- The easiest way to tap into your fuel tank on a Ford Transit Custom.
After watching the few videos on tapping into the auxiliary fuel supply on a Ford Transit Custom, I found in the comments section that it was possible to use the little known auxiliary feed on the side of the fuel tank as opposed to the popular route of tapping in from the top of the tank.
The main advantage being you do not need to remove the fuel tank for access.
I made it more difficult than it needed to be as I was working on my drive and did not jack the vehicle up, however I managed to complete the job and now I am able to supply fuel to my diesel heater which will be installed at a later date.
Roy top tip about using the rear fuel pick up nipple saves a lot of work just going to do mine.thanks Roger.

My 2018 Ltd 290 transit custom (pre facelift) didn't have this extra fuel port. But the possibility of it being there was enough to get me started on the job.
I did manage to drop the tank enough using wooden blocks and the van's own jack to get to the main port. Even with a quarter tank still in the van.
Swearing happened.
The heater works tho, so all is good in the end.

Yeah. Way easier from what I've seen of VWs.
For anyone else trying this who doesn't have the second accessory port, I removed the two tank traps at the back of the vehicle and left the front one on ( just slightly loosened on the passenger side).
Then lowering the back of the tank on a jack I could get my hand in to cut the top of the port on the main sender unit.
Just remember to put the pickup tube in before you clip the attachment on, unlike me. Much swearing trying to get it off again.

Hi Roy.. I know I'm asking the question because it seems pretty obvious to me But, is the Video shown Flipped - Left/Right or are they Left hand threaded Bolts.. Will make a difference which side of the van to look....
Hello. Yes the video is flipped, but the bolts are normal right hand threaded type, right turn to tighten, left to loosen.
The auxiliary feed was on the passenger side of the fuel tank
