I'm an old guy that has been enjoying Rock, Hard Rock and Metal my entire life and I'm not really into this making comment thing. But I would like to point out that the 1960's Hippie Era are baby boomers who were born (1945-1959) . Those born in (1960-197? - There's some debate in Soc. circles) are part of Generation X and many were teens in during the 1970's. Gen X saw the rise of the early Punk and New Wave era in the mid 70's. So, no Hippies in Gen X because that was long over by the mid 1970's. Enjoy your journey and best to you Both.
Sorry but the post-war Baby Boom was well documented to last into 1964. Your use of 1959 is a convenient and memorable cut-off date (since it coincides with the ending of a decade), but its not historically or statistically accurate. The post-war birth rate in the United States did not fall to (or lower than) the pre-war birth rate until 1964 and thereafter. And the higher birth rate than that of the pre-war norms is, by definition, the "baby boom".
Here's the breakdown of generations I found. The Lost generation 1883-1900, The Greatest Generation 1901-1927, The Silent generation 1928-1945, Baby Boomer Generation, 1946-1964, Generation X 1965-1980, Millenials 1981-1996, Generation Z 1997-2012, Generation Alpha 2012-present.
Many people think that 1969 was "the Summer of Love," but it was really the end of the "hippy movement," and much more along the lines of the Rolling Stones concert at Altamont Raceway, also in 1969.

Yeah, the whole allegory kind of requires all three songs to make sense. The dogs are the aggressors, the tools of the pigs who use violence and cunning to screw the sheep and each other over, to keep the infighting in the lower classes happening while the pigs live happily off the backs of the working classes. The dogs are every bit as much a victim as the sheep, even as they're tricked into victimizing their fellows ("sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used") and eventually, they're just drowned with a stone once they're not useful to the pigs anymore. THe dogs are the police, the patriots, the propagandizing newsmen, writers, and teachers. They're class traitors who scab and undermine labor movements. They betray their own interests in the hope of table scraps from their "masters," who are only masters because the dogs protect them. You see SO much of the attitude in this song ("you believe at heart everyone's a killer," "no one has a real friend,") in the behavior of politicians, especially center-right and right-wing politicians. Basically, because they have a pessimistic view of human nature, they create an environment where everyone ELSE has to have that view, because they fulfil their own prophecy about the brutal, cut-throat nature of zero-sum social activity.
Akron162 well it seems to be a favourite of lots of fans in the various reaction videos I’ve seen. However, I’m not one of them. For me the best period is Meddle through Wish You Were Here. But on Animals I’d say Pigs is my favourite.
I love this song. It paints a perfect picture of the predators in our society. The con men, the sales men, those who would get ahead in spite of all the suffering they cause. But the reason it's so great is that it shines a little light on how those people were conditioned to be that way. They don't think they are monsters. They are following a rule book in a system that is designed to use them. The sad part is that the eventual suffering comes down on them ten fold and they are left wondering where it all went wrong.
This songs has so many flips and detours and such insane production to go along with some of the heaviest lyrics ever written. Right up there with "Echoes", a dark counterpart maybe
I appreciate what Vin is trying to say when comparing the "We're just animals" world view to a lion eating a gazelle but the comparison isn't quite correct. The morality derived from an animalistic view of humans is the morality of the pack. Killing a gazelle is like slaughtering livestock, murder is more akin to if a lion went and killed another lion in their pack which in the animal world is also generally frowned upon. And while two different packs of lions might fight each other that is similar to war. As humans we protect those around us and we attack those that are different which is a very similar morality to animals. We are a tribe/pack based animal. But that's just my two cents.
I would argue that animals especially pack animals have established views on what is right and what is wrong creating a moral framework for them thus by definition making them moral agents. And what I believe is that since humans are merely intelligent animals we can compare ourselves to animals around us to see where our own moral framework may have evolved from.
We are instinct driven replication bots just like any other animals. We just hide behind the illusion of a self. Our brains trick us to feel so self important.
That "cancer" verse is so often misunderstood, what he's saying is inspite of all your money and success and no matter where you go, you'll suffer the same fate as us all, except for your misdeeds you'll be alone.
A young man in good condition, seeking to find himself, walks through obscure paths, influenced by doubtful friendships, experiences the adventures and blunders inherent in the fascination of being young. Then, each one follows the path they chose until they met again in a fatal outcome that shows the reality of human relationships, which are partly confused with the life story of many of us.
Nice one u guys, enjoyed the debate & analysis. A pink floyd masterpiece & my favourite PF song, despite being a somewhat uncomfortable listen. All the more remarkable! I understand Sori struggling with it. I too found it very difficult when i first heard it. I know all their songs now, the great & the beautiful.. but Dogs is my favourite.....
I've been waiting for your reaction to this track for ages! The Animals album concept was loosely based on George Orwell's political fable Animal Farm, the album's lyrics describe various classes in society as different kinds of animals: the predatory dogs, the despotic ruthless pigs, and the "mindless and unquestioning herd" of sheep. Whereas the novella focuses on bolshevism, the album is a critique of capitalism and differs again in that the sheep eventually rise up to overpower the dogs. The album was developed from a collection of unrelated songs into a concept which, in the words of author Glenn Povey, "described the apparent social and moral decay of society, likening the human condition to that of mere animals".
You have to distinguish between true communism and Bolshevism. Look into Proudhon, Bakhunin and Kropotkin, rather than Marx, Lenin and Mao. Bakhunin said: "Freedom without Socialism will lead to privilege and exploitation. Socialism without freedom will lead to slavery and brutality."
It's a sarcastic critique against the kiss-asses that constantly pick on the weaker people (sheep) to achieve their personal goals and appease the ruling class (pigs) who in fact exploit both sheep and dogs. In a nutshell.
I see this song as a metaphor for life. Lying and cheating people i.e. treating people badly builds up over the years and as you get older how you've treated people reflects back on you - no friends, hence "all alone and dying of cancer". The stone represents the burden you've created over the course of your life.
This is my favorite break down so far. Not just cause of the song. I was genuinely invested in the conversation. I love the song, but at some point I forgot that the song was the point of the video. You had a conversation about life, people, morality, and I loved it. Left me thinking, I learned from it, and it had me questioning some of my own beliefs haha. Very intriguing stuff, well done.
Even though I take Pink Floyd's music seriously, it is so hard for me not to think of that hysterical scene from "WKRP in Cincinnati" when Arthur Carlson walks in on Johnny Fever as he is playing the section when the dogs are barking. Such a classic show. That clip is worth searching for on YT.
I'm in my 60's.When Pink Floyd would put out a new album we would run out to the record store and buy it and either take it home or to a friends place and get our Happy on and get into it.Animals to me is the album..the lyrics and the sound...just damn.
the pigs are at the top of the economic food chain, the dogs do the pigs bidding and the sheep are the rest of us, doing all the menial work that keeps the machine working, only loosly based on Orwells' novel
This song was supposed to be on the WYWH album. At the time it was called "You've Got To Be Crazy". Roger nixed that and refashioned the song along with "Raving and Drooling" ("Sheep"), into the concept album that is the Animals album. Yep, This was a take off from Orwells, Animal Farm. When a dog's usefulness is done, Jones ties a brick around their neck and drowns them in the nearest pond.
About 10 seconds into the song I knew Sori wasn't going to like this song, she looked like she wasn't in the mood to do any recording before the song even started...oh no 17:00 minutes this going to be torture...that was the energy I got from her. 5 out of 10👎👎
I realize that you're saying that she started off not liking the song before the first note had been played, I get it, but I have to say that I find it refreshing that Sori didn't care for this song and said so. There are a lot of people doing reactions on UA-cam and all I see is them reacting to every song they hear as if it's the best song ever written, so much smoke blown up my ass my insides must look like beef jerky... not every song heard can possibly be the best song ever. With Vin and Sori I've seen them dislike a few songs so I'm more likely to believe them when they do like a song.
Off topic, but, with the passing, today, of a true legend, in rock music, I think it would be cool, and fun, to do some reactions to some of Little Richard's best songs. Give it a shot!
Animals is my favorite Pink Floyd album. It wasn't originally, but the more I listened to it over the years since its release, the higher it climbed. When I moved from NY to FL a couple of years ago I drove down with only my Pink Floyd CDs for the trip. By the end of those 2 days Animals had finally taken my top Floyd spot. Over the years each of the songs on this album have been my favorite from it. Dogs spent a good chunk of time as my favorite from this album. But today, Sheep is my favorite. Animals is one of those albums that needs a complete listen to to really take it all in properly. If you work your way through these songs individually I'd recommend you take the time to give the whole album an uninterrupted listen to, even if on your own time.
The irony here is that you view everything in a very binary way as you try to force everyone into your rigid categories. You have the capacity to do better but you persistently default back to your religious frames and your isms. I'm an atheist and my values are not far different than yours yet, you pat yourself on the back as you credit your religion, and yourself by association as the source of all moral wisdom. Atheists are at least as moral as any religious group, including yours.
For me this song was always about a person who gave their life completely to people who would always be willing to stab them in the back to further their own needs. He feels conflicted about adopting their nature in order to fit in and be part of 'the pack', but as he reaches the end of he life he regrets doing so, ending up alone with no one he can truly trust.
it's funny how you people actually pay these guys to react to exceptionally good music, if anything, they should be paying you guys for introducing them to good music. That too Dogs from Floyd, I hope you get the irony.
best floyd album. roger waters conceived album from animal farm. Gilmour's guitar work in this song is brilliant. Waters tends to write dark & gloomy songs like Geezer Butler of sabbath.
This was Pink Floyd going darker and some PF fans of Dark Side and Wish albums were not happy with this Animals album. So, Sori’s reaction wasn’t completely uncommon. Guys tended to like it more than gals.
I read somewhere that David Gilmour played all guitar tracks including the base guitar on the studio album except the acoustic guitar. Roger played the acoustic guitar. The tracks were on separate channels and they combined the tracks in the studio. So the guitar duet was David Gilmour on the album. When they went on tour, they took Whitey Ford of Everlast with them to do the guitar duet with Gilmour.
Sori, the Stone part was intentional. In UK, people used to put dogs down by tying them to a stone and through them in the ocean. Hence the song name “Dogs” and the echo of stone turns into howling of a dog. The song also combines 4 genre of music. Blues Rock, Alt Rock, Prog Rock & Experimental Rock. It’s a masterpiece and many considered this as Pink Floyd’s magnum opus.
Rod Jubair still not convinced, and it certainly wouldn’t be a tradition. I’m not saying someone might have done it but it certainly wasn’t a tradition.
Never doubt over thought when analysing Pink Floyd, Roger had every thought covered! Everything had symbolism, double meaning, cutting political commentary. As deep as you can go in reaction, hes already gone deeper

Dogs, is one of the human societal classes. A type of person who cares about nobody but themselves, never trusting anyone, and fully aware of the fight in life. Life trained him to be this way (dog eat dog) (fitted with collar and chain). You become what you believe you are suppose (trained) to be, then realization sets in late in life. When you are alone, being dragged down by the bad blood that has turned to stone.
Well it could be the meaning of this album as: The world owned by the pigs Ruled by the dogs And the sheep's is us "the people" One of the greatest album by Pink Floyd that have a deep dark meaning
I can sympathize with Sori. I love Floyd's extended, weird craziness. It's part of the journey. But it's not everybody's "thing." Sori seemed happier with the song before that several minutes long latter part. Lyrics are pretty profound by almost any standards.
"Sheep" is my fav off this album, but yeah, all of them are good... and all songs were loosely based on Animal Farm indeed, as far as I know. Good album, though I wouldn't say it's their best.
Dogs is from Animals 1977. Dogs, Sheep and Pigs. And a short Pigs on the wing. It is actually about human characters. Shine on you Crazy Diamond is from Wish You We’re Here 1975 and the album contains basically four songs. Dark Side of the Moon is from 1973.
You are right about Animal Farm, The whole album is based on Animal Farm, pretty much separating the animals into classes into societies in our world. Dogs are like cut throat businessmen, Pigs are the the Leaders in Governments and Corporation, the rich pretty much. And the sheep are pretty self explanatory.

I saw the notificaton, I came as fast as I can
Yeah, that song took me by surprise, have to say. Had been hooked ever since.
That "cancer" verse is so often misunderstood, what he's saying is inspite of all your money and success and no matter where you go, you'll suffer the same fate as us all, except for your misdeeds you'll be alone.
You guys should react to Echoes from Meddle it's great song in lyrics and on instrumental
Fabrício Iizuka THIS PLEASE
live from pompéi of course......
Only to be even more bored? No thanks. I think that Floyd are not into their field of interest (particularly for Sori)
......no, Sori reacts good to "Hight hopes, Confortably numb and dark side of the moon album"...... Ok she disliked this one, .......Pity!
The Pompeii version is much better although it is divided into 2 parts. And you've got to actually see the Original Pink Floyd Band.
Pink Floyd - Pigs (Three Different Ones)! The live Roger Waters version is pretty controversial.
He says pigs caused coronavirus
@Mr D watch it has to do with Trump
@Mr D It's very anti-Trump.
@Michael Anderson he's very anti government not just Trump listen to his songs he's been like that since the 70s
Live in México City¡
A young man in good condition, seeking to find himself, walks through obscure paths, influenced by doubtful friendships, experiences the adventures and blunders inherent in the fascination of being young. Then, each one follows the path they chose until they met again in a fatal outcome that shows the reality of human relationships, which are partly confused with the life story of many of us.
That solo at 8:31 is probably my favorite Pink Floyd guitar solo. Ever single time I get goosebumps ❤️
Animals my favorite Pink Floyd album. Man all those albums in the 70s, so good. Good call James.
The greatest rock song of all time.
I loved George Orwell's Animal Farm and Waters spin on the story is just as great. Amazing album.
Animals is the most underrated Pink Floyd album. IMO
Perfect and concise explanation of this album. Well done. 👍🏻
You have to distinguish between true communism and Bolshevism. Look into Proudhon, Bakhunin and Kropotkin, rather than Marx, Lenin and Mao.
Bakhunin said: "Freedom without Socialism will lead to privilege and exploitation. Socialism without freedom will lead to slavery and brutality."
still waiting for " sorrow " from the pulse concert, that set of solos will put " Kurt " back on planet earth
The stone into howl transition always gives me the chills. Such a good song
It's a sarcastic critique against the kiss-asses that constantly pick on the weaker people (sheep) to achieve their personal goals and appease the ruling class (pigs) who in fact exploit both sheep and dogs. In a nutshell.
I like how you both have intelligent comments about the music vs some of the other channels I’ve came across
I see this song as a metaphor for life. Lying and cheating people i.e. treating people badly builds up over the years and as you get older how you've treated people reflects back on you - no friends, hence "all alone and dying of cancer". The stone represents the burden you've created over the course of your life.
Powerful song! Read between the lines, Strong messages.
$125 bucks for a frigging song request? You put Televangelist snake oil salesmen to shame
Well said.
They got too many requests when it was 75
Supply and demand, they love capitalism
I believe I paid less for my Roger Waters ticket to see him live.
It’s disgusting how they profiteer like that from other people’s art
One of my favorite songs. This album is great, but Dark Side of the Moon is a masterpiece.
Sori is off .... this album is amazing and Gilmour’s guitar work here is amazing.
Ya gotta love how Dave Gilmer speaks his own verses with that solo...wow
Gilmer?

The album Animals was pigs- polititians, dogs- businessman, sheep- most of us! Roger based it off the George Orwell book Animals! You were on point 👍
Thanks. I'll see if I can find it. I loved that sitcom, especially "I swear, I thought Turkeys could fly".
Do I hear dogs barking on this thing? I do!
I'm in my 60's.When Pink Floyd would put out a new album we would run out to the record store and buy it and either take it home or to a friends place and get our Happy on and get into it.Animals to me is the album..the lyrics and the sound...just damn.
the pigs are at the top of the economic food chain, the dogs do the pigs bidding and the sheep are the rest of us, doing all the menial work that keeps the machine working, only loosly based on Orwells' novel
this album is a must for any Pink Floyd fan, it has become my favorite over the years.
This reaction proves listening to any song off of animals is like dropping acid
So many transitions in this tune & an absolutely brilliant piece of production
No album called shine on, that’s Wish you were here
This song was supposed to be on the WYWH album.
That seems to be her normal state of mind on most reactions.
Yes I got that vibe from the start after a while I thought she was gonna walk out , I’d still give it one thought if she lost a bit of weight.
Amazing that this is pre-digital.. valve synths, literal looped cut out samples.... my fave Floyd Album along with Meddle
Off topic, but, with the passing, today, of a true legend, in rock music, I think it would be cool, and fun, to do some reactions to some of Little Richard's best songs.
Give it a shot!
Then how about some Kraftwerk too ? I doubt these 2 morons ever heard of Little Richard or Kraftwerk anyway.
@@cosmin98684 Why are you even here? Dump the hate, or move on. 😉
RIP Little Richard.
I wasn't aware of his passing.
Yep the people who pay should listen to the song sheep from this album
best floyd album. roger waters conceived album from animal farm.
Whoa!!
Rod Jubair well I’ve lived in the Uk for 50 years and I’ve never heard of that before. Not sure I believe it
HappyAitch It a tradition that happened after world war one. It was cheaper to put down a sick dog by throwing them in the ocean
Yeah.ok..but the stone is metaphorical
Rod Jubair still not convinced, and it certainly wouldn’t be a tradition. I’m not saying someone might have done it but it certainly wasn’t a tradition.
Morality is what you do when no-one else is looking. Great reaction guys :)
Never doubt over thought when analysing Pink Floyd, Roger had every thought covered! Everything had symbolism, double meaning, cutting political commentary. As deep as you can go in reaction, hes already gone deeper
Yeah, I always felt his songs could be interpreted on at least 3 different levels and that it was by design.
@@jeffmurray1681 good art can mean different things to different people. We bring our world view to our interpretation of art.
i'm so jealous of y'all listening to it for the first time
"Pigs on the wings" from this album was inspired in the ex wife de Waters...when she says, when we come back? Waters answer: When the pigs have wings.
Something about the depth of the lyrics that ring true to me every time I hear something by these guys. Unbeatable in my book...
Dark Side of the Moon is always everyones go to. But I've always thought that this was Roger Waters at his bitter, brilliant best.
you peeps are the only ones i know of that actually have the gumption to react to Echoes and DOGS.. much respect to do what many will not.. .. cute couple too btw thanks for listening to the music i grew up with even tho it was not my own era.. i am in my 40s so close..again.. cool
You should listen Sheep !! The best song in this album !!
More pink Floyd reactions guys
Well it could be the meaning of this album as:
The world owned by the pigs
Ruled by the dogs
And the sheep's is us "the people"
One of the greatest album by Pink Floyd that have a deep dark meaning
You've got "Dogs" down.... now you need "Pigs" 😎🤑🤓
All songs are equal, but some songs are more equal than others.
I can sympathize with Sori. I love Floyd's extended, weird craziness. It's part of the journey. But it's not everybody's "thing." Sori seemed happier with the song before that several minutes long latter part. Lyrics are pretty profound by almost any standards.
Yeah, you can tell that she had some WTF moments. 😄
This is my favorite song but I think they could have cut that quiet interlude, or intermission as I call it, in half.
Favorite song from my favorite Floyd album! Gilmores guitar work and the song concept. Top notch!
"Sheep" is my fav off this album, but yeah, all of them are good... and all songs were loosely based on Animal Farm indeed, as far as I know. Good album, though I wouldn't say it's their best.
Sheep is so tragic. People trapped in their minds to serve the system, with a mere whisper of a dream for freedom from control they don't understand.
One of Floyd’s absolute masterpieces! Please do Pigs and Sheep too! You won’t be disappointed! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Please do Pink Floyd 'Echoes part 1 and 2' from live at pompeii
Flosyd yes from Pompeii!
Do the studio version
would be good, but someone has to pay them $125 for that. no thanks.
Pay $125? Why? just enjoy it
@@jamescotner2459 to request a song they want $125.
Dogs is from Animals 1977. Dogs, Sheep and Pigs. And a short Pigs on the wing. It is actually about human characters. Shine on you Crazy Diamond is from Wish You We’re Here 1975 and the album contains basically four songs. Dark Side of the Moon is from 1973.
canada wish you react to SARROW from pulse 94 (so intence and relaxing)
That is one of my favorite album by pink floyd!....damn good...
Animals was a commentary on the 70's politics in England.... I guess you had to be there...
What a classic. My favorite album from them!
Echoes live Pompeii
You are right about Animal Farm, The whole album is based on Animal Farm, pretty much separating the animals into classes into societies in our world. Dogs are like cut throat businessmen, Pigs are the the Leaders in Governments and Corporation, the rich pretty much. And the sheep are pretty self explanatory.
