I put the camera in a different spot today...windows behind me, no light on my face. Not my fave, we won't do that again LOL
Also, I am only wearing SPF in this video (on my skin, I have eye makeup on) AND I am still pink from sauna 🤷‍♀️. I hadn't planned to film this that day but here we are :))
So apologies it's so bright. IF the sound is also "off" (it's not for me, but it might be for you) I filmed this the same time (within a day) as my video last week and some setting must be on or off. I will have it fixed before my next video. A. talented videographer and editor I am not!

Hi Penn, thanks for another awesome video! I have used 5% minoxidil for over 10 years, when I started experiencing some hair loss. After getting a diagnosis from my derm (it's genetic "pattern balding"), he started me on the 5% FOAM. I am not sure if you tried this, but the foam is a million times easier on the scalp and hair than the liquid. You put it on while hair is WET. Just a couple little blobs down the part line, then I actually turn my head upside down before it "melts" into the scalp and use my fingers to massage it in. That way all my hair is hanging so it's easier to get my fingertips in there to massage it in. I use it once every other day, which is when I wash my hair. Sometimes I use the 5% liquid in between, but I've been using it for so long now that I don't need it every day. I would recommend using it every single day for about the first year, then you can go to every-other or even less. So if you don't wash your hair every day, you would need to use a few drops of the liquid on non-wash days. I have very curly dry hair, and I use a TON of products, but I've never experienced any oiliness or goopiness with this routine. I firmly believe minoxidil has saved my hair. Best of luck, thanks for all of your excellent content, and lots of love! 💜

I am going to be 52 this year. I wish that instead of going to university and getting a degree in 5 languages + economics (super important in the EU to have under your belt), I went to trade school instead, to learn to do hair. Or at least I wish that I had added it on to my degree after uni. Davines BTW is a very good brand! Especially if you have fine hair.

Hi Penny. I use minoxidil only on the temples the night before I wash my hair. I do wash my hair every other morning. I dermarol that area and then apply the minoxidil. I also bought a great heated hair cap. I saw the recommended cap on Tammy's ageless beauty. It comes with a heated cord. Absolutely love it! 21.00 on Amazon. My hair was silky soft! Just thought I would add that if anyone is interested in that one instead of using a blow dryer. She has it posted in her past 2 videos. I like it so well I bought my daughter one as she has bleached hair. Have a great day!

I couldn't stand Minoxidil, either! Glued my hair down, made me look like I hadn't washed my hair in a month, itched and sometimes burned. Not for me! So, my dermatologist suggested low dose oral minoxidil. I take 1.25 gm per day and it works great! It is a low dose (typically, half the dose they give men) and my hair is back. I have had zero side effects from it and it is an inexpensive medicine, if your insurance doesn't cover it. Maybe you should consider oral Minoxidil.

Coco & Eve is new on my radar. Have you tried their new Retinol shampoo & conditioner? I can’t find much research on retinol for hair. Have you? Just got the Epres. Looking forward to trying. I’ve been pre-treating with OGX Miracle oil. Interested to see how they compare. If you lovelies are wanting to try Minoxidil I’ve had amazing success with men’s unscented foam x10 years. I have androgenetic alopecia. I up-end the nozzle and use gentle pressure along all my part lines. It actually gives a bit of a boost to my roots. The key is gentle pressure 😊

@@PENNSMITHSKINCARE I think it depends on the texture of one’s hair. My hair is super dry & I live in an arid climate. I was worried it would weigh my hair down. It’s very fine. OXG actually does the opposite 🤷🏼‍♀️…gives my hair flexibility to hold a wave. I’ve also found that it works much better if I sleep in it overnight versus just putting it on a half an hour before I wash.
Hair texture, loss, density, growth is so unique to each of us. Actually more complex than skin in my opinion. It honestly takes each of us trying a combination of products to find what works depending on climate, stage of life, if we’re coloring etc. Definitely not a one routine fits all but so fun to learn from each other😊💕

I really cannot fathom how these pre-shampoo bonding treatments penetrate the hair, when it is full with dry shampoo, leave in cond., heat protectant and oil for ends + 3 or 4 days natural oil build up? Wont it be better to prewash the hair and then use the Epres, Olaplex #3?

Penn have you tried the liquid minoxidil? SO much better than the mousse. I can use it daily and it actually helps extend the life if my washes... I suspect due to the alcohol content it keeps the grease at bay. I can use it daily and still only wash one a week. It literally leaves NO RESIDUE!! I have been on a hair journey myself due to my mom being sick and perimenopause I was losing so much hair. One thing I found with the pre-ban treatments is they actually work better if I use them after I've done a clarifying shampoo on my hair, I feel like they penetrate better on clean hair. So I personally use them after washing and before my mask or conditioning step. I will add the conditioner over it after it's sat for a bit. It's definitely more time consuming on the back end but I feel like it makes more sense to use it in clean hair. I love the Coco & Eve one too ❤

Made for some big hair then u got an autoimmune disease and it started thinning and breaking. Question is some of these treatments can put a yellow cast on gray hair-any of these do that?

I’ve just been prescribed a combination of minoxidil/finasteride/spirilacton topical. Praying it helps. I experienced horrible hair fall and thinning 5 years ago and suddenly it’s back. All blood work is fine best I know. I’m not sure which is worse the miniaturization of the shaft or the overall hair thinning. I will be giving topical a go but may switch to oral, just cautious of potential side effects.

For me monoxidial has been a game.changer. And I don't see myself stopping. I use the Costco branch foam and work it in as I part down to my roots. I don't brush through intentionally meaning I brush my hair in the morning after applying at night but I don't brush right after applying before bed. Yes it's a little sticky at the roots on wash day but honestly it has worked like dry shampoo for me. I am about a year into growing how my hair which has a lot of grey in it so it's probably dryer. Do I prefer my hair feeling on wash day before I have applied the monoxidial yes but the results I've gotten on my very fine thin and thinning hair is too good not to use. I also make sure I don't over apply. But I can see why people don't want to use it. I think even a few years ago I wouldn't have but since turning 50 it's working for me.

Thank you so very much for the hair video and the updates!!! I always say this... but it's SO true... I adore you and so love and appreciate your videos...
I have been using Epres for about 6 months and have been loving it!! I also use a couple of the La'dor products and love them as well.
I have been following extra close to your advice, products and your updates around hair health and reversing hair loss. It is so wild that you are struggling with hair health... because just looking at you, your hair is long, thick and all around gorgeous... I would never ever guess! Without having some very specific, obvious cause... I believe that high stress and hormones have caused my thinning. I have had some good signs / some good luck with doing ALL of the things... but surely do not have my thick, all grown out head of hair.... the only "drug" I have been using is the revitalash hair foam... which I use about 5x / week. I do not use on day 1 or 2 of freshly washed hair.... for the same reason you were mentioning about minoxidil.
Are you planning to continue to use calecim? From what I read, one needs to continue calecim in a maintenance phase. Are you going to be continuing with a maintenance program? It is very expensive... but I am willing to pay for it if it will work. Without guarantees, would you recommend? Does one need to commit to use this forever?
Also, what are your general shampoo/ conditioner recommendations, aside from the specialty products/ treatments?
Thank you so much ; ))

I don't like using dimethicone or any cone, really. My hair hates protein. I have fine hair, always have. Still some damage from using cheap color from drugstore. Not a fan of alcohol denat, don't understand why it's in product to help damaged hair. My fav leave-in is Blueberry Bliss. From Walmart 😅 I bought a countertop dryer, was less than $50. Davines shampoo, I like, salon swears their products don't use silicones. They do. I completely stopped blow-drying or using curling or flat irons. My hair goes flat easy with so many conditioners. I have to switch shampoo & cond often.

    • @rationale7727
      @rationale7727 7 місяців тому

Water causes hair to swell, lifting the cuticle and damaging it. The more often hair is wet, the more damage, Putting certain oils or conditioner on the hair lengths before shampooing can prevent most of the water penetration into the hair shaft that causes the swelling. Applying pre-shampoo treatment AFTER shampooing, as some commenters here report, is missing all their benefits.

I have fine, thin hair that is brittle from iron deficiency and recently tired Epres. It has made an ENORMOUS difference in my hair, I also started using the Oribe Alchemy line and these two things have transformed by hair. I have tried everything over the last 15 years and nothing made more than a tiny difference, even olaplex and k18. You're only young once, right? 😇 Dyed it all sorts of colors (I am an ash tone) except for unnatural ones, because kids used to say I had the color of "cigarette ash". I hated my color for years. Also straightened and crimped it for years (age 15 to 17) and then permed it because I couldn't deal with it. I had very sleek and smooth straight hair up until puberty hit when it went "wirey" and fluffy and wavy/curly. Today, thanks to the internet, I have learned to deal with it. Profile is day 3, "saggy" hair. LOL

After a hair wash I distribute it all over my scalp & then stimulate my scalp with a nubby hair massager- not sure the exact name of that little device. Finally my hair has thickened back up and is healthy and finally below my shoulders again. I will never use minoxidil topical treatment again. I know people have had success with the pill form. I have used 5% minoxidil (foam) for about 15 years. I have very thin hair so a little goes a long way. I squirt a little in my trouble areas then let the heat from my scalp and fingers break down the foam and then massage those areas. It is gunky if you use so much that it gets too far down your hair strands. I am diligent to apply small amounts so that the foam melts onto my scalp. I only use once per day after washing my hair, which is about every third or fourth day, now that I’m retired. I feel like my hair would be much thinner now at 64 if I hadn’t been using it, but honestly I’m too afraid to find out at this point. 😂
