- Alhamdulillah, my second ornithopter is done and have a great flight. this flying bird mechanism is so challenging, especially with rubber powered.
Balsa wood construction, and some connecting rod made from stick ice cream (harder then balsa wood) to get strong and good construction.
Covering with thin plastic glued with spray glue. What a lovely bird.
This plan is pterothopter ornithopter model, plan by colin taylor.

I was 7 years old back in the mid 80s and there was an educational special about a little boy who wanted to join a competition of flying rubber band airplanes made out of balsa wood and thin plastic sheets ... similar to these. Some of the design in this documentary had aircraft that were made of straws and tooth picks and other light weight materials all custom made and capable of flight similar to this ornithopter ... I was never able to find a club or competition of what i saw in the documentary and no one I told or at the hobby stores believed me they just tried to sell me kit rockets. This was very nostalgic. Thanks for sharing. Thumbs up.
