Perfection In The Midst Of Confusion! - Wood Turning

  • I really didn't have a good idea of how to turn this piece so just decided to let it decide for itself. I ended up with a surprise winged bowl! I decided to keep the bowl part itself simple so it would blend into the sharp edges of the four sides. I think it works! Finished in shellac.

I find a lot of my turnings are loved or hated by different people. So I turn how I like and leave it to the others to love or hate. weirder shape for me is sometimes better, in my mind anyway. Yet again a lovely bowl

It's very pretty. The shape is so much better than a boring round bowl. I get annoyed when turners take an interesting shaped piece and turn it into a boring round bowl. But then I know I can come here and see you do your magic, and then I feel better. Beautiful wood, gorgeous features.

I just love your bowl. Just prior to finding yours we watched a woman turn a red elm bowl. It is such beautiful wood. Wondering if you could do me a favour. On your next you tube would you tell my brother John Safety, Safety Safety. He didn't wait for the wood to stop turning and it hit his hand and cut his finger. 5 stitches later. It wasn't that bad but it will be a good lesson and a laugh. Thanks. My family and I love to watch you create beautiful wood turnings. Cathy

@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop I understand English and speak it... rather badly, however I generally put the subtitles on because it helps me and it makes up for my lack of vocabulary and my lack of speed.
As the subtitles are not always faithful to what you say, I often re-listen to better hear what you are really saying and better watch what you are doing.
One of the many mistakes sometimes quite funny in subtitles is when you speak for example of "crack" and that the voice recognition interprets "crap": it can give quite crisp sentences for someone like me who likes games of words in French or in English.
Several decades ago, I had "paid" my first micro-computer to the company which sold them, by translating into French the numerous technical instructions (use and programming) of these "new" devices (to the time).
Computer technical English has been my daily life for many years since I became a computer scientist and then a computer teacher, but "everyday" conversations are much more difficult for me because I don't practice enough on a daily basis and memory isn't what it used to be lol..
