For a while now, parents have equated giving limits, structure and social training to children as a form of torture, a trauma-producing factory. The result is that we have never had as many mentally disturbed people as we have today.
I love the movie (Godfather), but this person showed the wrong movie to showcase etiquette. Downton Abbey, My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, real Monarch's etc etc. would have been wayyyyy better choices.
It seems there are great lessons to be learned from every social class, ethnicity and culture. Keep the positive traits, discard the maladaptive ones, be adaptive, stay resilent, maintain a positive mindset thru adversity. Think several steps ahead, strong work ethic, life long learning, seeing multiple aspects to every issue, moderation in all habits, steadfast in purpose and ethics.
These things are just old-fashioned etiquette which has mostly gone out of style. When I was in the military, we were taught these things and they were reinforced at formal events, ceremonies, balls, etc. the different uniform combinations conveyed what was appropriate for different settings. This hit home for me after I retired and started my second career. It was immediately apparent that younger people without military experience had no idea how to dress, converse with seniors, exercise table manners, ,operate their alcohol intake, and so forth. The shame of it is, they are only hurting themselves.
NO..NORMALLY THEY FLAUNT MONEY- USE BRANDS AND ARE TOTALLY STRIDENT--NO SENSE OF MANNERS..HAVE NO IDEA THAT YOU HAVE TO ARRIVE WITH SOMETHING..NEVER EMPTY HANDED AND NEVER talk about money or your business--never brag
What's funny to me is that a lot of old-money families dress in ill-fitting suits A LOT of the time. They might be $3,000 suits, but you can't tell because of how bad the fit is. Also, Churchill hardly practiced moderation with regards to drinking. He wasn't old money, but he was quite posh and respected among the elite. The days of obligatory elegance are over. I think with the very specific dissatisfaction among the youth which deems their unfortunate lives the blame on the 1%, the old money cats are being influenced by the common folk; in fact, they may try to hide their wealth as best they can in order to fit in. It's always the new money that buy outrageous vehicles and clothing. The extremely wealthy, like Bill Gates or Elon Musk tend to dress rather normal. Strangely, there is more to old money than...money. I think of formerly wealthy families that got into debt but still had their last name or heritage to speak for them. They could marry into a rich family in order to gain back that superficial wealth. Interesting concept when you think about it. Money isn't everything, and as this video suggests, it's mostly etiquette.
Love the thank you note mention. Almost a lost art. However all you need is to receive one to realize how important they are.
People behave better in the past generally not just people with money
Agree

I wondered about the choice of movie clips too. Irony perhaps?
