I love these video essays but I feel like you are trying to replicate Exhurb1a’s style. If I’m wrong please ignore this and I apologize in advance, but if I’m right I think it would be great for your channel if you explored other styles and developed your own identity
Hey! Thanks for the feedback. I do not deny that I make extremely similar stuff to Exurb1a, albeit far less capably, and it isn't solely coincidence. I got into this sort of thing because I saw his "Then Next Comes" and realized, hey, you can just do this. I have, however, been writing and thinking about these sorts of topics in this writing style for ages now, I just didn't know a way to put it into video format. To put it bluntly, Exurb1a introduced me to the thought of making writing into videos, two things I love doing, and every other way of formatting that I've thought of has just taken too much time and effort. I've tinkered with 3d modeling and cinematography, and that went about how you'd think. I don't have camera equipment to record anything myself, and I just don't know how else to visually represent my work than through the depression-turtle-patented jpeg way. My writing style is also eerily close to Exurb1a, and I won't say there isn't some...well, we'll call it "borrowing" (comedic timing and such are similar) but it has actually been largely isolated and is of my own accord. I've only known about Exurb1a for a few months now, and it is genuinely just coincidence that we both adopt similar tone and that I happen to write similarly, and about similar topics. I believe we read similar books, but I don't know. The hope is to grow in my own right and further diverge from Exurb1a and differentiate myself more. The video structure IS essentially the same, just less organized, and that's something I fault myself for entirely. I'm working on that. Right now I'm parsing out how to grow my skills as a hobbyist writer and editor, and part of that is seeing what works and what doesn't. I am pretty much blatantly looking at what Exurb1a does with his editing and pacing (things I struggle with) and figuring out the fundamentals of how that works. Your points are very valid, and something I have taken into consideration for a very long time. I hope to continue to fill my own identity in the common months and years, but it may take some time.
