"What do you think is the longest thing?"
Dude... that's not a wise question to ask the Internet.
because it is the internet(cable)!!!
@@dutchik5107 no it's my d-
My immediate thought when i saw this video title was "Prepare for the comments"
Same here lmao
Who wasn't
SAME LOL I WAS EXPECTING THE TOP COMMENT AS "my dick"

@@vxdxnsh my watergate scandal president.
I understand the title of the video might be attractive to a different type of "discussion", but it's the best I could think of given the nature of the topic. If that's what you want to post about, I don't mind, but also do post your thoughts on the subject as well :)
Poor guy, prepare to get stormed by dick jokes
(I'm guilty too tho)
I am kinda missing time-space itself. Is there a reason you cannot classify this under a "thing" ?
I'm sure you can, but can you call it a structure connected by similar parts? Possibly, depending on your reasoning. I've thought about it, but then we get into a discussion about the nature of Spacetime and "Nothing", which I've already covered in a recent video of mine.
the longest thing is probably contiguous, observable reality
Fantastic video. Keep up the good work, and the well-deserved recognition is sure to come :)
I know what you are thinking. I know what you are trying to post in the comment section. Everyone knows. Stop it! It's already here.
Wow, wasn't thinking about dicks even after I read this comment, I'm proud of myself.
the longest thing is the list of the unoriginal '""my penis"" jokes in this videos comments
Haha true
Sad but true. In fact, I knew that there would be many of those comments even before I clicked on the comments.
9727diego well played
The longest thing is the time it takes for a Sharkee video to come up.
lol jk
It's longer for Vsauce, LOL
+Jeff O ahhaaha lol
Congratulations for not posting a dick joke.
En Route Tnx man, it's really hard to resist.
space itself is the longest thing in the universe. MIC DROP
isn't the longest thing, that we humans build, the road and railway system combined?
love your videos!
You're videos always amaze me.
I don't know how I found your channel, but I'm glad I did. This is as good as VSAUCE. You deserve more subscribers.
You wanna know what is my longest thing, ladies?!.... Hue hue hue hue.... its my loan bill....
lol
I heartily keked.
Love your videos man
I really apreciate your videos. They are very rich in information and images. I belive that if you tried to speak with lass pauses between words the experience would be improved even further. Thats just a suggestion, thought. Have a nice day.
@Sharkee you have too less viewers man!! hell awesome of a channel man!!
Hey man, you're getting better with each video! Just as tip though, try to make something out of that white space, or try focusing the video more around your chest and head areas. This will improve the quality of your videos, and hopefully, your subscribers!
YES YOU UPLOADED!
Sharkee, you rock!
you are one hell of a teacher, thank you for making otherwise mediocre topics so interesting 👍
Answer: The wait between episodes of DBZ Abridged.
What do you guys think? What is the longest structure that you know of?
My life
my dick
So, cosmic strings are like fault lines in spacetime? Given that they are so dense, yet unobservable, wouldn't they be a candidate for dark matter?
As allways, very intresting things to think aboute ! i have an ideea for the next video if you want : What if we are the first civilization that will explore space ? Why we allaways think that are others more advanced ? We are waiting sings for 20-30 years and nothing. I understand that the space is BIG but for god sake, 2-3 bilions years old civilizations should have any sign of radio. Or... who knows, we wait radio waves to hear and they use quantum comunications...
The walls of Benin (at least on Earth), even if they are not in a very good state now
YES! I was waiting for the cosmic superstrings :D
I think that, if nothing doesn't exist, then that means that everything is somehow connected, as there is no separation in between things, because there is no nothing anywhere, so everything that exist is a structure connected by similar parts, so everything put together (it is already together) is the longest thing.
when the date is going good but then you start tælling about cosmic Strong theory
youre videos ... i love them man .
where do you currently live ?
fantastic channel
I really like your videos. Quality over quantity, take your time to make them, just don't stop.
You are the best scientific UA-camr in my opinion.
Assuming Loop Quantum Gravity or other graph theoretic models where Planck volumes are connected to neighboring Planck volumes then a path that visits every Planck volume in the Universe will be the longest thing.
Your profile picture and your comment go so well together.
oh yea I am from INDIA
This was a very good video :)
Cool video!
We can't have elevators above 575 meters, but we can have a 35 786 km tall space elevators? Seems legit.
good vid, needs more than 5K views !
Since cosmic strings are still hypothetical, I'm sticking with galactic super clusters for the time being. They've been observed.
The longest thing? Well, look in my pants, and you will find... MY MIXTAPE!
Wanna know the longest thing?
The U.S. national debt, counting the length of the dollars from end to end.
Or the entire world's debt
actually im a professor in the harvard school. the thought to be longest thing is essentially the "neuralosyui gallack" its the galactic string as one piece that is longer than our observable universe. it does not atrract any light so we are not sure if its longer than the observable universe certainly. but there are signs that it comes all the way from our non-observable universe.
IMO, the longest thing we have made is roads. Someone in Argentina can touch a road at the same time as a person in New York, in effect they are connected by the same road.
Well, the Burj Khalifa is made up of atoms (resp. molecules) which have some "space" between them. That means that any structure like this isn't connected by "touching" (as in the commonly used meaning of "no space inbetween") but rather by electromagnetic forces. If this force counts as connection of a structure, why don't the other 3 fundamental forces count? The solar system is "connected" by gravity. Gravity is quite probably infinite (if it has infinite time to expand) so the "largest thing" would be a line starting from one end of the universe to whatever part the gravitational waves might have reached in that time. If you wanted to only count things that are "noticably connected" cosmic filaments might be rather huge. If string theory is correct, however, all things mentioned above wouldn't matter, because that string is still longer and actually "connected".
(I, personally, think that this "space inbetween" of atoms still counts as touching, but I'm referring to the laymans use of the word here)
I was hoping for longer vid..
The longest thing in the world? The wait for a new Sharkee video.
In that diagram of the sizes of the buildings, where the scales between the hypothetical buildings and the built buildings linearly correspondent?
If so, brilliant diagram!
good video
I don't understand why you don't have more subscribers
Where are you from? The accent is really cool!
I think he said he is from Bahrain

I enjoy watching this since video you need more subscribers and also can you do something with the white background is kill my eyes:)) try something natural
Nice intro
I'm not even going to check the comments XD
HAHAHH MY DI--- *scrolls through comments*

How about using an energy beam, directed from the counterweight to the anchor; which the elevator climbs?
So are these cosmic strings longer than the longest galactic superclusters or walls? And how about the Great Attractor?
Would a space elevator be possible if the cable hung from an orbital ring?
if by 'thing' we mean a structure in space that it's parts have relation to one another then we can say that the longest thing in the universe is likely the diameter of the largest black hole we can find out there. another really long thing could be the ort cloud of a star. it stretches light years away from the star itself but it's still caused by the star's gravity so the entire content of the ort cloud is interlinked by gravity. These ort clouds of stars can be thousands of light years in diameter depending on the star's size and field of influence. We can also treat a nebula as a structure as it's technically an explosion so vast that it's still occurring as we see it and these are even 50+ light years in diameter. A structure of several gravitationally bound galaxies can also be treated as a structure so really anything can be the longest thing in the universe, depending on how you define 'thing'.
If cosmic strings exist (in the way we think they do). Would it be possible to use them to send information quickly over vast distances?
once, i linked 8 hubba bubba tape gum packs
Wow! How big was it?
What about the light from the big bang? That wave would have to be of considerable size.
Imagine remaining locked in that space elevator
One thing that's recently bothered me about space elevators: wouldn't they act like a yo yo de-spin device on a rocket, and slow our rotation?
Sharkee How did you become such a polymath, Nature or nurture?
tell you whats no the longest thing, Skarkee's hair
I'd suggest working on your sound quality a little. The information provided by the video is great, but it can be hard to understand what you are saying when you sound like you're talking in a tunnel.
why would we want to build a dysonsphere / ring in the habitable zone? should heat be a minor problem at that point?
The longest thing? The distance traveled by cosmic background radiation, or its respective waveform?
The skyscrapercenter link is broken :(
instead of using a cables & motors, could magnets or compressed air be used to left the carriage up the shaft?
The longest thing in the universe that is verified today is GREAT SILOAM WALL.
neat videos ^^
subbed and whatnot
Michael inspires you, I bet.
The longest thing in the universe is the time between the first day of freshman year and the last day of senior year
Cosmic String sounds like a type of dark matter or dark energy
Space is continuous and stretches till the observable length of the universe. So I think space itself is the longest thing.
well if time is a thing can it be considered the longest thing? as we do not know if it ends.
when talking about the longest thing are we talking about vastness or are we talking about just a length from point a to b? when asking what the longest thing is this should be considered in this case the most vast thing is the human imagination it can take you anywhere you want as to the longest thing when talking about point a to b than that is more than likely those proposed cosmic strings. In any case can you do what is the most vast thing next?
Anyone want to tell me the name of that slam metal band in the thumbnail?
I don't know but I'm pretty sure that it's longest state on Monday morning.
How does a 1d object have such a mass? Is "mass" in that case a measurement if how those string affect the space-time? Or are they made of "stuff"? Could they be related to Dark Matter?
Space X has footage of successful vertical landings. But, I don't think their over water. Putting a black backdrop when showing the scale of the sun in the Dyson's ring scenario might have been helpful. The string craps so theoretical it seems like space filler now days. Planting a ring around a red dwarf does sound cozy though. Much more manageable then the one in Ringworld.
I'd call my weenie a cosmic string but it has too much girth to be one
How about a filament, connecting galaxy clusters?
sharkee this may be a stupid ? and I'm sorry if it is, but these 1 dimensional strings with no width or height, that could potentially be as big as Earth,. IN YOUR opinion, do you think because of how dense and fact we can't truly perceive them, could they have something to do with gravity? I understand general relatively and basic quantum mechanics, im no expert, but now youv got me wondering if these one dimensional virtually huge but invisible strings could potentially be gravity. I may be way off base here but you seem like someone who likes to teach and I'm very interested in your opinion on universal and existence topics
what about an elevator that is just shifted over 1 shaft into a new frame every 575 meters
Me: the longest thing is e, pi, tau, pi squared etc.
Euler: *stop stop! You've broken the universe! Infinity isn't a number! Let's move to history!*
Who ever came up pi: *MATH IS OVER*
gravity waves from 2 orbiting black holes could end up becoming fairly long
Can't Pi be the longest thing? It does go on forever
Omg that's infinite, we are looking for something actually long dude, not infinite length
I'm just trying anything to keep the conversation away from dicks.
how about omega?
Well I think an easier way to do the same kind of idea would be 1/3 as a decimal.
wat do u do for a living?
fractals for the win
the notion of length is depending on the frame of reference ( einstein SRT) so is an absolute Longest Thing possible ?
CfA2 Great Wall!
Well, the largest thing contains the longest distance, so the largest star could be considered the "longest thing"
What bout the great Sloan wall
How did you aply density to a 1d obiect?
I think he is talking about 1d density ie not kg/m3 but kg/m
+Kuldip Soliya problem is that 1 dim objects have no volume thus lack the density, same with 2d objects. its true about solid objects but didn't convey to particles or strings, I suppose
God is the answer my dicky friend :)
+NarutoSSj6 it's not volume based density it's length based density. normally unit of density is kg/m^3 but for length based density unit is kg/m
if I'm not mistaken then density of string in physics mostly taken as linear density that is kg or g/m
if you divide anything by zero it becomes infinity so the equation is
1kg/(1x0x0)=infinity
I have heard of s 15? GPc galaxy cluster, suposedly breaking uniformity, doesn't that count?
The longest thing I can think of is the hilberts curve. HINT: it's infinite
What if I align all the atoms in the universe in a single line end to end? How long will it be?
we don't know how many atoms exist in the universe but a calculated estimate would be the length of the absorvable universe cubed
jeremy falcon
No my mockingbird sized gentlemens sausage is not one of them
Maybe some structure holding the multiverse components together?
What multiverse and components are these?
+Kathie Dart - I can't tell what level of experience you are asking this with? An answer would be very different if you haven't yet learned about the multiverse, than it would if you agreed there is a universe, and very different agin if you believed a Sky Daddy created all of this in 6 days, 6,000 years ago.
Monday to friday
Could we make a space elevator to the moon?
