“I have absolutely no idea what that means but they are touting it on their website so it must be a big deal.” That is the most accurate way I look at the smaller detailed specs when I shop I’ve ever heard! For me it’s all about the day-to-day nuances of the operation over the specs and for that I think this video is just fantastic thank you.
Just a little disappointed in your example comparisons. The whole point of ND is to allow you to reduce shutter speed or maybe maintain shallow depth of field with flash, preferably without the notorious colour shift. Somehow you've manage to use the same exposure with and without ND and/or polarizer. Maybe a correct exposure without the ND followed by the compensated exposure with the ND would have best demonstrated any colour shift or lack thereof. All you've shown is that an ND will block light and a polarizer will polarize.
Noticed that as well. Bit if a rookie mistake. So he didn't really show the intended effect of the filters. He basically just showed that they darkens the image :)

These filters are amazing, I just got the 77mm ND8PL and love it. It only has 3 stops of ND, but I find that to be perfect for sunset or sunrise. At times I would love to have more stops of light, but having this is better than nothing. I think the ND8PL is perfect for most occasions and at this price point it's nice to have something you can use almost always. I also bought and recommend the step-up filter from PolarPro, I have the 67mm-77mm which I use for my Nikon 35mm 1.4g lens. All of my other lenses are 77mm so I only needed one step-up ring.
Seeing you have the same speed/iso/aperture for pictures with and without the ND8/CPL. The ones without the filter were 3 stops over-exposed than the ones with the filter, as they appeared. But these are great filters with no doubt. No obvious color shift or loss of sharpness.
Ok they work as nd and polarizer. But all I care about is image quality Mark which is why I never put anything in front of my lens. However I have a very challenging site that I want to photograph in May 2022 due to the sun's position. How do these affect sharpness or other quality issues? I have purchased other polarizers in the range of $130. The results were not good. Images were soft compared to without.
I got one of these today, simply AMAZING, coming from Formatt Hitech, I must say these are in a class of there own. My motto has always been, why but a £1000 lens, to then put a £10 UV filter in front of it? I'm sold.
hello , want to ask about the ND 16ND/PL (4stops) enough for shooting outdoors ? means like a sunny days + lights hitting the objects ? and does 64ND/PL (6stops) way too dark for sunset / sunrise shots ? which one you think more versatile ?
Hi Mark, Are you still happy with this CP? I tried their combo ND-CP and didn't feel it was right for me. The CP is intended for an 82mm 24-70. Thankyou!
So on the 4 or 6 stop plus filter you can not see what you are photographing so how are people going about finding the correct degree of rotation for the polariser. Are we taking a photo or 4 with a high ISO to do a few test shots and then setting up on low ISO for the final image. All after you have focused the camera before applying the filter and isolating the auto switch on your camera lenses. Does anyone have any better ways to avoid 20 mins of test shots and 3 pairs of spectacles. ;- )
Have you used a polarized filter on a 16mm lens ? I use a sigma 16mm prime for apsc camera too shoot waterfalls, I've heard polarized filters on wide angle cause banding.
I think the quality is at least equal if not better than many premium filters on the market today. I love the fact that you can get two filters built into one filter - thats a nice touch!
This is a fantastic review! Thank you, Denney! I have one question. As a Variable Neutral Density (VND) filter is a stacked-dual-polarizer system, do you need to attach another CPL with it? For example, shooting a waterfall or stream.....where you need the long exposure as well as take out the reflection and glare.
Not a fan of circular ND's really... CPL's there's no other way, but ND's... I like the looks, seems premium and well made - but can't pay that much! Good video Mark, as always true opinion and clear details :)
They do look like good filters mate. I use Lee Filters and spent an absolute fortune on them. I reckon all my filters combined cost more than my main lens! If I could only have one filter I think it would have to be a CPL. ...no wait, actually it has to be a 10-stop ND filter. ...but then again I definitely couldn't be without my 3-stop soft edge grad... ...argh!!!!
Informative video. They remind me a lot of breakthrough photography . Similar offerings. I’ll keep them in mind for when I need additional filters. Will you be shifting from Nisi?
@@MarkDenneyPhoto Thanks for the response. Would you say getting a PL lens and then a ND lens and putting both on a 16-35 F2.8 (Sony A7II) would create too much stack and vignette? I"m trying to decide if I should go with the ND/CP lenses or just get one CP lens and the ND lenses.
A lot of PolarPro talking in the pipeline and I remember your video. Have you used the VND PolarPro filters yet? It looks amazingly easy to use compared to a filter holder system and square filters. I use a Nisi V5 100x100 and am really satisfied with Nisi but this PolarPro VNDs look to good to be true.
Kohizzzle I also have the same. NISI system and just got the PolarPro 2-5ND. I’m very impressed so far. I got the 82mm and use my 67 and 77mm step up rings. From what I can tell there is no color casting nor cross polarization. Making plans to get the 6-9 stop version now.
I have ordered my nd8pl but haven't received it as yet. Just wondering are they viable to use indoors? For weddings etc or is it better just for outdoors? Only asking because I would like to know if I would have to keep putting it on and taking it off dependant on lighting. Thanks
I dont like the durability test. Dropping sand on it is very light and doesnt prove anything. A better test would be to rub sand on it. That frequently happened when storing your filter in a pouch and a grain of sand gets in and scratches up your filter. Another testing method would be using scratch picks specifically designed to test scratch resistance. UA-cam channel JerryRigsEverything does this with cellphones. Using numbered picks with corresponding moh hardness to scratch cellphone screens. Car keys are metal which is actually quite soft and unlikely to scratch anything. A lot of youtubers test lenses with car keys or knives which are also metal and falsely conclude lenses as beung extremely scratch resistant. However rubbing grains of sand on lenses with a cleaning cloth would often mess it up because quartz and silica is much much much harder than steel. This happens more than you think and definitely should be tested.
these look really nice all the videos say they are great. I have a SLR magic vari nd mk2 and a BW Circular Polarizer for my sigma 18-35mm / gh5 . I plan on selling both those to get one of these.
jason lindquist So far I’m really enjoying the set that I have. I’m not sure just yet if they’re the best filters I’ve ever used, but I can say if they’re not they’re pretty darn close!
im sorry bro but I just bought a polarpro quartzline and compared it to my B+W, the B+W obliterated the polar pro. the poplar pro has a strong AF yellow cast compare to the B+W minor nonexistent color cast.
Why are you comparing photos with taken using the filter with overexposed images? You're not showing the benefit of the filter accurately.. nobody would take those filterless photos purposefully and the photos with the filter on are exposed properly due to the filter being on.
This would be more useful for me if it this was less "chatty" and more to the point. Don't really care for loooong introductions. Need to get to the point; for example cut this 15 minute session down to about 5-7 minutes. I already know I need a CPL. Better to compare several different products and provide basis to find the best VALUE.
If you can only have one filter - whatcha say?
Ummm...I would chose the.... filter pane in photoshop cc! Yup, thats the “one” filter i couldn’t do without! :).
definitely go with ND16/PL
CHATH K I agree with ya!
peter mckinnons new VND dropped today. game changer with the hard stops integrated with a VND.
McKinnon VND looks to be quite impressive, however how do you overcome no polarizing feature with this approach?

I would have liked a comparison with and without filter nd, but properly exposed the image, show images burnt as comparison is not very fair

What about the CPL alone? That's why I looked at this video

can you please explain in more detail the added benefits of the ND16/PL ... I am trying to make (ND8/PL or ND16/PL) decision? thanks

Guillermo Gallego Lora Much appreciated - glad you enjoyed the video. Very premium product, but they are pricey.
They are having a great sale right now
Excellent video! The examples you demonstrated were incredible and most helpful. Awesome job!
Thank you so much! Yeah the pics really tell the story - good stuff!

Haha! The struggle is real - it's tough to decide on which filter is the "must have" - all serve an important purpose!
Informative video. They remind me a lot of breakthrough photography . Similar offerings. I’ll keep them in mind for when I need additional filters. Will you be shifting from Nisi?
Brandt Bennett Thanks Brandt! Yep, similar style as breakthrough.
What do you thing of getting a circular polarizer and pair it with polar pro vnd vs the nd polarizer 2 in 1 combo option?
This video got me sold. Getting it.
Alejandra Chandler Glad to hear the video was helpful Alejandra! I’ll be picking up some more as well👍
Yes! I have been looking for a good review of this products and this one was great! :)
Awesome! So glad to hear it.
Nice job dude...will check these guys out!
Much appreciated man - thanks! Definitely worth checking them out. Good company!
Do you know if they're going to be making graduated ND lenses?
Bijan O I’m pretty sure that’ll be the next release from them.

That’s great - good choice you went with!
Thanks - I shoot weddings. I don't think it will get here in time for tomorrows wedding but I don't see this filter coming off my lens at all.
Thank you!
north carolina ?? im in durham which city you from?
im sorry bro but I just bought a polarpro quartzline and compared it to my B+W, the B+W obliterated the polar pro. the poplar pro has a strong AF yellow cast compare to the B+W minor nonexistent color cast.
299?
i will stick to the B+W's schneider kreuznach xs pro polarizer
2:58 CUT!!! TAKE 2
I think you should actually do that in the field. don't you?
