Born and raised an Iowa farm boy in north east Iowa. farrowed hogs, grew corn and beans in the 70's Lived in Texas 15 years, Tennessee 28 years, Florida 3 years and soon on a beach in Mexico! What a ride!
Question? What about installing a modulating condensing boiler inside, so you can have a snow melt system as well as radiant floor heating on the floors to keep the pigs warm? As well as having an efficient heating system?
Congratulations on the new building being up and running . This channel is really starting to grow on me. I like the two hard working individuals the honesty" the anger" (when Tork loses his shit he cracks me up for a little fella 😁 ) Every video is getting better than the last both are of you are becoming more relaxed while doing the vloging . Keep up the great work cant wait for the next one
Hey we really appreciate the encouragement! It means a lot to us! We try to get better with every video. Im glad people are starting to see it. Im glad you enjoy our videos too love doing it!
Any plans to put in a methane digester. In CA the farmers are investing and making money on electricity. You still get the fertilizer, less the smell. Check at your state and federal levels with manufacturers for grants. Hemp may also be a great product to grow. Oil, protein, Fibre. Ask the slat builders for barns with digesters. The builder may be a good resource.
congratulations on the new barn! You should be able to find a threshold sweep at a home improvement center that would slid up over the bottom of the door.
Great job guys and thanks for sharing. Again I did enjoy watching you doing all this work to get this barn up and running. Thanks again and have a nice safe day!!
Congrats young man and also the older person, great to see its happening wish you a lot of succes and for the record i love watching the content you guys put up,thanks and greetings from a Dutch dairyfarmer
very good vid.... thx..... were you gonna do a cost break down vid and why you chose that location for new barn?.... i love the smell of bacon in the morning.....
They are poured in place on roofing felt. Using 2”x4” frames with blocks in the corners so as not to have a 90 point at the corners. Fiber in the mix. These pads are 57”x48”. They will last about 8 years if you do nothing to them. We typically Armor-Rock them after 3 years and then they’re good for another 10 years. Keeps a lot of wear off the slats. Thanks for the question and for watching!
How many pigs do you have eating on each bin ? At my barns, I have 1000 pigs on 24t bins and they will last around 8 days eating 3ts each day depending on how large they are.
Thanks for the question. All our barns have triple 26ton bins for 2400 hd. At market weight, eating 6lbs. per head per day. They will eat 7 ton a day, 3 1/2 days will empty 24 ton. Thanks for watching!
Lots of variables in that. Wean finish or grow finish? Pen size? Feeder style? All make a difference but I’d say 25 yrs on the low end and 40 on the high side. A wean finish barn will have 20 less groups of pigs through it in 20 years vs a grow finish barn.
I’m not 💯 sure but I think the only way currently to harvest the methane is to have another concrete pit outside the barn that you can cover. For our operation the economics just won’t work. Thanks for watching!
Does anyone start hog farming on this scale with no farming experience, but just general business owner experience? Is it possible to get a $750,000 loan for an operation like this without experience?
Congrats! Soon will be time for a sow unit to feed the finishers Check me out on LinkedIn Braxton Carlson Couple different videos of sow units we’ve done this past summer

We cap our panel doors as the eps does delaminated. Also darkling beetles burrow into the foam. Barn looks great.

Yes, we have both and will definitely do a comparison. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
Going to be in the part 2! Which is out right now! Thanks for watching!
on that swinging load out door why wouldn't they wrap the bottom and have the guy installing cut the top
Good question! Im not sure.. we'll have to ask them that.
@@thislldofarm they can wrap the bottom .it will be a channel with a sweep on it

Hi guys.
I love this programme of yours
It's my wish to come into piggery farming in Canada.
Awesome job guys and thanks for sharing. Do you have any idea the total cost of this one??
Nice barn
The pads under the feeders are concrete?
Do you have some information or footage on how it was poured?

We have rubber mats under the feeders and we have trouble with wear of slates and mats
Could be a nice addition
Greetings from Germany 👍🏼

What Tork said 👆😂
What is the average working lifetime of the slats

Pity you can’t harvest the gas from the pit to burn for heat

Hi
Howdy!
How many pigs do you guys have?
Around 10k at any given time. 4 barns.
We just use concrete walls in the rooms and pens lol
That door bottom looks poor the finish is nothing like the rest of your great place well done and good luck. Peter UK 🇬🇧
We'll put a cap on it here soon! Thanks for watching!
Yall should've used Di Drives instead of the curtain controllers.
