- Hello my pretties. Check out this super easy tutorial on how to make a gold drip effect on cakes. This trend is absolutely stunning and it's extremely popular lately. You can use it for birthday cakes, baby showers, weddings, or simply to jazz up a boring cake for any occasion. Check out the video for the step by step instructions. Hope you enjoy!
WARNING:
Gold dust is NOT EDIBLE only nontoxic meaning it will not harm you (a healthy adult) if you eat it but it is not considered a food. please warn your customer of this and inform them that although it is safe to eat something that the gold dust has touched it is not recommended to eat the actual gold dust itself. Let them know they can eat around it but not the actual drips themselves.

Hi guys I’ve been getting soooo many comments on the fact that the gold I use is non edible. Some are plain rude and I’ve deleted them lol and some are genuinely curious so I figured I’d just answer it here in case anyone is curious... back when I made this cake ( almost 2 yrs before I even posted it) there was no such thing as edible dust only non toxic now they make some great ones so you can easily substitute it 😉 I always told my guests that they shouldn’t eat it and just eat around it... some people cared and scraped the design all together others didn’t and just told their guests not to eat the actual gold part. Being non toxic I wasn’t worried about it poisoning anybody. I think a lot of people get hung up on the non edible part they think kind of like poisonous but it’s not... it’s like if a kid eats a crayon 🖍 you know... it won’t kill them (non toxic) but you wouldn’t set it up on a plate for them at dinner either because it’s not considered a food (non edible) lolol that’s all it means... on that note some people say why use it at all? Well it’s the aesthetics... some people use non edible flowers and ornaments on their cakes others use gold dust 😝
Any suggestions for an "edible" version that shines as nice?
Nice
Yes agreed! Now there are 100s of edible lustre dusts in all colours, and also sprays for buttercream. Janie your cakes look lovely and moist😍
Thank you for sharing I love this cake the gold is so classy I can’t wait to try I have never done a two tire cake either 😬 I’m in Australia 🇦🇺 we don’t get ever clear is there anything else I can use that will work just as well. Thanks in advance.
I love you! Love your demos! You are such a professional! I plan to try your good drip next week. Wish me luck🎂🎂🎂🎂

The cake looks great. Thanks for the video! How did u make the ganache for the drip? Did u use white chocolate chips? Can I please have the recipe.
Sammar Qasim thank you for watching... yes I used white chocolate chips... its 2 cups chocolate chips and 1 cup heavy cream...
Can use in tier cake base? Or butter paper?
Hi am interested in making passion fruit curls
Hi,
Can this dripping technique be use on whipped cream ?
I’ve actually never tried on whipped cream I’m thinking it might be too hot to work properly but you never know 🤷♀️ if you do decide to try let us know if it worked 😊
@@JaniesSweets that's what I thought 😬
This was a great video! Thanks for the inspiration! I'm going to try this too!
Chef Vic Cuisine kisses 😘 glad you found it helpful thank you for watching
Nice work love! This is simpler than it looks. I'm just beginning. You guys really know how to decorate. Where did you get that knife that you evened out the cake layers with and the bench scraper? I need both of those.
Sakari Bearden thank you for the compliment... 😘 I got the knife from shoprite my local grocery store and the scrapper from Amazon
Thanks love! I'm inspired. I'm going to try to make a cake similar to this one. I have a Wilton scraper. But I think the edges are too thick. I tried using it and the icing didn't have a smooth finish. So, I'm going to buy a scraper like the one you have.
Sakari Bearden nice!!!! Good luck with the cake... let me know how it turns out 😘
Hi Janie! Love the video! The outcome is stunning!! How do you get your cake layers so flat? Do you use baking strips?
Nushi W thank you so much for watching 😘 i don’t use cake strips my recipe bakes that flat I will share it in next Friday video 😊
Please make the passion fruit curd! Your cake is beautiful by the way!🙌🏾
Thank you I did check out the description box 😘
I hope you can share no painting tutorial gold drip
If you’re painting a ganache drip gold, does it have to be white chocolate ganache, or can it be a standard semisweet chocolate ganache?
No you can paint over the darker chocolate it will be a darker shade of gold that's all
Hi! For the ganache gold drip... Do you use white choc candy melts or regular white choc callets/chips?
Thank you for watching! I used regular white chocolate chips
Hi, yes, I would like to learn how to make passion fruit curd. Thank you.
esther macias the passion fruit video is up now 🤗 check out my latest video
Great video! Thanks!
Susan Androsky thank you for watching 😘
Thank you for your talent I want to use edible gold dust can I use with water ?? And how long will get to dry
noorjehan abdulla I think you have to use vodka or lemon extract with the luster dusts because water will take a long time to evaporate and dry
Janie's Sweets thank you for your idea 😊
You are making very easy recipes I love it your all recipes videos
Let's Cook thank you 🤗
How to make a buttercream covered in your cake?what kind of gold dust that you used and where to buy that....thank you

Hi there... I made this cake years ago I dont remember but it's from a Wilton set I got at Michael's craft store a while ago...
So pretty! Glad I found your channel
Sloth thank you love 😘😘 thank you for watching!
Hi, what brand of white chocolate and heavy cream do you use? Could you name the specific brands because I always have trouble with white chocolate drip. Thanks!
Deema Bakleh hi love the chocolate I use is nestle white chocolate chips and the heavy cream is the store brand (shoprite) hope that helps 😘
I would love to know how you make your passion fruit crud. TI A
LINDA PRIETO hi 👋 I have a video on it it’s in my recipe playlist
I enjoy your videos! Thank you for sharing 🙏🏼
Melinda Rivera thank you for watching love 😚😚😚
Will you do basic cake from from mixes it and puting in pans. Thank you
Yes I will make a video on that
So cute ❤️
❤️
How did you get that gold color on the white chocolate?
I used divine specialties listed dust
Very nice thank u
Thank you for watching ❤️
Omg amazing
I love the look of your cake... would you share the recipe?
Thank you 😘 I plan on making a vide soon but if you check out my white chocolate peppermint cake it's the same one just remove the peppermint extract... hope that helps!
Thank you so much ! I appreciate your fast reply ❤️❤️❤️
Question. After you poured chocolate do you put it in the fridge to dry or at room temperature?
Kuddos Kiddos it will dry at room temp especially if the cake itself is already cold... but if you want it to dry super fast you can pop it in the fridge... hope that helps 😘
Love! I've tried many times to get my gold to look like that and no matter what I do it's never smooth and thick enough. I've been using luster dust. What brand do you use? Gorgeous cake as always. Thanks for sharing!
kristen leigh thanks love... I use divine specialties gold and I add verry little alcohol to dilute it... You do have to be careful with that stuff though I wouldn't cover an ENTIRE cake with it as it's technically not EDIBLE it's just non toxic... meaning it won't kill you but for people with sensitive stomachs it might make them verry sick if they eat a lot of it... so only apply on stuff that the customer doesn't necessarily have to eat they can just kinda push to the side... hope it helps 😘
Janie's Sweets thank you so much! That helps a ton!
kristen leigh awesome!! I'm glad I could help 🤗
Hii, could you please please tell me if this cake stands well warm and humid weather?? When it is finally done, shall it be into the fridge?
Thank you very much
Karen Alfaro hi yes you should put it in the fridge the buttercream wont last in the humidity neither will the passion fruit curd
Janie's Sweets thank you very much for your reply 😘❤
Hi Janie, on the 2nd tier did have a cake board underneath or it was just the parchment paper please respond back because just last week while taking my iced cake of my lazy Susan it stuck and messed up my cake at the bottom because of the icing sticking
Hey there… there’s a cake board under the cake but I add the parchement paper as well…
@@JaniesSweets thanks my cake friend!
Your vanilla cake looks yum, can you share the recipe😍
Thank you ☺️ it’s a recipe from sugar geek show but I have a video on that called the science behind making the perfect vanilla cake

I will try it one of these days
Hi, yes please passion fruit curd would be lovely to make. Thank you!
Maris Rios it's up now 🤗 check out my latest video
Love your videos thanks for sharing xx
Shura Shoko thank you for watching 😚
Hi, how long does it take for the ganache to be firm? I can't find this information anywhere
It depends if your cake is cold if your room is warm and humid if you pop it in the fridge or not... so anywhere between a couple minutes (cold temp) and a couple hours (hot temp)
@@JaniesSweets thank you, I think the gold edible pain I have is the wrong kind, it was removing the ganache and not properly applying
Do u melt the chocolate with the cream or add the cream once it's melted?
Thank you for watching... I melt it together or I heat up the cream before then add the hot cream to the unsalted chocolate and the heat from the hot cream will melt the chocolate... hope that helps
@@JaniesSweets thank you.
Your cake looks yummy.. Have you shared the recipe her on here??
refilwe palesa Chilisa thank you...😁 not yet... I have to work on a video showing how I do it but it's the same recipe as I used on most of my cakes... check out the white chocolate peppermint cake for example it's the same one just omit the peppermint extract... hope that helps
You dont taste the everclear? I see alot of bakers now mixing vodka with the lustre dust for the shine. Im just curious if you taste it or not?
Lala Economides thank you for watching! I dont actually eat it so I wouldnt b able to really tell... cuz the brand of luster dust I use isnt edible just non toxic so I move it aside n eat around it... but I dont think you can taste it cuz it evaporates within seconds to be honest...
@@JaniesSweets OMG why serve non edible food?
Can I use water instead of vodka or any other alcoholic drinks Please help me
New subscriber love your videos your a great teacher TFS 💞
jennifer meadows 😘😘😘 thanks for watching
Are all lustre dust inedible? ?I always thought that it's non toxic and we can eat
No I think there are some that are edible now... the one I'm using is not edible... what they explain is that edible means it will digest in your system non toxic means it wont poison you but you won't digest it itll just go through you.... hope that helps 😁
Can u plz share the gold color’s link and procedure to make it
Hi it’s by the brand divine specialties it’s very easy to make just add alcohol (any clear alcohol ) to the powder until you form a paste and there you go
@@JaniesSweets thanks
What’s the substitute for alcohol?
beautiful! thank you!!
Thank you for watching 😘
Hi Janie. I just love this tutorial. My question is this a darker shade of gold. Waiting on you respond. Thanks.
Bernadette v thank you!! Yes I would say it's a darker shade
@@JaniesSweets Thanks for your prompt reply. Also would you be kind to send me one thank you I would appreciate very much

Sathia Selan I'm not sure love I haven't tried that yet but if you do let me know how it turns out 😁
You're really good 💝 cake from your passion fruit cake
Hi, what is the brand and name of the Gold? Thank you 😊 love you cake !!
ruby gilberto Thank you for watching 😘 I have a link to that gold dust in the description box 😁 it's a non toxic (not edible gold) it's super pigmented which is why I love it but you shouldnt eat it as it's only non toxic... there are other gold dusts that are 100% edible you could research them in case you want to be able to eat them
But the one u show in the video is not the same in the description box. Ideale is not edible and it is toxic
@@chicapaogarcia thanks for pointing it out... I have no idea why amazon did this its supposed to be divine specialties gold dust... I'll link it on their website instead
Cake layers look great. Do u have a recipe for that cake?
cutflower thanks love...😙 I plan on making a separate video for that but it's the same recipe I used in most of my cakes... Look for example the white chocolate peppermint cake... just omit the peppermint extract and it's the same exact cake... hope that helps
Janie's Sweets Ooooo OK! Thanks girl. This was the first of hour videos I every saw. I will surely be watching.
Do you let the drips dry at room temp or in the fridge?
Vanessa room temp 😝

From divine specialties
What icing recipe do you use
I use my easy meringue buttercream you can find the video tutorial on my channel 😄

The gold dust you like literally says Inedible on the front...
Potatophile yes love I know... it's not meant to be eaten... it also says non toxic on the front... meaning it wont kill you if it touches your food... i figured that the people watching the videos would know by now the whole back n forth that's been going on in the industry on this topic so I didnt bother talking about it... for me when I make these cakes I tell them they can eat around it they just dont eat the icing 🤷🏾♀️ if they want the look they gotta compromise on how much of the cake is edible... for some people it's worth it n they say go ahead for others it's not n they say nevermind... so it's up to you if you want to use it or not 🤗 but I see it as using any other thing that isnt edible like flowers or bling etc...

Hi, how much chocolate and heavy cream did you use for the drip in
this particular recipe? It seems to be the perfect consistency!
Kasthuri Ravishanker you'll be surprised to find out that I never measure them out lolol... I put about a cup of Hershey chocolate chips in a container n add enough heavy cream to cover it then zap it in the microwave... the exact measurements are 2 parts chocolate chips n 1 part heavy cream but I honestly would be lying if I told you I measured them out before melting them lolol... rule of thumb for me is I start with how I told you n if after melting it it's too liquid I add more chocolate until I get the desired consistency n vice versa if i find it's too thick after I've melted it
Thank you!
Kasthuri Ravishanker anytime 😘
Super nice
Liz Martinez thank you 😘
Can you please write the recipe for white ganache because it’s come with me too liquid 😕, Also I want to ask the drop will be too hard and broken when we cut the cake or easy to cut? Thank you so much 😘
