As a newcomer, watching people play Yu Gi Oh is indistinguishable from watching people play a parody of Yu Gi Oh
Its ridicilous that even in no banlist format maxx"c" seems super ultra broken compared to the other banned cards, yet somehow its at 3 in masterduel and ocg.
This is just literally proof that maxx c itself completely changes yugioh and we really do need 2 formats one where it is banned and 1 where it isn’t
Yes and no. Its easy to stop in no banlist. But these decks were more for fun than anything
You’re also forgetting the fact tcg is stupidly slow compared to ocg and MD so of course maxx c is ultra broken there whereas it’s kind of needed to allow a format to be fast without seeming uncounterable
It keeps going second viable in best of one.
If there was no side deck, it would be at 3 over here too.
@@1stCallipostle by "viable" you mean 90% of maches are desided by if you got maxx"c"'d without ash or called by, you just have to pass turn and get otk'd or keep going and lose to a 30 card hand.
Bro at that point you didn't lose to a player or deck, you lost to maxx"c" alone.
that kind of card isnt good for the format in any way.
and if you like that kind of card design, we need a card that says "if your opponent has activated maxx"c" this turn; you win the duel" and call it fair counterplay

Imagine my shock that no banned list YGO decks are super complex combo contraptions, where most of the skill seems to be understanding whether you are dead or not yet.
This was so fun, love the little interviews bringing context to the decisions and ideas with these decks!
I love that finally someone plays "Yu-Gi-Oh!" the way Kazuki Takahashi intended.

- with an empty deck
- without removing your opponent's cards
- using Maxx C as normal monsters
Tbf his opponent was specifically trying to deck him out, through the effect of maxc.

i used to play a custom format i made with a buddy of mine that i called “Kaoss”. the goal was simply, Chaos.
No deck limit, to counter people just making decks of massive proportions, we did graveyard reshuffle, where if you out drew your deck you piled your graveyard, reshuffled, and then played with your deck again.
no cards were banned, including those from other formats. often times both people had archenemy decks and planes, which was fun. planeshifting is removed, instead players may pick one plane and play it. it effects both players.
sideboard was a separate deck, that could be looked through at anytime. essentially a second hand, but you could not have more cards in your side deck than in half your main deck.
each player must get 2 turns before somebody can start winning, to prevent one turn wins
often there were limits on specific cards, like you could only have a max of 4 black lotus or blacker lotus in a deck.
you had a commander, but also a character card (sliver queen was very fun)

In the OCG, I believe that Victory Dragon Tearlaments was one of the strongest decks in no banlist. I'm not sure exactly what the OCG's rules on scooping (to Victory Dragon) was, but I heard that either you're only allowed to scoop on your turn or your opponent must accept your forfeit for it to count?
It's both players have to agree to the forfeit so you pretty much can't scoop in the ocg
No problem, just """accidentally""" shuffle your hand into your deck and incur a game loss penalty before Victory Dragon hits for lethal

So, I'd love to see more of this stuff, but I wanna see full power Dragon Rulers with modern E.D. stuff, vs Pre-Banlist Tearalaments.
Look into the OCG no banlist tournaments. It's all Tearlaments and Victory Dragonlink. The reason Victory Dragon is used in the OCG is because the surrender rules are different and require both players to approve. If you're going to win a match with only one game, you're not going to accept a surrender.

No, that would cause too many issues. Instead it should be something like MBT's tournaments, where most crazy cards are free, but not the problematic ones, so the format is still somewhat stable.
Trust me you dont actually want this. Its only fun cause both of them choose fun Decks over actually good decks

This is why there aren't many traditional format Turneys. It was honestly interesting to see what a format would be like with no banned cards.
Traditional format is probably honestly not bad. It seems a lot more fair I think when you only get to play with one of all the busted cards
the soul charge was your 1 way to keep playing after he outs your board with nib, and you wasted it, a valueble learning opportunity i'm sure.
Also OP. Blaster is one in Master duel though there was any play yet due to Runick Spright Tier zero format

There were some unofficial no banlist BO3 tournaments, and everyone was just trying to bring out Victory Dragon for match kill. In Tearlament decks.

+ 1 Soul Release - to remove hand traps from opponents grave or as last ditch at going 2nd if they don't put too much in grave
More consistent but you need to go first for it to work. Can go 2nd with exodia vs a couple negates. Lose hard to droll though lol

I'd have gone for hand traps+ exodia otk setup. It's pretty consistent with no bans and 2 or 3 of each piece...
a no banlist duel is just tear n nothing else if it was competitive so i’m happy that didn’t happen
I’d do ether a exodia deck cos so many draw spells legal equals super easy time to ftk, or I’d run a Laval quasar turbo deck. They are so close to being able to get 3 quasars and a blazer turn 0. But due to some consistency issues it doesn’t work. But with banned cards it makes the combo stupidly hard to beat and can negate nearly everything

22:46 If it’s frogs, it’s gotta be Mass Driver, right? But he’s not playing that many Frogs… it’s gotta be some kind of burn. Edit: One card I was also thinking of with ATK based burn was Manipulator of Souls, since it’s a rank 2. however it requires 3 dark monsters. I wasn’t far off.
So didnt the frog player misplay as at the end of Every turn players must discard till they have 6 cards?
