Hey there young man, great job explaining contract growing!!! As a dairy farmer, I don't know anything about the hog industry and found it very informative. I subscribed and my oldest son is watching you also. Keep up the great videos!

Hey man, awesome video. U are such good at explaining how, why and when about pigs. Im not a farmer, but work full time on a pig/cow farm. You aint that old, but still has a lot of experience and knowledge. Im turning 20 this year, and doesnt know as much as you do about pigs and how to operate. My goal is to be a full time farmer one day. You are killing it, keep up your work! ❤️ been in this industry for 2,5 years and im going to be for the rest of my life or as long as I can.
Hey brother I really appreciate the kind words means a lot to me! Just trying my best to show people what actually goes on! And promote ag in a positive light!
This is one of the most awsome channels I have seen so far!! Bar none!! Everyone watching out there skip the flaws and imperfections you see in these videos. He is improving bit by bit. What you do need to focus on is his content!
Cole Sonne suggested that his viewers watch your channel last week. So I watched your 2 most current vlogs; subscribed and watched the next 5 most current vlogs. Today I decided to backtrack to the beginning; but caught the title and felt I had to learn about what I was watching. I have lived in a major city for 78 years and never farmed, but have enjoyed watching farm (usually crop) vlogs. This vlog was like a 4 yr college course in Hog Farming. The content, production, explanation, editing all a quality representation of the Hog Industry. Well done 👍👍👍👍👍 X 3
Here in Spain a large part of the pigs raised is by contract companies. It is a competitive and efficient way of raising pigs and selling them, but as you say there are different farmers, farms and contracts, so control throughout the production chain (food, health = PRRS and care) is very important to avoid having economic losses. Sometimes the control does not have to be on the pigs... have to be on FARMERS = TEACHING (80% in my opinion). KEEP IT UP AND THINK IN PINK!
You did a great job of breaking it down for people who don't understand how contact growing works. The only thing I saw was wrong is when your said there is no market for outside pigs. I have a good friend who is a field rep whose company has a lot of contracts with outside pig growers and seems to actually like them. But they are the only integrator I know of that likes outside pigs.
Good job!!! CA is banning pork raised like you showed in 2022. How will that affect the market & is CA making a huge mistake in terms of diseased pork?
They're banning gestation crates. The sow farm I worked at was one of the first to convert to prop 12 compliance and provided free access stalls and open pen gestation. CA will see an incredible increase in pork prices and honestly they deserve it because the stress we had to put on our sows by moving them to a different barn and back because of some law created by uneducated politicians and voters halfway across the country really didn't sit right with me. The swine industry has many misconceptions and the CA law is a result of lack of consumer education

The only way I got my foot in the door with raising pigs ins a niche market. I get to avoid contracts and own my own pigs, because I sell directly to citizens.
That’s the beauty of Agriculture. Not every farmer is the same and we need people like you to feed the people in that niche market! Thanks for the comment buddy good luck with your operation.
I just inherited a pig and corn farm. It’s massive. The folks stopped because the conglomerate lowered their price for buying pigs drastically. I am confident I can make this a success after watching so many many utube videos. Maybe we can go into a win win business together

The actual pig owned by these companies are grown at a loss. The company makes up the loss on the processing end since they own the slaughter plant, also. Just a way for them to drive out independent small farmers that want to own and raise their own hogs
Just came across your channel and it looks interesting so I subscribed. I like all things about farming because I grew up on a farm. In Tennessee our main moneymaker was cotton, (I was born in 1945) but we had a milk cow, chickens and of course, pigs. Hard work but fond memories. Good luck with your channel and your pigs young fella. 😊
Im in the proces of buying my own pig farm here in Denmark over here we dont do contract growing my farm are a fatning facility where im buying the pigs at 7 kgs and finish them to slaugther over here it works like this you make a contract with a farmer there have sows about how many pigs you can take a year and how often for me it is gonna be around 450 every 3 week the price is always market price now 170 dkk a 7 kg pig a thing about Standard over here you get payed more at the meetworks if the pigs is good if you deliver bad sick or ingered pigs then you are gonna get in big trouble with the vetanerians there stand at the meetworks and inspect every pig there walks of the truck over her do you want to make your own feed and grow the grain for the feed if you buy finish feed you are not gonna make any money it is also like that that if you cant get Enough pigs from your contract then we got some pig traiders you can contact and then they often got some pigs on hand they need a ovner to we call it a pig ring
How do you pick the contractor? What do you look for in one? Who should you avoid? Who are the "big boys" in contractors and should you go with them or a smaller contractor? If you have already done a video on this, link please.
SuperSizeMe2 tells about the poultry side of contract farming that sound mega shady. Also I believe in pasture pigs is the healthiest way to manage pigs. Bugs not drugs. Very informative from your perspective of farming.
Thank you for this video. I just purchased some property and am trying to find ways to make money on it. This video had a lot of great information in it. I come from a non farming back ground and am not a young buck but looking to start something up to pass down to my kids one day and this could be a great idea. I was just curious if you have ever heard of anyone converting a 500 ft chicken coop into a hog barn. This property has a coop that hasn't been used in many years but is still in good shape. Thank you for any advice you can give.
I would call a hog confinement building company, and ask them the best way to retrofit the building for hogs. If it doesn't have slats and a pit underneath, you could raise hogs, but it may not be under contract for confinement hogs. If it doesn't have a pit, you could contact Niman Ranch and see if you could raise pigs for them.
Do you know why these big companies that own the pigs wouldn’t choose to build and run their own growing sheds and cut out the middle man which would therefore save them money? I’m trying to think of why they wouldn’t do that? 🤔 but I’m so glad they don’t because I love your channel so much!
The COMPANY, doesn't have all it's eggs in ONE basket. The owner of one farm has too many disaster risks that can wipe him out. A whole state of farms can go down, and the COMPANY has smaller loss because there hundreds of other farms around the country.
Pig farming is good i personally like pastor raising (not sure if thats what its called) but i usually am outside and looking after them cause its somewhat basic
If a house cost a million bucks how many hogs fit in the house? Also what is the cash flow on these? What type of profit can you make? Id like to see some numbers.
Hi bro. Thank for this great video. I already subscribed. I am from Turkey and making a research about contract farming in America so this video helps me a lot. I will come by when I go to USA and I would love to invite you over if you happen to come to Turkey. Take care buddy...
I am definitely a beginner. Planning to buy just a few pigs to butcher. Friends have asked if they could pay for a pig or half a pig and have me raise it. I just don't know what to charge or if I should write up a contract or how? Ideas?
Producing pigs like we do in iowa is borrowing against time. This operation and all the other CAFOs and AFOs contribute to the degredation of soil and especially water quality in our ravaged state. If we as a species would live in alignment with our values (caring for one another and future generations) as well as (preventing the unnecessary suffering of other beings) we could quickly redesign our food systems. It's heartbreaking to see what big agricultural has done to animals, small farmers, and the ecosystems on which we co-depend.
What I don't understand about the contract farming is why don't they offer contracting in smaller facilities? If a tractor trailer only holds 150 to 200 fat hogs, why not work with operators who build a barn that will hold 600 pigs? How much do they pay per pig? I heard it was only $9 over the entire feeding period.
How long time it needs to fully grow up for selling? We are baying them about 25-30 kilos fully grown up 130 kilos in about four monts Sorry for bad english Big thumb up from the pig farmer in Republic of Srpska
