The airman said, "we can fly deep into enemy territory and blow up anything, anywhere, any time."

When I enlisted in the 1981 we had an unofficial "DUI parking lot" across the road from the main gate. This practice was Air Force wide as far as I know. If you were coming back to base after a night of drinking, you could park, and walk through the gate, and then to your dormitory hassle free. The DUI parking lot was typically pretty full on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. I'm not sure when this practice ended.

Hahaha very true brother- I was posted to Germany for 5 years and it was a real great surprise!
Because the lads couldn’t go home the weekends (and had more fun with the boys) we all built up some amazing friendships and drinking buddies.
We would get twice as hammered than our civvie mates on a Monday evening/ Tuesday morning and smash PT still wankered. The weekends were special, the mischief was brilliant, girls beautiful and fun and we had many different units to bump into (Inf, Arty, Sigs, other Sapper units, Int blokes etc). Usually it’s end up as stand-offish, but when we had more in common than not, it turned into mayhem. Fights could break out, but mostly it was a fight to see who could drink so much without passing out.
Sappers can drink, I’ll tell you! But then, after reposting home, the lads would go to their rooms, play Xbox and close their doors- UK soldiers were never as close or could drink like us!
Drank with a US colonial once in Tower barracks Grafenwohr- we were going through the drinks menu and were downing pints of cocktails. This stocky chap came over to us with two large whiskeys and told us both to stop being fags. We had a great night, loved the yanks in Iraq and love the yanks in a bar- closest allies.
      God bless you all.

@@JamesonsTravels Yes...1991 was a crack down for many of us depending on your CO. I remembered a few times depending on the Marine they would send you to a class to dry out, take rank from you. Any number of things could happen to you. For officers, they were done. During those years I can remember being pulled over for failing to yield at a round about and getting a ticket and yes you paid it off right away.
There was that one dirt bag NCO/Sergeant who had I had to go get out the Jacksonville jail and he eventually ended up falling on his sword on drill field as a result of his infidelity, drinking, and failing to pay his ex-wife back pay in child support. Although he was a three time award for Naval Achievement 🏅 medal, great section chief it caught with him.
Another Marine during my active duty time between period of 1990-1994 was busted for smoking pot. I saw him that afternoon report to the CO and company first sergeant a corporal, that afternoon before we were secured for the day he came back to the office carrying his blouse in his left hand. He went to put it on and on it were Lance Corporal Chevrons. This Marine unfortunately 😞 was a Brown Bagger,a term for a married Marine living in town with a wife and a child. It tore my heart apart to see this; however he did it to himself.
Today whether you are in the Fleet Marine Force,The Reserves, I remembered my first page 11, a counseling statement for putting my hands on a belligerent Lance Corporal as a newly promoted Corporal. That page 11 set a precedent in how I conducted business for the rest of my career after my Battery Gunnery Sergeant,my Comm Chief, gave me a firm verbal reprimand along with that page 11.

Some of my best trainers were marine 0300’s. I also served in the Air Force in the 80’s when the Air Force were following a lot of Army regulations and teachings and was in Kadena AB Okinawa and the Marines that were married was asking how they can join the Air Force. Army guys back then were also trying to go Air Force. We had one guy who left the Army to join the Air Force. I did the OPPOSITE going ARMY in the 90’s and all the branches thought I was NUTS. LOL, me and my platoon was doing TDY in Rammstein, Germany, but we were staying at a small air base in Vilseck (sorry if I butchered those spellings) and the whole platoon minus our platoon Sargent decided to hit the NCO club on the airbase. Our platoon Sargent was a fitness buff that didn't drink or eat anything bad, so he didn't come along. We left the club at 0400 the next morning and we were all hammered, including the 1st Lt. that was in charge of us. Pt formation was 05:30, people were still puking, nobody could stand straight, and the LT was no where to be found. Our platoon Sargent called off PT (people started falling out less than 1/4 mile on the run). To pay us in kind, as we went back to change into our uniforms. He went and got us chow from the mess hall. A big field canister of nothing but eggs. eggs + belly full of beer = bad, but I'm sure he did it to get what alcohol was left in our stomachs out. Right? lol
