- Artificial Intelligence has become a major threat to the music industry and the careers of millions of musicians worldwide. This is how AI could ruin 750,000 music careers if not more. With the introduction of tools that auto generate full songs, it's hard not to feel like AI will put us out of a job. I believe it's time to fight AI with AI and beat it at it's own game. Now is the time to level up your music career before you get left behind.

Good job.....but how can i increase my subscribers,,?
I feel I have been waiting for this tech revolution. Only a musician who's obsessed about his musical dreams and career and have been putting time and effort behind his music, will be able to utilize ai tools far better than someone who doesn't understand things like time signatures, eq, figure out genre based target audiences, what contents might be useful for certain tg etc. Also, yes, artists who will prioritize authenticity of their brand AND use ai tools accordingly will steal many careers. It's not that we should be worried about the ai, but the people who use them lol.
Yes, I'm worried that mainstream music will become even more robotic, sterile and uninspired than it already has become. We've already seen a major degradation in the songwriting skills in popular music over the last 20 years. However, I believe that as long as musicians use more of their imagination and creativity in their work and less canned beats, samples, auto tune, you name it, the more it will stand out, but then again that will be copied too...technology always makes many people lazier but also has the potential to bring advancements in what is possible for those who can learn ways to utilize it in new ways. So yes it is concerning to me and I do wonder what future generations will be listening to and creating...??
I think it will start as a creative tool for music, but human nature will take over and people will just crap out full songs based on a prompt. There might be an attempt to regulate the tech, but the core of it is something that will likely make its way into open source and pretty much be unstoppable. On the plus side, it will give us MANY different musical possibilities we've never dreamed of, but on the down side, it will take away the creative power of the individual to an extent as a seemingly popular trend with humanity is to shift to what is more efficient or convenient.
What I find so ironic is that for the past 20-ish years, humans have done everything in their power to make their vocals sound robotic (auto-tune, vocoders). Now the AI vocals sound more human than the vocals produced by humans themselves (talking about mainstream pop/rap music)
You're so right!
LOL it's true!!!
Yeah it’s weird. Although I do like vocals affects. I don’t care for it when it’s sounds to robotic. I don’t care for ai really
To all the people who may be afraid or stressed about AI generated music, just remember the more things change, the more they stay the same. Top 40 has been a soulless, monocultural hellscape since the 2010s (and before as well, it's only since then that I've started to give it any attention) that appeals to the widest, most non-discriminating audience imaginable. AI or no AI, the music industry will keep pop music as watered down and bland as possible to appeal to as wide a market as possible. The problem AI generated music posits (to me) seems to apply more to someone like a Drake or a Katy Perry (read people who, for whatever reason, want to play it safe with their music to appeal to the mass market) than to artists genuinely interested in experimentation and crafting.
I feel like with the incredible output of AI, soon every market will be saturated and it won't even be special. I think in the future people will care and pay more knowing it was made/created by a human or seeing actual humans perform
THIS! This is exactly what I've been saying, if you want to make bland music with mass appeal then you should be worried but if you want to actually make something creative or something unique then you shouldn't worry
Writing hit songs isn't anywhere near as easy as you think it is. Simplicity melodically, on that scale is actually incredibly hard.
I really think that's one of the areas it will struggle
"No amount of AI will be able to replicate you."
Remember a decade ago when people said the same thing about AI creating artwork and music?
The key phrase we need to keep in mind as artists is ‘excessive dependency’. While AI can write music, it cannot produce human sentiment like musicians can. Personally, I don’t like having to use AI not just for my music, but also for my album art, logo design and content. It’s already gotten a bad rep with plagiarism from not just artists but also scholars and other creators.
I agree. I don't think AI is going put musicians out of work. I've heard what AI can compose and so far I'm not impressed. Maybe the average pop music normie won't be able to tell the difference but as musician, I can.
@@SRMoore1178 People this is just the beginning stages. AI can be used to exponentially advance AI.
Sure it can. You're grandizing yourself.
I see some people worrying about music, so here's my take. AI will most definitely replace all forms of mainstream music. Because mainstream music has been spiritually and artistically dead for the a few decades. 99.9% of the songs you hear on the radio are simply products. Let's take some goofy poser like Drake. He doesn't write his own lyrics, he doesn't produce his own beats, he does none of the engineering in the studio, he takes no part in the cinematography of his clips. This guy shows up to the studio, he's handed a couple of lines, he raps for 3 hours, then leaves. A couple of weeks later the people in charge of making everything for him release his track and a clip video and he earns millions for doing none of the work. He's just a face for something that isn't real. Drake isn't an artist, he's just the personality used to ship that art under. And that applies to virtually all the most popular artists nowadays. They're just posers. They're just a celebrity being handed all the fame and recognition for something they truly didn't do. And all of that soulless process is reflected in how unoriginal, boring, uninspiring and simple their art is. This mainstream music has been made with methods resembling AI for decades already. For example, all a beatmaker has to do is load up FL studio, load up a premade template, jam on his keyboard for 30 minutes, hand his shit to an engineer to mix and master it and boom it's done. That's why a beatmaker can make dozens of beats a day. It's the artistic equivalent of McDonalds. It will be REALLY FUCKING EASY for AI to replace these factory workers (not artists, they're factory workers because they're just the individual processing units that end up making a finished product). And honestly, I don't give a fuck because it won't make a difference anyway. It's not like there was any soul in this type of music in the first place. It will just become easier to ship out more artistic McDonalds so that drones can consume their daily dose of mind numbing noise.
Now to me there's another big category, and that is the artists that are still popular to the point of sometimes making it to the mainstream scene, while still having some form of artistic integrity. These people will either lose the rest of their integrity and let AI do shit for them, won't change their ways, or they might actually do the right thing for the art consciousness and decide to become better artists by partaking in more of their production, refusing to use that technology and trying to make higher quality art. But I'm not familiar with this caliber of artists so let me head to the next category.
Now that's where it gets interesting in my opinion. There are many artists out there making authentic music out true passion and for the sake of art. These young artists that currently have 25 followers on Soundcloud will become the next generation of renowned artists. They're the pioneers. Because their music will be so unique that AI will never catch up to it. It will be so expressive and intimate that AI will never even come close. If anything, I see AI as something positive in that regards, because it will weed out all the people who were never "artists" in the first place, the posers, the people getting the fame for doing 5% of the work.
Then the REAL artists will shine. Because they'll be the only ones able to deliver something that moves humanity's soul. The ones that were ignored because their taste and style were too out of the box, too unordinary, too special, or simply too thought provoking will finally get the recognition that they deserved. They won't be left in the shadows anymore, in very small tightknit communities, or just alone.
The first half of this was quite negative because I have a fundamental disgust for cheaply made "art". But the conclusion is positive. And I want to spread hope about this whole art situation, especially in music and in animation.
I know that to you reading this, I'm just some random guy saying some random shit. But please trust me when I say that the next decade will show a marvelous and beautiful expansion of the boundaries of art. There's going to be so much boundary breaking, breath taking, impressive art that will push the art consciousness forward in realms never seen before. The culmination of thousands and thousands and thousands of years of collective work. And it will be amazing. I'm genuinely looking forward to what these young unknown artists are cooking in their bedroom, or perhaps while traveling the world as vagabonds for inspiration.
You might actually be one of those artists I'm talking about right now. If you are one of them, a misunderstood artist who knows he has something to say to the world, something to make it more beautiful, desperately trying to show the world what you're capable of to no avail, don't lose hope. Your time is coming. I know that it's hard when people judge your work on shit that doesn't matter instead of your message or the feeling you're trying to portray. But one day people's consciousness will open up to your expression, and they will listen. Keep practicing your craft, keep being mad scientist, keep chasing the things that make you feel alive. Don't be scared to be your true self, no matter how much people reject you. And I genuinely wish you the best of luck, future pioneer. I'm looking forward to what you have to show to the world.
(and if you need someone to talk to, share your art to, and have conversations about that, let me know. The thing that brings me the most pleasure as an artist is helping people in the same situation as me and I'd be so happy to share what I've learned over the years.)
Godspeed.
Wow, big thanks for this massage, im 15 and my all day worry is that AI will replace me and others.
I worked 3 years on my first songs
And it gives me hope that theres still some people like you 💙
I'm not worried at all, a good musician will utilize this technology to be even more creative.
Yes! 👏
I agree! The people that are worried are gonna get left behind.

easily the best music tip video i’ve watched. you never fail adam
Welcome to the 2020s. The era where 50% of all current jobs will be lost to automation.
I’ll write music regardless because it’s my passion. AI is faceless etc but I can’t pretend it doesn’t piss me off unfortunately. Anyway onwards and upwards guys 🎶🎶
It would have been great to lose monotonous and physically harmful jobs to AI, but that we give up our creativity to replace it with Ai, not so great.
@@seratia123 this may be old news. I heard that Spotify are trimming back on curators for their playlists and going AI. Not sure how good that is for us musos. It might open the gate up a little. Who knows.
Adam,
what is scary for me right now is I saw this guy who had a twitch account bot that could make twitch videos highlights , post it all on its own to youtube with captions and thumbnails etc. Imagine if an AI could do that same end to end thing, make music, album art, post on its own, have a separate personality entity altogether. that too on a scale that humans can never possibly do, we as musicians would be finished. it would just be who's AI album is better now.
I love that you said that no A.I. can replace human connection.....
Good tips!! Appreciate it
You’re welcome!
This is an awesome breakdown of the bad AND the good, and thank you for the templates!!

brilliant video, good work!
Glad you liked it!
That drumroll caught me off guard. I’m so used to Adam’s voiced drum roll lol.

Chatgbt is LITERALLY game changing for bands who are clueless on booking/promoting. This thing seriously has 99.5% of the answers and if you use it right you can seriously have a major advantage in the industry all because of this app
Why couldn’t they just search it up?
I'm both worried and excited, for the reasons you talked about. But I suppose it's like any other technological advancement: some will lean on it as a crutch, while others will use it as a tool while still relying on their own creativity and individuality. Like others have said, AI isn't going away, so I suppose it's best to figure out how to incorporate it into what I'm doing in a way that doesn't totally depress me lol
"Never discount your creativity and individuality" I'm afraid that it's inevitable in long term. AI shapes the way how we think and create. And that scares the **** out of me.
Thsnk you so much, Adam! We LOVE this and these ideas. We are into ChatGPT already, but will employ your new 5 ways too. Super psyched for Masterclass 4.0 to start! And we LOVE that you ended up doing your own script for this vid! haha. ~Evan
You're so welcome!
Thank you for your thoughts on this, and I'm happy to hear you say to use it as a draft. Cause yeah, if you are not putting your own, it will never mean anything.
AI isn't going away. We evolve or die.

@@Saint_Rigal I don't need to start digging. I'm evolving and adapting buddy.
@@Jtitor177 You do not have a chance now that AI can be used to advance AI. There is no precident.
Yeah this video is one i’ve been eagerly waiting on
As instrumental music is my fulltime career I´ve become more and more scared of AI taking over unfortunately.
If you make mood music, people don´t care from where the music is coming from so it´s really hard to actually build a brand around that. It´s harder to connect to instrumental mood music then singer songwriters for example. However I don´t see AI making high quality music fully without the guidance of a composer in the next 5 years or so. So I accepted to work with AI in the future, assisting and picking/sorting what is actual good music/ shaping what the AI generates. I believe that will be a future "job" for a lot of musicians. Since you still need the experts with experience to tell the AI where to go etc.
I want to be an artist in future but this ai just gave me a mental breakdown , i am actually having a really hard time because all the time I put into my practice and my dreams 😭💀
Here is the thing. Production companies are about to collapse because anyone can make these things for FREE. If there is no money, the industry collapses. Also, it's not like they can sue anyone because each is original content from a robot.
I saw this AI mix and mastering service I wanna try out. The quality on their site sounds amazing! That would save me some money using the home studio
AH! The name of your masterclass... (Chef's kiss)
AI will not go away, the ones fighting it will be the ones to get replaced by it first.
The last ones to get replaced will be the ones that use AI to enhance their workflow.
Tyler Hubbard (FGL) is also a part of the talks with the government about protecting songwriters.
Id love to play around with chatGpt but I dont have a cellphone or a phone system it allows
cell services dont work well in my region, so some of us may have landlines. voip, satellite radio phones etc... So I am not allowed
I did utilize ChatGPT to write 3 or 4 versions of one song's lyrics to help give some gas to ideas I was struggling with.
I did wind up using... one word out of all those ideas. But it did otherwise help me think about the lyrics in different ways to get around the block, I guess? 😅
It's definitely not as scary as some people think.
Loved the “drum roll” music… game recognizes game

sup guys,I wanna be musician and now i m in searching online daw. I found one, this is Amped Studio, is someone hear something about this online daw ? I need to write a music in a browser, what do you think ?
Especially if you're an artists that don't connect with your fans. In this way, you make them loyal to you. FOREVER
Keep your art real, unique, from your soul, thats the real pourpose of doing it anyway, so doesent matter what AI will sound like, in the end people will miss the human side of things, cause algorythms wont fill any soul at all.
NSAI is working with the government on this. You'd have to ask Bart (Nashville chapter) about the outcome. But they're trying to make it so that AI written songs can't be copyrighted.
He talked about it at the Tin Pan South seminars a few weeks ago.
That would be lovely, but it isn't possible. There will never be a litmus test where you can take someone's lyric sheet and say definitively that it was written by AI.
Is Tony Stark less of a genius because he used JARVIS to create the Iron Man suit?
Since we're on the topic of AI, Can you post a review video about this new tool for musician called LyricStudio? Its a AI songwriting tool for musicians to help them with writing songs and coming up with ideas.
I’ll look into
I made Kanye sing Cold by Crossfade today, and it took 5 minutes. We are in a new time

I like using chat gpt to critique my songs thoroughly, idk why 😂 it gives me dopamine when it compliments my work quote on quote quite a captivating compelling piece
If this AI started in the 2000s, we'd still have just as much trash in the top 10s and on the radio as we already have. Talentless artists will make trash with or without AI. One could consider autotune as primative AI and a good example of this.
At the end of the day the cream always Rises to the top 🔝 AI will get exposed. Doesn’t worry me at all.
I love how youtube works... I watched this video as part of research for a video I'm working on... Never heard of your channel...
0:15 I'm thinking, "Who is this guy? Let me get this over with."

Starting at 2:10 "I like this guy"

Thank you for breaking down Ai tools schools and colleges should teach student how to utilize AI tools not stop them. It's wrong to memorize things when you can access all the knowledge in the internet . The best way is creativity and critical thinking
I think AI is awesome. It’s a tool we as artists utilize to create something new
As a composer, I still to this day, hire musicians and the recording engineer/mixer. Sure, this old-school approach is far more expensive than the new, "drag and drop," way of writing music, and having software automatically mix and master music, but, the relationship I have with the people I've worked with, is something AI will not replace (not this composer).
Every composer has a choice on how they want to compose and record their music, and I respect that choice.
I choose to record with real musicians, in a real recording studio, with an engineer who has massive success throughout his years, and keep the relationship that, to me, is far better sounding than AI will ever be able to do.
I just listened to juice wrld and XXX AI music and it’s crazy scary how accurate the AI is able to mimic exact sound of an artist voice. I just hope corporations don’t decide to make AI music from dead artists to make more money with their vocals and voice it would be very disrespectful.

Yoooo Adam you gotta let me know when you're using the pornhub jingle wife almost took my head off LMAO
Well I don't have a music career yet so I'm safe! Phew! 😂
in my opinion the music industry needs to change we need to get ride of American idol and do more with people who do not have the opportunity to get out and heard but that is just my opinion.
I’m not a fan of American idol based on the control they demand once you “make it” but what your saying seems a little contradictory. American Idol is an outlet for people to be heard isn’t it?
I don't think AI is quite there yet when it comes to making songs that sound like a real performance. Everything I've heard sounds messy, the vocals are unclear and lyrics are nonsensical when you can make them out. Then again, modern pop music already sounds like something made by a computer half the time anyway with all the autotune and all that. As for using AI for mixing and mastering, it's a nice tool to have for those of us who can't afford to pay someone to do those things. I don't think those who can afford it will make the switch though as it's still not as good as the real thing.
Show me a fully AI produced song that is in the Top 50 US charts and I might be impressed. Until then it's just toying around and make a generic sounding song.
I was just searching AI voice impersonations and now I see this. Wow! The movies were right about AI, I'm kind of worried now. Will AI take over? This is the beginning. This is what people in the future will look back on. Lol, just kidding, I don't know, but it is kind of suspicious all this AI shenanigans.
Mhm I see😶🌫️🕊
NOOOOOOO ADAM YOU'RE RUINING MY BUSINESSS!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭
Just gotta lean in and make it work to your benefit. Better to be first than last.
AI is here. It won't go away. Pointless opposing or boycotting or moaning on social media. We need to get on board, use AI to enhance and improve what we do and use it to magnify our human creativity. That's it. Make good music.
is AI fair use or copyright infringement though?
How are we going make good use? People are already using it as a tactic to take advantage of people
Do you know how hard it is to learn guitar ? Or any instrument for that matter ? What about the people that spent thousands of dollars in university for music degrees? Now ai is doing all of that in the matter of seconds There needs to be regulations on how successful ai can be because it’s gonna take away millions of music careers away from hardworking musicians that fight to follow their dream. Anyone that supports this bs needs to open their eyes and look at the big picture
We are only at the entry level of AI and already the music it creates and writes is really incredible. As an artist it is really worrying, we can say that it is robotic or lacks human feel but that just isn't true, it is infinitely more creative than individuals because it can process and come up with more versions than an individual, it can be fed millions of songs to enhance its knowledge and therefore can come up with tons of music. For the vocals maybe they do sound slightly robotic now but in the future that won't happen. Yes I think people appreciate and value the individual but there also many who don't care about the artist, just the song, for example look at Tik Tok, if an A.I. will create a catchy song tik tok generations won't care where it came from. Times are changing. Really it's not a good outlook for Artists with A.I. apart from the other time consuming tasks it can take away from us.
We should understand ai will always be better at everything than us in a very short amount of time. Do we really want to kill creativity..? Profit profit profit though.
Like I said in the video, I think it can be a helpful tool, but I personally don’t like using it for creative projects. I feel like if we lean to AI for the creative, we will lose our abilities to be creative.
Thing is: If you want, you can use AI to produce music that no human would have come up with. Many people miss that opportunity.
Impossible with millions of humans on earth.
So instead of replacing hard and dangerous jobs we’re using AI to displace musicians, as if we haven’t had the short end of the stick already
How is AI displacing musicians? Is AI playing gigs? Selling tickets? Building a fanbase? No. It’s simply a tool. Is it changing almost every industry? Of course. Musicians who don’t focus on the business and marketing side have always struggled or been taken advantage of by the labels. Simple as that.
You'll see an exacerbation of this AI music in the mainstream fluff. So many musicians will sound the same, leading to a revolutionary shift (obviously not for dotards) towards a more underground affiliation with music, as a consumable product. If you really want people to care about your music, develop yourself as a person to the point where you're an embodiment of proper ethics and philosophical virtue. Then, make your silly beats.
I've said this elsewhere but it agrees with your point, AI output is so much greater that soon every market will be saturated and the novelty will be gone. People will care more about actual human interaction
Seems a little short sighted. AI is going to become infinitely better at everything humans can do within a couple of years at the speed it is increasing intelligence now.
My point is that AI can’t pack arenas or sell merch. AI making the music itself won’t effect artists who build their brand.
Ai in every aspect of making modern music in my opinion , Has opened the flood gate,s for every single person who plays a instrument and has there own hobby recording studio.Every single singer and musician who plays the pub and clubs i know and talked to . Will NOT even give this music Ai tech there time of day . In there ego world and there own Super Stardom .What could be better than them . These pub dreamer,s will never invest money into new music Ai tech , i have seen so many entertainer.s with home studios , and nearly every DAW and program,s in there computer,s are copy and out of date install,s , Can anyone tell me , if these pub artists are so amazing singers ect. They should have no problem wrighting and making there own music . . And finally one fine day . these cover artist,s can stop making money off other people,s hard graft . MAKING MUSIC IS FOR EVERYONE , NOW WITH AI AND A FEW QUID AND A LITTLE TIME . AND ITS TIME WITH AI THECH TO CREATE .ENJOY THE AI MUSIC FUTRE PEOPLE ITS HERE TO STAY . .
Why? So someone else can come along and steal ur content? What’s the point.
Trust me, there's not much you can do anymore so people don't steal your content. Just keep pushing the bar higher and make them jump. 💪

Or... don't use chat gpt. For anything. Ever. Buy a day planner and take a literature class*. Find a way to make the world better instead of a way to fit in a box.
If you can be replaced by this technology, then you were never doing it right. Read that again.
The one positive thing about this is that, now, the real artists will stand out more.
And honestly, the music business is, in no small way, responsible for this. Out of sheer and desperate self preservation (when they realized artists no longer needed them), they've been leveraging talented but lazy young people into becoming fully inauthentic, template based, automatons and churning out the disposable razors and plastic cups of music for the last 20 years... now that same laziness and greed is going to push those pretend "artists" aside, as they are now fully replaceable and obsolete.
*chat gpt just read that and started taking a literature class. Doesn't matter. If you're still around, not just singing about warts, but singing about your warts, someone will relate.
