    Very late with my comment but here's my story: Live firing training up in the north of Finland, about 40km above Rovaniemi, we are all formed up inside of a trench, firing over the trench at electronic targets from different distances that pop up occasionally. The average temp was between -25° -30°, so the need to unjam your rifle due to moisture turning to ice inside it was frequent, this would always be the cock handle.. One of the motorcycle messengers who was taking part decided it would be a good idea to take his loaded rifle (RK-62) put it butt down, barrel up on the ground and use his foot to kick his handle and cock the gun.. when this was done, his gun AD'd, bullet ricochets off the trench wall in front, flies back and scrapes the side of his friends helmet next to him.
    Needless to say, he wasn't allowed to handle a gun after that for the rest of his service 😅

One guy put the magazines in upside down multiple times throughout his time on the boat. Most of these people I didn’t trust if we ever had an active shooter or something because they sucked, but we needed the watches to be manned whenever we were in port. This is where we are in the Navy now and I’m glad I’m out now. The never ending requirements handed down by big navy are too much to handle and nothing can get done effectively, like training sailors how to properly qualify weapons and force protection scenarios.

    1:10 As a U.S. Army Chemical Officer in the 1980's, I knew the Mission Oriented Protective Posture (MOPP) gear well. The M-17A1 Protective Mask with the plastic head covering was the one seen in the video. The M-17 Mask did not have the Canteen Tube that allowed you to drink without breaking the seal on your mask. The MOPP Gear itself was an activated charcoal-lined uniform that would take any liquid chemical agent and spread it; hopefully, it kept you from getting the full impact of whatever was out there.

  • @Gspotje

    12:04 We had two of our guys killed and one critically wounded in a mortar accident in Mali. The grenade exploded in the tube and the two mortar operators had no chance. The defect appeared to be caused by the fact that the mortar shells were not composed of the same parts. The tail parts, the grenade body, and tube parts differed from each other, while the papers stated that it was one and the same type of grenade. The safety was incorrectly set and must ensure that a grenade cannot explode until the grenade has left the firing tube at least 40 meters. But with the faulty party, that distance was set between 75 centimeters and 10 meters. This was a reason to advise that the batch not be put into use. If the military had followed its own security procedures, the accident would not have happened.

      This is the kind of fun we had with both Americans and other allies who were on joint exercise in Norway. Back then we used G3, so letting foreigners soldiers shoot it from standing position if they are trained only with 5.56mm was often hilarious. Of course there were some who were either perceptive of your forward leaning stance or maybe had experience with sharpshooter or battle rifles of 7.62mm caliber before.
      I must say I do not really miss the G3, but that is probably because I am a designated MG3 gunner in a national guard now. It's greater mass absorbs recoil so well.

      @bjornschilling9872 4 роки тому +2

      @@oditeomnes Yes, recoil of MG3 is really not noticeable (prone and bipod). Furthermore single shot is possible with a bit practice on pulling the trigger carefully. Shooting MG3 on gold status was very easy for me. G3 was not, but it also depends on sight calibration. We had some which were way off and one or two shots were needed to find the correct aiming point. G36 is a toy compared to G3, but getting a marksman badge can be done with far less training and skill.

There was this kid that literally didn't show up to our senior year because he was always out getting high and he walked on graduation night. US school standards are the lowest in the developed world. Actually, they're even some of the lowest in the undeveloped world too. I have friends in literal 3rd world countries who's teachers got paid more than they do in the US. Their school is harder and their college programs are generally better as well. On the M2 .50 Cal machine gun that lost the barrel. Someone failed to check headspace and timing before attempting to fire that weapon and ensure that the barrel was correctly installed and set. The barrel screws into the receiver so it's impossible for the barrel to just fall out like that unless it was just laid in there. One of my five MOS's was Small Arms Repair and I have extensive experience on the M2. Also, the Australian rappel wasn't so bad with all the gear and weapon until he got to the bottom. It was probably his first Australian rappel. I remember doing that back in January 1984, during MOUT training at Ft. Bragg, trained by the 82nd Airborne. I don't claim to be a "Seal" or Special Forces like some of the LIARS here, but I am a retired Operation Enduring Freedom veteran that served in Ordinance for 17 years before transferring to Combat Engineer's for 10 years. My other MOS's include Tank Turret and Artillery Repair and Crane and Heavy Equipment Operator. Oh, I am also a "Toxic Warrior" that did basic training and other training at Ft. McClellan which was the US Army's Chemical Weapons School and was exposed to chemical, biological, and radioactive agents not to mention PCB's from the Monsanto Plant that contaminated the whole Anniston Alabama area with PCB's including Ft.
