    She’s the perfect example of a future “Why I’m no longer vegan” UA-camr. I’m not familiar with her videos but she does seem like a sweet, down to earth person. I hope she gets more solid guidance on how to eat successfully on a vegan diet so she can avoid any issues in the future.

      @haileighhouser5686 5 років тому +111

      So I do watch her videos so I thought I’d chime in. She is not actually a vegan (unless she’s made a recent change that I missed). She just eats mostly vegan. She does see her doctor routinely because she has such a lower body fat percentage and she has talked in the past about how she’s been insecure about it as a kidand has tried to bulk up but really can’t. Definitely misguided on some of her claims, but actively speaks out against hyper dieting, but clearly doesn’t recognize that the “healthy” options she does is part of diet culture. Definitely a great example of how diet culture disguised itself as “health”.

      I kinda get it though. I eat pretty darn instinctivly, but I also almost never feel hungry (my dad and grandma are the same) so my portions tend to shrink over time. And then i shrink. And then i get depressed and have no energy etc. So when i was younger i tracked my calories when I noticed i was slipping to remind myself how much I should actually eat.
      As time whent on i stoped needing it as much, but i still need to check myself so i actually eat enough sometimes, but now I have a clue on how much I should eat.
      I don't think the way she relates to calories ("I have some over so i can eat desert"), but I just wanted to add the angle that if you are underweight (And dont have an ED), it might be a useful tool.

    • @libbyoed5777
      @libbyoed5777 5 років тому +5

      @@juicysatsumabeauty I totally agree with you that the eating and weight is just a symptom of her binge eating disorder and other mental health problems. That’s why I would like to see Abbey talk about it. So many people don’t understand this and give super simplistic, uniformed opinions. I would like to hear Abbeys opinion as a trained professional who can hopefully highlight the complexities, provide some insight and help others understand and hopefully be more compassionate in the future (though realistically I seriously doubt that anything anyone says will change the mind of the haters). I still think it would be a great platform to unpack some of the issues around binge eating disorder though and I know that there are definitely things I could learn. It would be great to hear it from a psychiatrist too, but I would also like to hear it from a dietetic perspective :)

Im never going back, I don't count calories untill the week is over so I can see how I did throughout the week and i only do this once a month if that. And wayyyy too high in the sodium and sugar department.

I was placed on a low FODMAP diet by my gastroenterologist, tried a fully raw diet (which was the worst), tried paleo, and tried keto, all while dealing with flare-ups from my bowel disease. I have since changed things up and am mostly plant based with a focus on nutrients and making sure I am getting enough protein. I make sure I take my supplements and I haven't had a flare up! I will eventually evolve into eating intuitively, but because of my bowel disease, it's super important for me to keep an eye on my nutrients for the moment. Hi Abby, can you please review Mom of Ten? By the way, thank you for all the great information you give out. It’s really helped me a lot on the plant based life style change my Doctor has really encouraged me to start. Due to health reasons I was needing a change, at first, until listening to you I was struggling a bit. Thank you again for all the help you didn’t know you been giving me. I really would appreciate the review of Mom of 10. I’ve been watching her and I just wondered what you think. Thanks again!!
