn in my left hand tighter(as a righty) while going to loop through those first two loops? Or should I be pulling all three loops to the same level before doing that step? Or maybe doing the complete opposite and going through the first two loops immediately without levelling all three. Sorry lol I hope I make sense, but I'm trying to make these bottoms but whenever I try it's very hole-y and you can see through the stitches, and I don't feel comfy with that! Please please help.

Maybe you didn't make double crochet in top of the first ch 3. The first ch 3 will be counted as the first dc, maybe you didn't realize you missed dc in top of the first ch 3. I hope that helps.

I believe it is about the tension when you are pulling the yarn with your left hand when making loops with right. Does that make sense?
