That is a buffalo not a carp. Buffalo are a native fish, they look like carp but are not close relatives. They can get huge. 60lb+.

Buffalo carp aren't related to carp but ideed are named that. Just like a peacock bass isn't actually related to bass. It's actually a cichlid

That's crazy!!! I actually saw this video a long time ago and didn't realize where you were at. I lived in Columbus for a little while and actually went to the Hoover reservoir for the first time a couple months ago. Long story short, I saw that spot and remembered how you were fishing the bottom of a dam and I wanted to try it out. I got down that path and ate crap between those rocks (it's a lot deeper than I realized). Saw a couple signs and didn't think you were supposed to be down there so I left shortly after. Just now put two and two together and realized I was fishing the same dam you were at. Lmao!

Everyone in the comments are going crazy about the types of fish. Sauger+Walleye= Saugeye. It's definitely not a walleye, if it's not a sauger it's a saugeye. And a Buffalo looks nothing like a carp. Good fishing! That's all that matters.

Great video. Do you recommend fishing anywhere specific? I was fishing on that ledge today and was a little skeptical bc of the current in that pool below the dam. Although the water looks incredibly calm in your video.

In CA, we no have muskies, pikes, walleyes, tiger perch, wipers, drums, sea trout, red fish, saugeye, etc. It'd be fun if we did. We do have just about everything in North America....like white bass (in only like one lake), talapai (one lake), salmons (few), stripers, bass, carp, cats, trout, crappies, bluegills, etc. etc.

The saugeye is a hybrid combination of sauger and walleye. They grow much faster than walleye. Twice as fast! They are far more aggressive feeders. They hit harder and fight harder than walleye too.

I caught a 27 pound common carp on a lure, I was fishing for pike and had 10 pound test on, the thing almost spooled my reel but I brought him in in a little over 15 minute battle, so yes, carp will bite lures but it is uncommon

You should really use a landing net unhooking mat and weighing sling for bigger fish because that other thing you have can seriously hook the fish
