      My Asics rotation is the NB4 for easy/daily/recovery. I alternate that with the Noosa Tri 16 because I don't wear the same shoe back to back. Magic Speed 4 for tempo/threshold. Metaspeed LD for track/speed/VO2 max. Superblast 2 for long runs with workouts. Sky Paris for race day. I'm enamored with the Glideride Max but not sure where it would fit in the rotation. Maybe easy pace long runs up to 16 miles.

    I really enjoyed this video. I watch all your videos throughout the year, but it's good getting a review all at once. I tried the Novablast 4 this year but sold it. For some reason I didn't like the way it felt on the top of my foot. I also tried the Metaspeed Sky Paris, but it was too unstable and narrow for me. I need a bit of stability so I also tried the GT2000 v 13, but it also felt a bit confining. Maybe I should try the Kayano, but I like lighter shoes.
    Congrats to David for finishing 8th at the Santa Barbara Half Marathon and 2nd in AG!

    Meta speed edge OG: very propulsive but felt lack of cushioning in HalfMara; Glideride 3: soft, bouncy and surprisingly good at marathon pace but started to have heel slippage and inward pronation after 300k (maybe foam gave in?). Had older version of cumulus and Gt1000 and 2000s - the latter two were great for marathon training.

  • @JTD33
    @JTD33 2 місяці тому +3

    I have the Cumulus for walking and it works well for that. Currently injured but it feels like this could work for some as a Glideride 3 alternative, perhaps even more so than the Glideride Max due to the lighter weight and better versatility. It's not as stiff in the rocker but is still quite rockered with significant toe spring so the ride (at least when walking) feel similar. The heel is roomier which I don't like but that also brings more stability. If only it had a rubber outsole, the Cumulus would be a great shoe. It will wear fast and doesn't have as good grip on gravel or soft surfaces so maybe not optimal as a do-it-all daily trainer. Based on some #27 leaks, it looks like the Fluidride outsole is here to stay unfortunately.

    My rotation so far this year is the Nimbus 26 & Superblast 1. I have a pair of Metaspeed Sky Paris coming next week for racing and speed intervals, but not sure if it will be for me. I like a more stable shoe.

  • @derringera

    So interesting. As predominately a forefoot striker when the Paris series came out I went to a half-dozen of my favorite shoe reviewers and across the board the message was "Get the Edge this time. The extra padding between your forefoot and the plate will save your feet over long distances." I got the Edge and I love it but I've now heard nearly every one of those reviewers say the Sky is the pick for forefoot strikers.

    Noosa Tri 14, Edge+, and Superblast 1 and 2 (like 1 so much that had to get the 2 before it sold out)
    Never got the Edge+ really working for me (too stiff and snappy for my pace), so it's reserved for interval workouts.
    Noosa Tri 14 still going strong for everything - walking to easy to steady to 5K. Has softened over time which makes it comfortable for easier / recovery miles.
    Superblast - nothing to add. It's the best.

    GT 2000 12 is my daily trainer, superblast 2 for long runs. Magic speed 3 for fast workouts, fuji lite for trail races. I've never had an asics shoe I didn't like but I have fairly normal width feet and don't heel strike. I'd probably like the metaspeed sky but I couldn't ever find one in 12.5 to try on, so I race in the endorphin pro 4 and vaporfly.

  • @hc44011
    @hc44011 Місяць тому

    One of the reasons why the magic speed 4 and the Novablast are important shoes are because the Superblast, and the Metaspeed series don't come in a size 14 shoe. I weigh 167 pounds and am 5 ft and 11 and 1/2 in. Don't forget that 1/2.lol. so I don't have an option of trying some of these other super shoes or super trainers that everyone lauds over. I spoke with the company and they felt that the shoe in this size didn't perform as well as it did in the smaller sizes. I didn't speak with anyone besides a lower level employee who informed me they think it may be related to the limitations of the way the plates performs at that large of a size with the foam for those lines. Anyway, for those who have larger feet, those shoes are still very important to us.

  • @radoslavstoev4550

    I don't know if it's just me, but the Novablast does not belong in the performance category IMO. I have the version 3 and it feels really slugish, disconnected and my forefoot is slapping the tarmac hard especially at slower paces. Maybe version 4 and 5 are better, but I will probably stay away from the Novablast line for now.

    • @timothymillea5564
      @timothymillea5564 2 місяці тому +1

      So I partially agree. I have the Novablast 4 and love it, but that is my easy, every day, workhorse shoe. It just rolls along natural with my midfoot strike and is light-weight despite its maximal stack. It's my go to trainer, and Endorphin Speed 4 and Vaporfly 3 are my performance shoes.

    • @adamh3246
      @adamh3246 2 місяці тому

      I agree that it's not performance for me either. Defo a daily but it can pick up the pace when needed to some degree.
      I find on recovery runs or when my form goes and I start heel striking a little more the sole feels disconnected and it starts to slap for me also.

    Asics needs a better speed trainer with FF Turbo+, not a fan of the Magic Speed 4 at all. They have a great pairing with the Novablast and Superblast they should slot in a speed focused trainer in there

    I love my Novablast 4, but from what we have heard so far the Novablast 5 is going to be a little snappier. If that is true, I think they may have made something that renders the speed trainer redundant. You can really get away with a full rotation of Novablast 5 as your daily trainer and do shorter speed workouts, Superblast 2 for longer runs and longer speed sessions, and one of the two Metaspeeds for racing. I appreciate the versatility of the "blast" series shoes. The Superblast 2 is definitely pricy, but if I can have those two cover all of my training that saves me $150+ that it would take to add something like the Magic Speed 4 into the rotation.

  • @viCoN24

    I don't know why recent trainers from Asics have such high volume and thin tongue. I can't cinch them down because tongue doesn't protect from lace bite. If I don't cinch the laces down, I feel like I'm swimming inside the shoe. I've used older versions of Cumulus and Glideride 3 where I didn't have this issue. Maybe sometimes they would taper a bit too much but they fit was pretty good. After recent redesign of Cumulus and Nimbus I can't find a good fit.

    • @viCoN24
      @viCoN24 2 місяці тому

      Oh and also one complaint about heel counter design with complacent foam like in Cumulus 26 or GT2000 12. When I heel strike I feel that I'm sinking into either gel or foam (or both) while stiff heel counter comes up and rubs achilles. I don't wear stability shoes so I might be wrong about GT2000 but flexible daily neutral trainer like Cumulus 26 that had its rubber outsole removed which made it even softer, paired with stiff heel counter feels off to me. If I feel the squish, why would I want to have the heel counter rigid and not working with general softness?

    Went to the asics store today and I could literally not find one model that had a wide enough toebox! Endorphin Shift 3 user here (yes, hallux rigidus haha).
    Btw in case you doctors read this - tried the Kinvara Pro yesterday and while the stiff forefoot and rocker are good for HR, the toebox is SO narrow. Big no-no for most patients.

    Hope the reviewers and the company Asics will see my comment about the improvements that need to be made, for example: Nimbus 26 weighs 300 grams - these are heavy sneakers for everyday wear. The second: of Cumulus 26 lacks grip, this is the main drawback of these sneakers, the second drawback is that they are viscous, if they were more springy it would be better. And also, I don't understand this trend in the color of sneakers, the toe should be black and not bright like now, for everyday wear they look clownish, and please remove the white color outmidsole, it is not practical, it gets dirty quickly and loses its presentable appearance, because of this you have to buy only black models. For example Nimbus 26/ Cumulus in the green colour but the green toe of the sneakers looks too bright , and not appropriate in many everyday situations . My next purchase will be Novoblast 5 .
