Two amazing metal queens and wonderful friends from The Netherlands. I got to see Pregnant Floor with Nightwish in Gelsenkirchen, Germany in June and WOW it was such a DeVine experience 🤓🤓🤓
This song is an original by Epica, it's Simone's song to sing and she was able to do it alone just fine. Floor was a guest because this was Epica's Ten Year anniversary, which is also why they had the orchestra; that's definitely not a normal thing for them to do. BUT, I am very happy that Floor was there to help Simone out when this concert happened. Simone was about four months pregnant and the baby was of course pushing on organs; Simone was not used to having pressure on her lungs from those angles while she would sing. And besides that, imagine, Simone was four months pregnant, weighed at least twenty pounds (about 9 kilos) more than she normally would at her fighting weight, wore heels the entire time the concert went on and it lasted THREE HOURS on stage! She must have been WIPED OUT that night, I bet she could barely get out of bed the next morning!
Retrospect was their 10th anniversary show. It was a 3 hour show which had just about everything. Simone was 3 months pregnant at the time. Therion was originally a black metal band that collapsed in 1993 and only consisted of the Swede Christofer Johnsson. He turns them into probably the first real symphonic metal band. Nevertheless, they are not considered the founders of symphonic metal because Nightwish and Within Temptation were the role models. Therion remained an exotic with audible black metal elements. The others were season players for a long time. It wasn't until around 2009 that it had permanent members again. There current single: THERION - Twilight Of The Gods (Official Video) | Napalm Records The combination of rock / metal and classical was always there. But it wasn't until the end of the 1990s that this became a subgenre in metal, because only then did bands emerge that permanently and successfully developed their own style.
Another song with Floor and Simone is "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" - if you haven't seen it before. Also, Epica took their name from a Kamelot album title. Simone is married to the keyboard player from Kamelot, Oliver Palotai. Mark Jansen, no blood-relation to Floor, was the founder of Epica and was also in Floor's band After Forever- he's the guy who growled out "Floor Jansen" at the end of this video.
So you like Floor and Simone? Maybe have a look at Ayreon. Both of them have been part of that project, as is Floor's sister and too many other well known artists to list here. If you want to get a look at who was at the 2017 shows, take a look at The Eye of Ra. It was the last encore to the show and has all the artists come on stage. Only half of the 11 minute video is the song, don't worry. Rest is credits. Video title: Ayreon - The Eye of Ra (Star One) / Credits (Universe) LYRICS IN SUBS (no link, since comment with link got deleted) If you prefer a studio recording with some background information, look into The Day That The World Breaks Down. It is a longer one but features 11 singers and has information in the form of text pop-ups, speaking about recording, the artists and the story of the album. Video title: Ayreon - The Eye of Ra (Star One) / Credits (Universe) LYRICS IN SUBS Ayreon is definitely worth a look if you like Nightwish and Epica. The current producer for Epica, Joost van den Brook, is part of Ayreon, too. He does keys and is the co producer of the live shows. You might see several familiar faces there.. ;-) Bonus with Ayreon: Arjen supports the reaction community and there should be no copryright issues. If anything comes up, just message him, he'll help.
Yes!!! Epica is the 2nd deeeeep rabbit hole next to NW. 😂 Stay on this road!!! And please make a short Bus stop for Blind Guardian "The Bard's Song and Valhalla" Wacken 2016. It is the HYMN of Metal. You will love it ❤🎉😂
Your end to end, ear to ear smile says it all, with this song. I also ADORE heavy music combined with orchestral and choral music, the two genres meld beautifully. Always have. When done well, the effect is utterly exhilarating. You can actually trace the origins of that back to 1969, when Deep Purple did 'Concerto for Group and Orchestra'. That was the start of my love affair with all things heavy and symphonic....
I have the same love affair... As a big fan of The Alan Parsons Project orchestrations, 6 years ago I started for searching more music in this style....Nowdays I have over 100 cds of rock/metal albums with orchestra...I love it!x
Hi, you just discovered one of the most unique and original bands in the world, EPICA are simply amazing 🙃 here is a performance from earlier this year in Amsterdam one of their older songs but an incredible new performance: EPICA - Unleashed (Live At The AFAS Live)
Worth recognising that there is a significant difference between conventional metal bands incorporating an orchestral component as a twist on their normal tracks and when a symphonic band that routinely threads orchestral and metal elements (normally as an orchestral track) adds a live orchestra. When Epica draws on an orchestra, as they did in this Retrospect concert, it adds a live element to the music that already includes an orchestra, and it is so much more for that than just a schtick thing done for coolness.
SO..... Epica... First: Simone Simons + Floor Jansen = POWER COMBO Epica is Epic (well deserved name for the band). Simone and Floor are good friends (they are both Dutch) and both classically trained . WHEN Epica hit hard, they are heavier than Nightwish. But they also have some really beautiful, soft and tender ballads. And they often ”cover themselves” in completely different styles (jazz, Irish folk, klezmer…). Epica fan's are Epicans . NWSU/FloorFan/Epican 🤘😎🤘.
Epica was founded by guitarist Mark Jansen (no relative of Floor) as Sahara Dust in 2002 after leaving After Forever, Floor's first band. For more Floor you should check out Nightwish, Ayreon, Floor & Henk Poort's Phantom of the Opera, her O Mio Babbino Caro and her solo work.
O yes!!! You definitely have to discover Ayreon. Up to 25 of the very best worldwide singers combining their talent in the same project with an insanely talented band. All in honour of the composer Arjen Lucassen. Floor and Simone, as is Anneke van Giersbergen, Marcela Bovio and Irene Jansen ( sister from) are amongst the regular artists involved. "Regular" as in absolutely not regular. Everyone is topnotch!!! Do I have to say more....... The Pinnacle of prog- metal- rock music. And they all LOVE it!!!!
The first orchestrated rock I ever encountered was back in 1973 - The band was called Caravan, and they teamed up with The New Symphonia for a concert at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane. Sadly the concert was not filmed, but was released on vinyl with a CD release years later. If you can cope with listening to the recording, without video, you will adore the track "For Richard".
Since you mentioned Therion, I thought I'd leave a possible suggestion for a reaction video: THERION - Birth of Venus Illegitima (Live In Poland) (OFFICIAL LIVE)
You must see their rendition of Stabat Mater Dolorosa from the same show. Straight-up classical hymn composed by Giovanni Pergolesi in 1736. Floor and Simone brought the entire hall to reverent silence with this one. You will both get chills.
For best live Epica, anything from these concerts: 2006 - Live at Paradiso (except "Consign to Oblivion"" 2013 - Retrospect 10th anniversary 2017 - Live at the Zenith (only 3 songs available so far) 2021 - Omega Alive
Hi Ash & Dave I'm so glad, that Ash enjoyed it I absolutely adore both Epica and Nightwish, also both Floor and Simone. Any of the video's from the same concert the Retrospect 10th anniversary, eg; unleashed, storm the sorrow and obsessive devotion. Then there's Consigne to Oblivion live at the zenith Paris. Beyond the matrix live at the AFAS. Hope you'll enjoy them, as much as I do.
I suggested this song anytime you guys reacted to Nightwish, and I knew Ash would love it. Glad you guys were able to react to it. Now Ash needs to see the heavier side of Epica. maybe Cosign to Oblivion live?
Deep Purple did a full record with an orchestra back in the early 70's. There was also some orchestra involved in some of the Moody Blues late 60's records. way before you two were born. Therion is one of the founders of the symphonic metal genre. I think?
there are Haggard and Blind Guardian also mentioned as some "pathfinders", then Nightwish, WT, Edenbridge (nobody seems to remmember them), Epica and finally ton of newer symph metal bands
I hope you keep going with Epica! There's so much excellent material from them! I suggest the song "The Skeleton Key," the Omega Alive version, for a taste over their more proggy material. When you look at things from Omega Alive, it might look like music videos, but they were recorded and filmed live in studio during the pandemic, so it's live.
Epica was formed by Mark Jansen after he left After Forever ( where Floor was vocalist)...and Simone Simons who is vocalist of Epica was Mark' s girlfriend at the time
if you guys want to see something very epic and massive, then check out Epica - Consign to oblivion (live in Zenith), but keep in mind, there will be real metal 😈
EPICA ,Song "Cry for the Moon" spectacular.Denouncement song, written and composed to denounce the abuse of children, committed by ecclesiastics, yes, those who are in the churches.
Please set some more Epica in front of Ash, I’m certain that she will love it. Would suggest ‘Unleashed’ from this same concert. I suspect Simone could make a mean sponge cake as well as she is brilliant at everything else.
If you like metalbands and orchestra then check out the 3rd dutch symphonic metalqueen Sharon and her band Within Temptation. Check out The Promise. Within Temptation - The Promise (live from Black Symphony) 7:52
Dude you mentioned Therion. PLEASE react to Therion - Ginnungagap and Grand Finale live. It's one video. People will want to listen. Epic and Therion best in the genre 😍
Was about to comment the usual Floor superlatives, and also for Simone too but to be fair Dave it looks like you are doing just fine in the better half department. Respectfully! And if you like the Orchestral stuff with metal then listen/watch Dimmu Borgir - Gateways. Im sure you probably have already but just in case you missed it! Also features another amazing female vocalist in Agnete from the bands Djerv and Animal Alpha. She has a superb voice! Thanks for the video guys, you seen like a sweet couple!
The earliest I know of is Deep Purple who recorded a 'Concerto for group and Orchestra' in 1969 composed by keyboard player Jon Lord. If you want a creepy Halloween symphonic goth metal sound, listen to dutch band Blackbriar 'Weakness and Lust'.
I love your enthusiasm, it is really a blessing this concert was recorded and put on UA-cam, orchestra, choir, band and two amazing vocalists. Who could ask for more. Besides, I prefer Masterchef Australia to the British Bake Off, even if I do not like any fish food. The best food I tasted in London were curry's.
I wish we had the world, of toumas. With all of epica to work with, obviously floor. Marko, and that full up symphony…imagine what he could do with 3-4 guitars, 2 bass, Simone and floor and Marko. Himself, the other keyboardist and two insane drummers…no one would/could ever top what he came up with. Plus it’s be nothing valkyries. the whole time from those two amazing singers. Of they ever did that, just would have to call the overall group operation gotterdamerung. As that’s what it’d bring about.
And... love your reactions!! Just a heads up: at this concert it was not Floor from Nightwish (yet)... Those in the audience knew Floor from her band ReVamp or After Forever or Ayreon/Star One (and the occasional tele performance)
Actually……. It was Floor, guest vocalist for Nightwish. This was March of 2013, Floor joined Nightwish October 1, 2012. Note that her outfit is the same one from the first half of Wacken.
@@northof4912 Floor indeed joined Nightwish as a guest singer in 2012. This show was in the Netherlands - where Floor was not yet known as a future member of Nightwish. Wacken 2013 was in August which is after this show as is her membership of Nightwish in October. And regarding the outfit of Wacken; well she wore that at least once before on stage as you can see 😁
Hi guys! Can you listen Dan Vasc? He is brazilian metal singer. He sing power metal, synfonic metal and opera. Dan sing The Witcher's songs (metal version), Nightwish, Sabaton, Manowar, ... Listen Bring Me To Life and Black Wind Fire and Steel, feat Luis Mariutti (guitar bass). Is insane. Thanks! ❤ Rio-Brazil
I don't understand why all people only talk about how brilliant Simone and Floor are? Agree, they are, but Épica is a band... each and every one of the members is brilliant... Mark, in addition to being the leader and founder, is the greatest mastermind of the band, Coen is an excellent arranger, the guitar Isaac is majestic, Rob on bass is so talented and what can we say about Ariën? It's a beast... overall they are all super talented...
because everyone is talking about this song because of Floor. Epica should be watched separately, because it is a whole Universe. But for metalheads of course
@@wildhoney126 Everyone decides who to admire and is free to do so... for me, Mark's talent at its maximum splendor is superior to that of the floor and Simone... Mark founded Epica no Simone, and Mark also co-founded After Forever, no Floor. ..
2 of the 4 Goddess's, Floor Jansen, Simone Simmons, now you have to listen to the others, Anneke van Giersbergen and Marcela Bovio, or save time and react to Ayreon, there you will all four.

And you will be surprised which famous singers you will see in this (No spoiler :) And then Ayreon Live with "Everybody dies" here too there is a surprise at the end!
Ceck out some more Epica (or Sabaton or VoicePlay or Saltatio Mortis there are so many good bands out there) Thank you and greetings from NW-Army-Germany and SabatonFan ❤🔥
If you chose to do therion. Do it on camera, i love therion. I had all their albums and i've seen a few reactions to them. They seem to go down well.😊😊😁
Heya! Great song but not in the top 20 of best Epica songs. This is usually recommended by Floor fans, not by Epica fans. Here are at least three suggestions for your next reactions: EPICA - Unleashed (Live at the AFAS Live) EPICA - The Essence of Silence (Official Live) EPICA - The Obsessive Devotion (Official Live)
Moment I saw the title of the video I thought Ash is gonna love this 😀 Couple of suggestions, firstly Epica, you need to check out "Rivers" featuring Apocalyptica live. Simone's voice on that is just beautiful. Also on the subject of Therion, maybe try reacting to their version of "Summer night city" (yes, the ABBA song), live at Hellfest. Great reaction guys 😊
I can't put my finger on it, but something with Epica doesn't quite gel with me. Simone is obviously an incredibly good singer, and the band are obviously very talented, but their music just doesn't hit the same spot with me as Nightwish does with Floor Jansen.
Apart from the age difference, they lived in different towns and never went to the same schools. Floor visited Simone a few times in Germany, that's it.
Simone is 4 years younger than Floor, which alone makes the roommates/studying together thing very unlikely. I don't know the origins of this rumour, but I have no doubt that it will never die.
from the same concert: "Stabat Mater Dolorosa: Simone and Floor
Yes, please! :)
Simone and Floor are not only Dutch.
They've also been friends for a long time.
Greetings from the Netherlands.
They had the same vocal coach too!
I believe Floor helped Simone with her soprano voice? Is that right?
This was Epica's 10th anniversary show hence the orchestra
Two amazing metal queens and wonderful friends from The Netherlands. I got to see Pregnant Floor with Nightwish in Gelsenkirchen, Germany in June and WOW it was such a DeVine experience 🤓🤓🤓
And Simone was pregnant during this 3 hour concert
Yep, she was 😊
After this concert she did another 5 shows before she stopped to prepare to be a mom.
She must have been WIPED OUT that night, I bet she could barely get out of bed the next morning!

here is a performance from earlier this year in Amsterdam one of their older songs but an incredible new performance:
EPICA - Unleashed (Live At The AFAS Live)
Simone Simons is pregnant here - That child is around 10 years old now. This show was in March 2013.
Another symphonic Metal band that have been around since the mid 90's (I think '94 but not sure), is Within Temptation.

I suggest the song "The Skeleton Key," the Omega Alive version, for a taste over their more proggy material.

Something like this already exists. It's called Ayreon, check it out.
And... love your reactions!!
And regarding the outfit of Wacken; well she wore that at least once before on stage as you can see 😁
@hermenw.huiskamp8555 Yes, if you were specifying the Netherlands, but she wasn't particularly well known there at any time prior to Beste Zangers.
Floor had her 1st child+ Simone was3-4months pregnant/ not bad-yes?! Floor was pregnant on Wacken!3-4months!/// Ladypower!❤
Mark founded Epica no Simone, and Mark also co-founded After Forever, no Floor. ..
If you want her to listen to Therion a good song is Sodom and Gomorra Live
I’m not a great Thereon fan but i like there [most] songs.
wonders when ash is going to be introduced to Within Temptation as well
you MUST watch 15jr Emma Kok - Voila !
Floor is mother earth, ..... I do believe.......
You must watch Stabat Mater Delarosa from this concert before exploring more Epica.
2 of the 4 Goddess's, Floor Jansen, Simone Simmons, now you have to listen to the others, Anneke van Giersbergen and Marcela Bovio, or save time and react to Ayreon, there you will all four.
The lady with the red hair 🤣🤣

Thank you and greetings from NW-Army-Germany and SabatonFan ❤🔥
That's what she said....
More epica please! I recomment the 'kingdom of heaven trilogy'. Kick a** songs.
Epica allready exists a long time
Therion is great. It might not get that many views, but then again it is your responsibility to (at least try to) educate the public.
WOW, really liked that
Sancta Terra = "Sacred Ground ( or land )" in Latin........shoutout to the choir........
Next reaction: NIGHTWISH - The Phantom Of The Opera (OFFICIAL LIVE)
If you chose to do therion. Do it on camera, i love therion. I had all their albums and i've seen a few reactions to them. They seem to go down well.😊😊😁
Tasha is going to win the bake-off
8:01 don't be upset if you can't understand the lyrics, we mortals can't understand the language of angels
No problem, just a suggestion.
Please go to the eye doctor! 😩
Heya! Great song but not in the top 20 of best Epica songs. This is usually recommended by Floor fans, not by Epica fans.
Here are at least three suggestions for your next reactions:
EPICA - Unleashed (Live at the AFAS Live)
EPICA - The Essence of Silence (Official Live)
EPICA - The Obsessive Devotion (Official Live)
You need to go right back to Deep Purple and the London Philharmonic
Need to fire up some Epica....
Moment I saw the title of the video I thought Ash is gonna love this 😀
Couple of suggestions, firstly Epica, you need to check out "Rivers" featuring Apocalyptica live. Simone's voice on that is just beautiful.
Also on the subject of Therion, maybe try reacting to their version of "Summer night city" (yes, the ABBA song), live at Hellfest.
Great reaction guys 😊
🤗🍒🤘🏻😘
I can't put my finger on it, but something with Epica doesn't quite gel with me. Simone is obviously an incredibly good singer, and the band are obviously very talented, but their music just doesn't hit the same spot with me as Nightwish does with Floor Jansen.
these two godesses use to be roommates in college !!
You got the two goddesses part right. The rest not so much. They weren't in college and they have never been roommates. Cheers!
@@BrendonChase_2015 I have to correct you, because they both went to the conservatory and shared a room there.
They were never roommates.
Someone even asked Simone on her Patreon if they ever were roommates with Floor and she said "no, never".
Simone and floor are best frends Simone is in the Metall Seane Floors liddel Sister listen to Epica and you know wat i mean
Wat en sukel 😅
Sukkel is iemand die het niet eens kan spellen...
Wat een slecht Nederlands!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
