That is a buffalo not a carp. Buffalo are a native fish, they look like carp but are not close relatives. They can get huge. 60lb+.
Buffalo carp aren't related to carp but ideed are named that. Just like a peacock bass isn't actually related to bass. It's actually a cichlid
Catfish and Carp I thought it was a carp to hey your would know you are the man
Catfish and Carp love your channel . Keep it up!
@@brendensharpe288 actually "carp" isn't even in the name. It is called a big mouth buffalo. Closely related to sucker fish
@@Justinhfishing wasnt the point of that comment
"woah I snagged a buffalo...thing." ha ha mike you crack me up! love ya
Nice Buffaloes! And they were bigmouths too, the most difficult species of buff to catch! Awesome job, wish I could get a bigmouth, we just catch smallmouth around here.
That's crazy!!! I actually saw this video a long time ago and didn't realize where you were at. I lived in Columbus for a little while and actually went to the Hoover reservoir for the first time a couple months ago. Long story short, I saw that spot and remembered how you were fishing the bottom of a dam and I wanted to try it out. I got down that path and ate crap between those rocks (it's a lot deeper than I realized). Saw a couple signs and didn't think you were supposed to be down there so I left shortly after. Just now put two and two together and realized I was fishing the same dam you were at. Lmao!
Everyone in the comments are going crazy about the types of fish. Sauger+Walleye= Saugeye. It's definitely not a walleye, if it's not a sauger it's a saugeye. And a Buffalo looks nothing like a carp. Good fishing! That's all that matters.
Buffalo definetely looks like carp/wild goldfish
has anyone ever though about what fish are thinking when they are caught
I Geus f*ck
brooo yess😂😂
+Steve Dupree thought of that...
Steve Dupree probably HOLY SH*T
They think they are choking getting eaten or getting pick up by a bird.
thanks for posting i miss hover dam fishing for saugeye
Buffalo carp I have never heard of that kind of species before until now awesome video and catches of fish
We have saugeye here in Oklahoma as well. Catch them all the time on cut shad while I'm catfishing. Always a nice bonus. Damn good eating.
Great video. Do you recommend fishing anywhere specific? I was fishing on that ledge today and was a little skeptical bc of the current in that pool below the dam. Although the water looks incredibly calm in your video.
Thanks for taking the time to make the vid and show everyone some nice action, really enjoyed it,all the best and great fishing to you.cheers
+James Calley i appreciate the support brah!
I love how you use all rapalas keep it up
who's watching this because they have nowhere to fish
This was posted on my birthday lol nice vid
+Jikidough 12 thanks and happy belated bday!
the other fisherman is just like " what do you want me to do about it?" haha
Awesome video, great fish! Dams have basically all the species you want, at least at my local dam... carp, catfish, bass, trout, muskie. Nice job.
Yeah this dam isn't that diverse but the dam I used to fish back in Philly yielded over 20 different species!
In CA, we no have muskies, pikes, walleyes, tiger perch, wipers, drums, sea trout, red fish, saugeye, etc. It'd be fun if we did. We do have just about everything in North America....like white bass (in only like one lake), talapai (one lake), salmons (few), stripers, bass, carp, cats, trout, crappies, bluegills, etc. etc.
1Rod1ReelFishing what dam did you fish in Philly. I live about 15 minutes outside of Philly and I'm always looking for new spots.
I like your videos , they're really nice , ACTION !
Nice work bud
Wow mang, nice vid!
I've been waitin for ya to post another vid haha
Lol don't worry there will be a lot more in a month or so when I'll be fishing 3-4 times per week!
sweet i have fished the past 3 days straight myself!
BassKings Nice where do you live again?
just south of pittsburgh,pa
Nice vid......those carp looked strange!
good video thanks for posting
I know this is an old video but this is like 25 mins from my house. Thought about trying to hit hit up. Love the videos
My mom and dad are wanting to take me here to go fishing at Hoover Dam reservoir in 2021 I've never been there yet but I hope to this year how do you access that spillway and fish right next to it
We live in the beautiful South! Keep your northern fish. Kidding.
Hey I been watching a lot of your videos lately, love then, noticed most were late summer, any tips for Columbus Ohio spring/early summer bass fishing ?
nice carp...I harvest 40 pounders or bigger when I'm bowfishing...love the fight these guys put out
The saugeye is a hybrid combination of sauger and walleye. They grow much faster than walleye. Twice as fast! They are far more aggressive feeders. They hit harder and fight harder than walleye too.
Love it, catch different species lol
how do you cast it far with out it getting a birds nest. I'm new to the bait caster and about Everytime I cast it, it gets tangled... now I hold the line then I release and stop the line before it hits the water but when I start to reel in to make the release button pop back up that's when it springs back up and gets tangled... any advice?...
That big fish you cought was heavy
Used to fish here as a kid but it would be at the base of the damn next to the waterfall where white bass are in great numbers.
i live in Minnesota too and i call them walleye too
That's not a walleye. Saugeye and walleye are two different species. A Saugeye is a hybrid of a Sauger and Walleye.
Love your vids it's real cool you get to go to all these fishing spots if your ever in Florida near the Jacksonville area hit me up I know a few good spots you can fish with me at
I am 12 years old and I just got into fishing. Caught a 3 pounder out of a pond the other day. And what kind of lure is best during the spring
my first fish this year was a buffalo carp on a spiner, i was bouncing it off the bottom at my local spillway, maybe a 3lbr
the rear dorsal (or adipose fin) on the sauger is much larger than on the walleye if you compare them
Me and you should go fishing at canyon lake Arizona. They got bass and carp and cat fish and trout
I have never seen a carp like that, and I've never seen a carp take a lure
he accidentally snagged it
+Joshua Couling I caught a carp on a jig a few months ago. I didn't even snag him. He ate it.
+Joshua Couling I was thinking the same thing, LOL, and it's a Jerkbait; C'MONNN! Must be real hungry. Although we don't have buffalo carps here and carp do take the flies.
+Chor Her no it aint ya knob
+James Wolf not all carp are invasive. most are an original part of the ecosystem, you are just killing an animal just to kill.
Great video, I actually go there. What month was this?
That actually looked like a Bighead Carp, Buffalo Carp is just another name for the Common Carp which you guys catch in your other videos.
+Phoenix Franks thanks for watching! Date fished is listed in the video description
here in PA we have walleye. I wonder if they taste the same. :)
I love the fish he gets
We call them walleye here in central PA. Threw me off for a minute
Suager aren't walleye, it's a different fish but in the same family
Hey man you should try some lakes in texas there are some big largemouth bass here
sure lets drive 3,000 miles to fish at your local spot for a few bass.
Do those buffalo carp bite lures? I don't know because where I live they don't have buffalo
How deep is the water from where you are standing to the dam wall ??
That is a nice carp never seen one hit a lure
It's walleye and sauger. But the man at the lumber mill...that's the saw guy.
its a buffalo thing! lol
Cool fish
Hey 1rod, you cast with left hand, why use a left hand reel?
I am new at baitcasters and am bass fishing only. what type of line would you suggest I put on it?
hobby fan74 12 lb stren original monofilament
How did you get down in the spillway? My son and I went to Hoover today after watching your video and could not find a way to get down to the spillway.
jizolt01 there’s a road you can drive down to it
i know that this is a really late comment but earlier today i ran down to the spill away but it says your not allowed down there is it still accessible?
You shoulf come to Arkansas sometime and let me fish with you we got nice rainbow trout and bass down here
What rod were you using.. It looks like a great all around rod
blake martin gear used is listed in the video description :D
I much prefer the Crankin Rap over the Clankin Rap. I never had any success with that Clackin Perch. Thoughts?
Is it too late in the summer for good fishing there at Hoover Dam? (Posting this message in Mid June)
I saw a man eat carp one day. He was just a lot hungrier than I was.
When are you coming to Pennsylvania? Because I want to fish with you.
Talk about a throwback. But I'm pretty sure that carp was missing an eye
Lol snagged a big buffalo thing
1r1r where did u fish and what date I would like to know as a young saugeye fisherman
first video i saw of you probably not the last :P
+G4m1nG Zon3 haha awesome! :D
+1Rod1ReelFishing do you like to fish pike ? :D cuz im trying since 2 years to get one haha :P
+G4m1nG Zon3 if you live in the north, go to a rocky lake and try a spoon, crank air or spinnerbaits, they all work well
how are saugeye different than walleye? you ever fished the susquehanna? we got big walleye
+Shaun Hoke saugeye are walleye/sauger hybrid! and haven't yet but I plan to!
I grabbed my first sauger by the lip. Not so much fun.
i just went down there today and while you can get down there, ODNR and Hoover have posted signs everywhere saying it is a restricted area. Did anyone give you a hard time about being down there?
You brush the spines on top down, put your thumb on top of the spines, you're last 4 fingers on the belly and squeeze like your grasping something for your life
lol RIP rldickie
Hey are sauger and saugeye the same thing? We call it sauger here in Texas
+Chris Lane arent they all just pikeperch/zander?
just thinkin not sayin u have to but u should do a vid about things u always take with u when fishing or just part of a q and a. and how u choose the luers u use at the places u use the
have you ever heard of the Death dealer barts, you should get one of those lures...they are sick
I haven't but its an interesting looking frog lure, how do they work for you?
Just got one yesterday in the mail and took it out, was going for bass in the river but nailed a pike. so i call that a win
Animehero kamina Haha I definitely agree! Hopefully that pike didn't tear up your new bait too badly! I remember the first muskie I hooked into ruined my 15 dollar x-rap, but it was totally worth it.
Gotta give salmon a try down here in California
Me and my grandpa are GOING THERE TOMMOROW AHHHHHJJJJJ
By any chance are you going to be stopping by Michigan
This summer
Nice! I see you are standing on that wall. I presume you are allowed to fish down there, right? My buddy and I always wanted to shoot carp in that pool.
Roi Wolf Oh yeah I am, and I've seen ppl shoot carp there lol.
1Rod1ReelFishing this is a bigmouth buffalo im pretty sure, in the sucker/carp family
What are your reels and cost? Planning on buying my first bait caster and not sure on what to buy
Andrew Beil my reels range from $150 to $600, good starter combos are an abu garcia black maxx and a bass pro shops extreme combo, good luck!
Do u Record With a gopro
there is a fishing spot by that at the Hoover Dam in Las Vegas Nevada
This is not in Nevada this is in Ohio.......read the descriptions.
Georgia Bass Fishing TV he didn't say this was in Nevada. He just said there is another Hoover dam in Nevada
I just want to point out to everyone on here a buffalo is not a carp in any way. It is just a buffalo or buffalo fish there are 2 kinds smallmouth and bigmouth. Smallmouth is much more common than bigmouth. Not stepping on anyone's toes just correcting.
+Nick Weitzel did you know that common carp are acually not invasive? Bighead and silver carp are the problem, and they realy aren't carp any way. And you know you facts very well.
actually commons are invasive, they are just tolerated. There were no carp here until 1800s. Buffalo are native
when is your next tournament in Maryland
Hey when is the next time you'll be in MD cuz i want to go fishing with u
+Alex Romero i live in maryland haha
Nice work man. Have u ever fished downstream about 300 yards from the dam? Killer honey hole but usually hit up pretty good. Also, those are 100% saugeye hybrids. @1rod1reelfishing
+Adam Leppert thanks bro, haven't had a chance to fish downstream from the dam, I'll have to try it out next time I'm around, thanks for the tip!
what type of square-bill do you use
are there lots of Crappie in that dam?
Cool place to fish
What are your shoes? I always see you wearing them in the water lol
Lol just old tennis shoes, I have legit water shoes now though - Columbia drain maker II
what are some of our good bass lures thanks
Pj Wilkes check out my how-to vids for good lures :D
Nice walleye
Not a walleye.
plz do a video on how to use crank baits
+Lloyd McKie i have a how-to crankbait vid in this playlist :D
ua-cam.com/play/PLv3E4R_nowe0ShIWDAdJgmN05JIOVfxG_.html
Hey where exactly where you at on the hoover dam?
+Ben Swanson I was on the ledge :P
that's a big mouth buffalo carp
I caught a 27 pound common carp on a lure, I was fishing for pike and had 10 pound test on, the thing almost spooled my reel but I brought him in in a little over 15 minute battle, so yes, carp will bite lures but it is uncommon
I notice you stand in the water a lot. Can you tell me what kind of shoes you wear that you can get wet and that dry fast? thanks
+Joe A columbia's drainmaker II
+1Rod1ReelFishing thank you sir! I'm going to look into those! Love the videos btw! Very informative. If I were ever in your area I'd love to fish wit ya!
I was 12 when I caught my first pickeral and I grabed like a bass you know how that ended out...
You should really use a landing net unhooking mat and weighing sling for bigger fish because that other thing you have can seriously hook the fish
Ok thank you so much.
Isn't standing there kinda scary
+Tony Yang haha yeah a bit :P
+1Rod1ReelFishing how the hell you get there lol and are you from ohio?
I was just there today
+Ice NightHawk I'm going tommorow
Tony Yang ⬇️
excellent !! top !
wow is there any carp in amarica, there is loads of them here in europe, Holland
there are tons of carp in America
He s fishing at the Hoover dam...
Never knew you would come down to Ohio lol.
How many shoes have you gone through so far?
Jake SuaVe' not many, i only go through about a pair a year
I grew up fishing lake mead topside and bottom side of the hoover dam ans this video is not the hoover dam but i do want to find this place and fish it
that's in Westerville
