    Columbus local ... any advise on fishing from bank for blues ? Just moved here last year from cinci and haven't had any luck

    • @tpkrobbyrobz
      @tpkrobbyrobz  4 роки тому +4

      Use Fresh cut shad or fresh cut bluegill for bait. Use your phone to access the Hoover fishing map and try to fish areas near the existing creek channel. It’s highlighted on the map. Blues will travel along the channel and come up into certain areas to hunt. Also there’s a website called Hoover fishing reports. During the season it is updated regularly and gives specifics from each species as far as when, where, and how they are being caught. If you’re planning to sit on the bank for a couple of hours and nearly an hour has passed with no bites.....move to another spot. I hope that helps some. Good luck out there.

      I mostly throw a super spreader that’s a 5ft net with a 10ft diameter and 3/4 pound per radial foot.

    Robert what is the best ramp to launch from, I have a 18' deep v with a 150 motor would I be allowed to launch as long as I keep motor tilted out of the water? 1 last question do you find your shad in the coves or where this time of year. Thanks

    • @tpkrobbyrobz
      @tpkrobbyrobz  4 роки тому

      Randy Roberts yes you can launch as long as the big motor is up and you use a kicker or trolling motor. Docks aren’t installed yet, so no ramp is better than another for launching. But the blues are most active in the north pool at this time of year so oxbow is the go to ramp. Soon shad will be everywhere in the north pool but for now I’ve been finding them in coves, under bridges, and in random areas of open water.

    • @tpkrobbyrobz
      @tpkrobbyrobz  4 роки тому

      Michael Helton a little of both. Those blues move around quite a bit. But on the warm sunny days or after warm rains they’ve been moving into shallow water and laying in the mud.

      The HP limit at Hoover is 10. You can either tilt the larger motor out of the water or remove the prop. I like the twin bridges launch.

    I been trying to find some cats in the reservoir I fish here in Illinois any tips with water temps around 50 to 55?

    • @tpkrobbyrobz
      @tpkrobbyrobz  4 роки тому

      Cody Robison they’re starting to move around a bit. The shallow water is warming the fastest so on sunny days they will move into the shallows and lay in the mud. Fish shallow muddy bottoms near deeper water or near creek channels for blues and channel cats. Use fresh cut shad. Cut bluegill works also but shad puts off more scent.

    • @chrisaltenbach150
      @chrisaltenbach150 Рік тому

      The North basin seems to be the most productive for Channels (provided there is enough water). Cut shad is an excellent bait. Not sure about water temps as I rarely fish those temps. Jim Horan, catfish guru, would know your temp question (and techniques). But I have not hears from him in some time. He is author/publisher of Hoover Fishing Report blog (AKA, "Fish and Tails.") But I have not seen this blog for some time.

    What's the biggest blue you have caught there?

    • @tpkrobbyrobz
      @tpkrobbyrobz  4 роки тому

      26-1/2 pounds is the biggest I’ve caught from Hoover, 29-1/2 is the biggest that’s been on my boat from hoover(a friend got that one the night before and video is up from that too). 42 is the biggest I’ve heard of. I’ve heard of a few in the low 40s but haven’t seen it yet with my own eyes. I have seen several flatheads in the 40-60 pound range in the last couple years from Hoover.

    • @tpkrobbyrobz
      @tpkrobbyrobz  3 роки тому

      There really aren’t “spots”. They move around a lot. You can find them in different areas and even different depths from day to day.

    Hi , is there a HP limit on Hoover ??

    • @tpkrobbyrobz
      @tpkrobbyrobz  3 роки тому

      Yes 9.9 hp limit. You can have a bigger outboard but it must be trimmed all the way up, or if you use the big motor to steer a kicker motor, you can have it down with the prop removed. You can not run anything over 9.9hp...not even at idle or to load.

      @@tpkrobbyrobz OK , I appreciate your reply and info .
      I have a 20 hp so I will have to use my trolling motor and generator to keep the battery up , will take for ever to get to places :={ .

    • @tpkrobbyrobz
      @tpkrobbyrobz  3 роки тому

      Yeah I used to do it on a 8’ plastic sun dolphin 2 man boat with a trolling motor. I know a couple people who run bass boats and another guy who has an 18’ tracker targa and has to go trolling motor only. It can still be a good experience even dealing with the hp restriction without a kicker but I wouldn’t try it on a very windy day, and I would try to have bait before making the trip so you don’t spend hours looking.

      @@tpkrobbyrobz Hi Robert , yes it would be a nightmare on a windy day , I had a motor stop working at Dillon Lake and it was a windy day and I had 4 trolling batteries and it was on the last one when I got back to the ramp and I was only across the lake from the ramp .
