I served in Vietnam as a trauma surgeon back in 1969. Beatles ruled 1960s. I was and am a great fan of Beatles. I could not believe the music they created. I was lying on my bed in my hootch (shelter, military dwelling, with tin roof and screens held by wooden posts on the sides) waiting for any emergency to arrive, thinking about the great life, I left behind in good old U.S.A and wondering, if I will ever see that again My general practitioner friend, one of my six hootch mates was playing some Russian Symphony on his tape recorder. Suddenly there was a 30 second, segment in midst of symphony that startled me. A famous Beatles song was based on that segment. These likings and their improved versions by musicians do happen and in fact are a compliment to the original composition. There is nothing wrong with it, but you must not ignore hundreds of other original, beautiful, unmatched, highly creative songs by Beatles, O.P. Nayyer Sahib, Shanker Jai Krishin Sahib, Anu Malik Sahib, R.D. Burman Sahib and many others.
What you mean
Don't judge book by the cover. Thats what I mean.@@siddiqueyd1
Amazing sir 👏
Brilliant..❤
You are obviously referring to the Beatles' Use of "La Marseillaise" and Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture” in "All You need is love.” Both songs were in the public domain and out of copyright by then. Therefore this is not plagiarism. Secondly, the Beatles have openly and not clandestinely used these two references from the past.
i miss your father so much, such a great soul.. true gentleman..
Had an honour of meeting Tom Shab few times...Was always immensely impressed with his command over different languages..His English was as immaculate as his Urdu or Hindustani
But rhythm fully copied though.
I am a die hard fan of SJ. They were numero uno. I cannot imagine any musician could create Dost Dost Na Raha, and those piano notes played by Shankar himself in the original! Oooof.
However, Jamie is damn right. 🫡
SJ may have been inspired by foreign music tracks. But, indianising them to suit indian music ears is commendable. SJ has scored some of the greatest Hindi film songs.
This is not cool dude
tbh when Mohammed Rafi Sahab sings any song whether it is inspired or not he makes it sound 1000 times better
He is lousy copy cat Kishore is the greatest singer ever
@@nageshmr5209 no doubt Kishore da was also one of the greatest but get back to me when Kishore da could sing ghazals and qawwalis and bhajans like Rafi sahab did, they both are best but jitne genres Rafi sahab ne cover kiye hain na koi nahi kar sakta Aaj bhi na aage and not just attempting them he gave superhits in every genre
@@nageshmr5209kishore kumar agar 7 janam bhi lele tab bhi Md Rafi ke jaise nahi ga sakta.
@@nageshmr5209Rafi is a copycat? You may not like his music, that’s your prerogative but don’t call him a copycat and reveal your PROFOUND ignorance!
Kishore has several gems and I love to sing his songs, but Rafi has entire necklaces studded with gems; there are hundreds of very difficult Rafi songs I cannot even ATTEMPT!
@@nageshmr5209.Rafi Sab & Lata Mangeshkar are absolutely original.
But we love their work so much...Shankar- jaikishan great musicians
Me too
Hmmm... Copy cat musician still u love them 😅😅😅
SJ made hundreds of songs. 5 or 10 could be lifted or inspired. Does not change the fact of their genius work.
This is true. They are matchless. The composers of the original tunes may have very very few.But SJ created hundreds of songs.
that egyptian singer called UM KALTHUM she was our lata mangeshkar greeting from morocco
जेमी जी,वाकई में आपके बताए हुए अंग्रेजी गाने का हिंदी रूपांतरण ही महसूस हो रहा है।
I am Big fan of Shankar ji jaikishan ji and they changed indian music style jamie sir you given very usefull details of tunes which SJ converted in Hindi music tunes was very very beautiful thanks
O p nayyar aur shankar जय कोई ज़वाब नहीं सिर्फ और sif Indian songs
I'm a big fan of Shankar Jaikishan music... here are some of my favorites...🎧👌
1. Aye Gulbadan... Professor 1962.
2. O Mehbooba... Sangam 1964
3. Likhe Jo Khat ... Kanyadaan 1968
I like 'mai chali, mail chali' from Professor. All their songs for RK were hit, incl O Mehbooba! Also, all songs from Kathputli
Ae dil na mujhse chhupa from Badal.
Almost all successful MD's in Hindi film music SD/RD burman,SJ,Laxmipyare, Salilda,OP...etc have generously used music composed elsewhere, especially catchy music. There were few though who were completely original and creative, Jaidev the foremost among them, Khayyam to an extent, others like Vanraj Bhatia, Bhaskar chandawarkar never got much opportunity to showcase their talent. Then came 90's, computers, internet, softwares, sound libraries,samplers,ARR....etc. The music was completely transformed for galleries and original creative composing was peacefully buried.
Whatever tunes is copied to bring them in Indian folk music is the greatest work, and make it hit with limited music instruments, money was the great achievement of both, those songs are still unmatched in Indian history. so they are greatest musicians.
Wonderful, amazing research and marvellous vocabulary.
Serious or joking?
@@OneToothedWonder Why should I joke? It is my sincere opinion.
@@narendratendolkar261 Ha Ha Ha. Okay, have a good life.
O priya O priya to Rafi sahib ne bahut khoobsurat Gaya hai kya jaadu hai Rafi sahib mai

अगर आवाज रफी साहब की हो तो सोने पर सुहागा हो जाता था
@@AnilRattan If you think "Jeena yahan marna yahan", "Main gaaun tum so jaao" and "Yaad na jaaye" are inspired songs, please mention the western songs that inspired them.

धुन को जैसे का तैसा चुरा लेना और प्रेरणा में कोई फर्क नहीं है ? दूसरे की दुकान से सामान उठाकर अपनी दुकान में रख लेना प्रेरणा है या चोरी ? 😂😂😂😂
SJ was the bank of music. They always had 100s tunes in their reserve and Producers used to sit in their studio to select their tunes in advance paying them 5 lac rupee at that time in 60s equivalent to 5 core now.. Jaikishen was the master of making romantic and philosophical tunes.. and ofc Rafi Sb was in their disposal to sing all those very difficult high, low pitch songs..
S.J. BADSHA OF HINDI FILMS INDUSTRY FROM 50s to 70S LONG 20 YERS .RIP 🙏 ⚰
Gumnaam hai koi originally composed by Henary Mancini.
Excellent reaserch jamie....
There is no match for Shankar-Jaikishan's music❤.
Ron Goodwin has played a very vital role in the carrier of Shankar Jaikishan. Thanks to many many foreign composers round the globe who were the main contributors in making Shankar Jaikishan’s carrier on the top.
What a beautiful adaptations. We were enriched by these originals.🎉🎉🎉
Jamie - Ghar Aya Mera Pardesi is one of my favorite song since childhood.
Kya baat hai Sirji Apka Research ki👌👌
Favourite songs even sometimes I also listen other versions.
I accidently stumbled on this channel and loved the content, have subscribed now.
I loved your dad, Tom Alter...his interview with SRT is a major milestone in my memory...and then Parinda...in terms of his screen presence
Dear JamIe I realize that you are a genious music researcher. How amazing you are. I am fan of Shanker J kishon from my childhood. Their evergreen Songs are my favourites but now its very surprising for me that famous & remarkable Songs were copied from other Songs. Example of Elvis Prisley's Song has joyfully suprised me. Anyways Song of film Jhuk gea Aasman is my favoutite and I like it. (Fan from Pakistan)
Alter sb ! Very well narrated.
Lots of respect from Peshawar Pakistan 🇵🇰
Still Shankar Jaikishan are the greatest Hindi film’s music director of all time. My love and admiration won’t fall short for them. Even they were inspired from other songs, they took those song to their own level where no one could ever imagine to reach. They made each such songs more memorable than the original❤🎉.
AAP S.J. ko nicha dikha rahe ho.
What an eye opener. I thought and was proud that india could produce such golden tunes. Disappointed that they were plagarism
Sometimes, a music director may get inspired from some tune but when they made their own tune, they were brilliant. For example, RD Burman songs from Amar Prem, Aapki Kasam, 1942 A Love Story. And who can forget purely classical tune Ghar aaja ghir aaye badara sanvariya
राम राम ❤️🌹
I am a hard core Shankar Jaikishan fan but the interlude of Jeena Yahan (Mera Naam Joker) has been lifted without acknowledgement from Donauwellen Walzer (The Waves of the Danube), a waltz by Iosiff Ivanovici, the great Romanian composer
The tune played starting in Raj Kapoor films,,,also in song pyar hua iqrar hua,,ends,,,,is also inspired by some western classical composition,,,I forget it's,name
I am glad you did so much research. I am from the 60s era. The world was not so connected at all. If someone travelled abroad, he would come back and tell us fascinating stories of lands and people faraway.
We never knew that one day there will be an internet and everything will change. But like they say “no art is original”, it is always always inspired. I am an artist and we all grew up with inspirations. But some of these songs are completely copied and that too used to happen widely in India and Pakistan. Copied stuff I have a problem. I remember a friend who is a singer rehearsing for a song and the composer had urdu lyrics written to “Jolie Jolie”! It was us who in our surprise told him
That this was the song “Jolie” but he declined.
That used to happen a lot.
Now some people are picking up quaint African tunes, songs from little villages or stuff they heard from
Their grandmothers.
Aapki andaaz aur aapki awaz dono bahut hi badhiyan
"आ अब लौट चले" थोड़ा बहुत " ciao ciao bambino" se. बहुत ध्यान से सुनने पर एक लाइन का inspiration पता चलता है।
LOVE U SIR JI, GREAT VIDEO
Some songs of SJ inspired from Mozart. One in Anari.
Rd Burman so many songs inspired by Mozart
Wah guruji bahut sundar jankari 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Very good and deeply researched.Keep it up
Very informative compilation Mr Alter. Thanks a lot!
Dear friend thanks again for bringing out the originality of these so called famous music directors, but one thing no one should forget that Bollywood is an industry, here people come to make out money in whatever method, who bothers for creativity, every one drems to be famous overnight, how many art films are at box office, after all how a hungry stomach can think of creativity
Actually it's Better than the Originals 👈👍😇🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Excellent collection specially "ghar aja pardeshi " . Your style of presentation also very good without disrespecting Music directors .
Oh!!no, no, you awake me from sweet dreams (which I thought) to sad reality 😢
बहुत सही जानकारी देते हैं!
Nice Mr.Altor you impress of shanker jaikishan
I am a staunch fan of Shankar Jaikishan. They were the best ever. The melodic music they have left us is a treasure. I appreciate you saying music could have been inspired, in any case Shankar Jaikishan have a very high bar which others could not match.
Absolutely right bro
A very high bar of plagiarism indeed.
Bhai Saheb!
Thank you Jamie Sir, for your valuable info about inspired songs of Bollywood 👍
Hardwork from alter, thank you
SJ are great
Excellent 👌 No limit Music 🎶
Wow! Thoroughly researched.
Fascinating!!
हिंदी और हिंदी सिनेमा के बारे में आपका ज्ञान अद्भुत है
I appreciate their how they brought the good foreign music and mixed it in indian music so beautifully. This is what every indian should be proud of.
But they should have given credit to originals at least.
I'm impressed 👏
jamie alter bhai you are great.
Played cricket with ur dad. Nice man.
astonished to watch this
In those days western albums were available only on Vinyl records as there were no internet, you tube, face book etc. However All India Radio used to air one hour western tracks program called listeners choice. Shanker jaikishnan in 1950-early 70s have composed beautiful melodies which have become immortal. Who can forget SJ composition from movies Dil Ek Mandir, Asli Naqli, Awara, Sangam, Rajkumar, Mera Naam Joker, Anari, Junglee and many more
Hey JAMIE, I cannot say how much I loved TOM ALTER. My heart melts seeing him acting. A great legend. 🥰🥰🥰
Wonderful what a collection by you.

Thanks for sharing information ❤
Thank you for sharing. I grew up listening to the songs from April Fool and Jhook gaya aasman. RD Burman's Phir wohi raat hai from a film called Ghar was inspired by an English song Sing a song.
You are a genius. We could never imagine these famous composers of Bollywood copied from other composers. However, there are some famous coipes as well: like Bramhs 2nd Sympthony and Bethoven's 7th Symphony.
Tom sir, truly these songs are inspired from elsewhere, but they are fine tuned to our hindi language and even today, we all are enjoying them. Thank you very much for your presentation. I like it.
Hi Jamie, Thanks for being respectful for calling these inspirations. After all these are our classics. Truly old is gold.
I LOVE the English songs
Awesome Sir
Nothing wrong with bringing music from other countries and cultures and languages .. otherwise we would never have come to know some of the gems. Some are clearly lifted 100% but some aren't that close. Thanks for the comparison Jamie. I wonder if ARR has any inspired songs!
Way to go Jamie❤❤❤❤❤Love you and the hard work you have put up in bringing out the 'inspiration' that our Bollywood legendary musicians got,😂😂😂😂world over❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
1 jhook gaya Asaman inspired from Who makes my heart... by Elvis Presley, from FUN IN ALCAPUNO 1963.
2 April Fool , inspired from Take me back to Cairo, by Karim Shukry
3 Awara, Ghar Aya Mera pardesi, inspired from... Egyptian Singer Umm Kulthum , Oriental Chill,
4 Dil apna Preeti parayi, Ajeeb dastaan Hai... Jim Reeves, My lips are sealed
5 Jungli, Aiyai ya karun Mai kya.... inspired from Nina & Fredrick SUCK SUCK
6 Jab pyar kisi se hota Hai, jiya ho... inspired from Sherapon Broken hearted melody...1958
7 Jab pyar kisi se hota Hai, bin dekh bin pehchane inspired from Dancing Eyes 1959,
Great research, and thankless ? But useful to fans as EYE OPENER.... GENIUS KAUN HAI
Awesome content Jamie as usual👌 Please do more content on 80's 90's music & Masala movies 🎬
Very well explained and documented👍
Wonderful 👌🏻
Thanks for your proper post mortem.
Shankar jaikishan jaise aur koi nahin
Sahi pakde hain
Aren't abroad musicians not inspired by Hindi musicians? Hindi music directors have added their own wisdom to make songs melodious!!
Wayne was inspired by RDs mukti movie track and who forget apple ad plays RDs track of burning train
Nice, very nice. Full nostalgic both in hindi & english. A good presentation. I like to hear from u further.
No word...
Beatles song , I want to hold your hand was also an inspiration for one of SJ’s song Dekho abto kis ko Nahin hai Khabar.
Great video.. I listened to the Ron Goodwin Album- Music for an Arabian night. I thought that many other tunes from that album have “inspired” Shankar Jaikishan’s other songs too
Yes, like 'baaje payal chamcham hoke bekarar'. My father has this vinyl LP of 'Music for an Arabian night'.
बहुत मज़बूत पकड़ है भाई ।
Thank u for making such inspired video
