- Join us mudlarking below Bottoms Bridge in Yorkshire. Not only mudlarking, in this video, we show you the repair done to the lost toy Manky Panda. We found him while mudlarking in Yorkshire and he was in desperate need of repair. Follow his journey back to health.
As usual, we found a mix of things in the river, including a dog who decided he would rather stay with us than go home!
Join us as we find interesting things to do, see and eat! We have another channel, based on our EBay reselling business. Even so, there is more to life. All work and no play...well, you know the rest.
We love travel, adventure and interesting things to do. We are starting our channel now, with the intention of it becoming full time when we go on the road throughout Europe in our motorhome/RV when we retire in 2 years time. Till then, we are going to find loads of interesting things to do here in the UK.
If you have any suggestions of ideas for us to try out or places to visit, let us know in the comments. We love to hear from our viewers!
We love to metal detect! Do you have some land you would be willing to let us detect on? If so, please let us know :)

@@brendageorge9024 Thank you and thanks for subscribing!
I can spend hours watching y’all I find it very therapeutic. Phill’s jug handle reminds me of a saying my mama used about thing that were missing she would say “it’s off and gone like a jug handle “. Thanks as always for sharing y’all adventures. And for letting me just go on like we’re old friends.
The more the merrier Gary, it's great to have you with us on our travels 🙂
West Yorkshire looks lovely, i thought the tapered brick was interesting. Maybe you don't have to trust a man who loves dogs , but putting your faith in a man whom dogs love seems wise. Thanks for another lovely lark !
Thank you Harold :) Yes, it was the first brick we have seen like that. GLad you enjoyed our adventure :)
I hope cute Mudlarking Monty got home safely. I know it worried you for him to be away from his owner but, he sure was cute and very happy (per his waggy tail) to lark with you. Lovely watercolor at the end!
Thanks Malinda :) His owner came back for him after about half an hour, so he was OK :)
I love the Manky Panda 💞
Thank you Kathy :) He may make an appearance on tomorrow's (Friday) video :)
The Scottish Welsh countryside is so beautiful I really enjoy your videos and you do look like You're enjoying yourself with mud larking
Yes Sharon, we get a fair bit of rain in both Scotland and Wales, which has the benefit of lush green scenery. So glad you enjoy the videos, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
The holey piece of wood is definitely a mask for a Ninja Turtle and that dog is just too lovely! x
I think you are right, but the colour was worn off, so no idea which one ;) Yes, Monty was really cute :D
Yes, i enjoyed going on this lark with you and i appreciate the locals concern for you when they thought you were stuck in the river. Much love, Tammy🌻
Thank you Tammy :) Yes, it was so kind of people to stop and check we were ok :)
What a lovely day out in a beautiful location! Great to see poor panda lovingly restored too! xx
Thanks both! He's looking so much better now .... and smelling a LOT better too lol
I love your vlogs, so so entertaining, thank you xxx
Thank you Lesley :)
Well done with the Panda rescue
Thank you Sue :)
Zorros mask! Lol a little bit of humor for you.😁
And you can't have too much to laugh at Iris, it's such good medicine. Keep smiling and Thanks for watching🙂😎🐼
What a pretty watercolour, Caroline! Looking forward to seeing more of your artwork in future vids! Thanks to you and Phil, for sharing your lovely larks with us.
Thank you Brenda! Glad you liked my artwork. Hoping to spend more time painting as it is so relaxing :)
Phil found a brick!!!❤️ And well done on reviving Manky Panda. He looks Braw😊
Yes, that call of 'I've found a brick!' usually happens :) Thank you :)
I think your piece of wood is a neolithic super hero mask!
Aha! Thank you! I wonder if a museum would like to preserve it for posterity? :D
Very happy to see Panda come back to life! he looks very loved now !
Thank you :) He turned out quite well when you think how bad he was, and so cute now :)
Awesomeness as always, thank you for sharing 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
You're welcome Chris, and thank you 🙂🙃

Yes Rick, between dogs and pandas we never know what will turn up next. Glad you enjoyed the video 🙂
As Manky Panda lives to tell the tale ! And what a dashing panda he is , quite the little dandy 😊
Thanks! I'll let him know you approve of his new look :D
Oh Caroline and Phil...tank you for such a wonderful Wade in the water!!!!!! Some beautiful pottery finds!! God is blessing you!!!!! Caroline, I hope you will take us along on your art projects!!!!

Vielen Dank, Jette. Es ist schön, die Chance zu haben, zu schlammigen, auch wenn wir nicht an die Themse kommen.
Thanks for taking us on your adventure. 😃
Thank you!
OMG, marble envy😄
lol It is the prettiest one we have ever found!
Yay! an afternoon with The Johnsons! That wood mask sure looks like Batman was around and lost his mask!
Thank you! If he is maskless on his next movie, then we know where it is ...... in my house lol
Good fun, as always. !
Thanks Jane :)
Love your videos can't wait til next time . I enjoy the both of you , and your chatter it makes me smile .😊😊😀
Thank you luna katt! So glad you enjoy our videos :)
Looks like the dog adopted you both.
I think he liked the idea of being in the water with us lol His owner was far more sensible!
I love you guys but the dog and the panda made the video!
Yes, I agree Robin. We are no competition for a cute dog and cuddly panda :D
Nice to see I'm not the only person picking up old bricks and rescuing lost toys. I found some great bricks in the Abertillery area earlier today as it happens. Really enjoying all your videos, keep them coming.
Thank you Dave! We haven't checked out Abertillery yet. Sounds like it is a brick haven just like our valley :)
Lovely adventure xx 🇮🇲
Thank you Margaret :)
Brilliant at bottom bridge. Had some good finds as well.
Thanks for the trip out. It was lovely. xxxx
Thanks Alison! Glad you enjoyed our adventure :)
awesome guys fair play keep up the good work
Thank you Rufus! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Another excellent no fuss presentation. Thoroughly enjoy watching. Quality of video, the narrative and the scenery superb. All the best.
Thank you for your lovely comment Rob :)
I love this video, especially the part where "Monty" came with you! Thank you so much.
Thanks Kate :) Monty was the star of the show!
That was fun. You could have adopted Mudlarking Milton and had a mascot to frolic with in the water! I hope he didn’t get into too much trouble. It was so lovely where you were and good job Caroline for not slipping back down that hill. See you next time!
Thank you Lynn :) He was the perfect dog for mudlarkers. He loved being in the water! See you next time!
Thanks you both for a good adventure and outing. I like your artwork, Caroline, very nice!
Thank you Raven 696! Glad you enjoyed it.
Absolutely one of your greatest adventures yet! Beautiful scenery, great bricks and bits of pottery and for a while I thought you had a new mudlarking companion! That dog was doing what all of us want to do, have a trip down a river with you two! I also love your artwork and your panda restoration! What a wonderful way to spend half an hour!! Thank you!💕
Thank you Jackie! We had a great time meeting Monty :) So glad you enjoyed the video.

Ah yes, that perennial springtime battle we hold on grassy pitches :) My father used to go to Scotland every year for the match, and always swapped his hat and scarf with a Scottish person afterwards. It used to drive my Mum mad, as she had to get him a new Welsh one every year lol
Love watching both of you have fun.
Thank you Linda :)
This video was even good for the second time I watched it!
That's great Patricia... thanks for watching twice 🙂😎🐼
That was fun!! Thanks!! Cheers!

Sing Ho! For the life of a Bear!! Thank you for rescuing Manky Panda, and in so doing taking me back to the hundred acre wood, to Piglet and Pooh, who along with a Collie named Prince were among the best parts of my childhood. Do you recall the word "Expotition" from one of the Pooh books? I think that word so fits your wonderful adventures filled of whimsy and wit, history and water running. Thank you both for the amazing videos, I so look forward to the next one, and until then I shall Sing Ho! For the Life of a Bear!!
Thanks! How lovely to tie in panda and our adventures with Pooh bear! See you next time. Happy singing!!
Awwe such a sweet doggy. 🐶 Now I know about the wee panda 🐼
Yes, a true rags to riches story for little 'Manky Panda' ⭐🐼⭐
Most enjoyable. Thanks for getting cold feet for us.
Thank you Uncle Biblins :)
So glad to see Manky Panada restored - I thought you may have lost him. Also loved seeing Monty’s guest appearance today. 😊🐼🐶
Thanks Paula :) He was relegated to a big full of finds for a while, but we eventaully got him out and smartened him up :) Monty was quite a natural star!
Your theme song is lovely.
Thank you!
What a fantastic adventure this was! You found a new companion, Mudlarking Monty. Did Monty find his human? Thank you for the smiles and some history! Until next time!
Thank you! Yes, Monty got home safely :) See you next time :D
I love the watercolor painting at the beginning & end of your adventure! More of those please! Also, you may want to try some wool socks in your wellies to combat the cold water. I wear them and I stay nice and toasty even in a chilly spring fed stream.
Thank you :) I'll have to keep an eye out for wool socks. It can get pretty cold sometimes!
I would love to go mudlarking with you two. I do have wellies
In the current storm conditions, I think we will need waders!!! lol
Awww! Panda ted is awesome! I rescue old teddies 😊
Looks like the handle came off a bus!
Thaanks Binsy BadNews :) Glad to hear you are rescuing old teddies :D
Caroline, you could try with a pet brush to get the dirt out and make little panda more fluffy ;)
I really enjoy your Videos!
Thank you :) I'll try brushing him, which is more humane than banging him on a rock!
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons 😂😂😂
I love all the dogs that you both see on your walks. There are so many of them, and they all are adorable. Most of the dogs are wondering, who the heck is this lady talking to? Me? Does she have a ball? Do they want me to go with them? What's a dog to do?
I believe dogs can sense when people are genuinely good people. I think that dogs are just smart and know good people when they see them. That is why they stop by to say hi!
We definitely agree on dogs being smart, 🐶 and that one had his poor owner running around in circles, 🐕 no matter what he said, the dog just ignored him 😄 Thanks for watching 🙂🙃🐼
I hope Monty has a home to go too. Poor baby.
Don;t worry Pat, his owner came back for him and all was forgiven :)
Awesome
Well this was another great mudlarking adventure , also a great save for the flattened panda who now has a second chance to bring a smile to everyone watching your channel. Looking forward to watching your next outing.
Thank you Alan! Panda is recovering well after his surgery and eating us out of house and home ;)
I couldn't agree more about the hardest thing being finding a good place to mudlark and the second being how to get down to the river or stream when you get there! Also, I do find it's a bit hit or miss as to whether it's safe to go in with the rain in the UK!! I love your adventures!! It's such a joy to see so many bricks! I make a note of places you've been so that if I find myself there one day I can pop in for a bit of a paddle and some history-finding activities!! (I just hope Phil has left me the odd brick!) Thank you both, once again! Manky Panda should definitely be a mascot!!
I think you have to judge each situation carefully as to whether it is safe in the rain. I wouldn;t like to be in a narrow river near to hils when the rain is falling. When we were in Switzerland, there were signs us paying to stay out of the water when it rains as flash floods would come down from the alps and wash you away in no time! I hope you get chance to visit some of the places we go. Even if there is not a lot to find sometimes, the scenery makes up for it :) I'll let Manky Panda know he has your support :)
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons Oh I have seen flash floods happen on a sunny, dry day when it's rained further upstream!! I am always alert and aware... but it is much nicer in the warm weather!!
I will not be surprised if you have acquired a permanent canine companion...he probably thought people who wanted to get in the water were the best thing since squirrels.
Thank you Catherine :) Monty enjoyed his time with us, but was happy to go back home with his owner after a while.
Lovely watercolour, best of luck manky🐼 🥰
Thank you!
I love your channel but like you even more now you fixed that old teddy i smiled so much just what I would do bill is a kind man for taking him home hope that doggy was home safe xxx
Thank you Norma :) Panda is recovering well from his surgery and eating us out of house and home ;) Yes, Monty's owner came back for him, so he was safe.
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons ah good iam glad xx
Love the water color and they make great title cards for the videos: also would love to see a mosaic from the pottery shards!
Thank you Benny ! I have just finished my first mosaic but there is a little tweaking I need Phil to do to it before I show it. Probably a week Friday I'll get it in the video for you to see :)
Nice corkscrew marble
Thanks! It is the prettiest we have ever found :)
awe
Thank you :)
Just found your site. I’m subscribed and hooked. Well done both of you.
Thank you Sherry and thank you for subscribing! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Very nice addition of your watercolor.
Thank you Joseph :)
Another lovely video. I often wonder why no-one collects all the scrap metal and sells it. Some will be too badly corroded but at least it will be away from the river.
Glad you liked the video... There's certainly a lot of scrap, but it's difficult to retrieve sometimes... Stay safe & thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
Caroline, lovely artwork -- I recognized Phil straight away. Any ideas as to why it's called Bottoms Bridge? You are getting quite adept with that grabber, able to pick things up from far below. @23.27 was that a red bead in the mud, near where Phil found that patterned blue daisy pottery? Loved the rehab of Manky Panda. But what happened to Monty?
Thank you! I think this is called Bottoms as it is at the bottom of the hills and this is the bridge at Bottoms. It did look like a bead, but there were lots of them around, they were berries off a tree. Monty's owner came back for him, so he got home safely :)
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons That explains Bottoms. Where I grew up, there was a bridge referred to as Bottoms Bridge because everyone standing on the bridge would peer over the bridge railing to see the young fish in the water. I leave to you to picture that....
Beautiful drawing and what is the name of your other channel?
Celtic traders I believe: go the very top and click on their title: that will take you to their home page and across the top and you will see a selection for channels: open it and you can subscribe to their other channel. And Caroline your art is lovely and a great opening title card for your video! Please show more!
Thank you Lauralee! It's the Celtic Traders, but will soon get rebranded as my art channel :)
Thank you Benny :) I tried to paint something for tonight's video, but it turned out a disaster lol
Manky comes home!!
Yes, the start of a new life, a great adventure and a wonderful friendship... 🙂🐼😎
Measures the height of the water in the river, we have them in our creeks
Thank you! That would explain the numbers on it :)
Caroline and Phil...earlier in this video you were looking in the brick lined narrow leat of the river. There was a water depth measuring board there too.
I loved seeing your drawing Caroline. You are very talented.
Thankyou for sharing.
Thank you Sarah :) The painting is all my own, but I traced the outlines from a still taken from the video. I have a lot to learn about perspective etc!
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons Many professionals use such methods. There is skill in using those methods too. Don't be too hard on yourself! No one says you have to do things the most difficult way.
Beautiful video! Some of those marks on the canal walls seem to be runic symbols and perhaps makers mark in runic. Love the old panda, and I hoe Puppy made it home ok?
Thanks Debra :) Yes, they did have a rune look to them. I wonder what it was all about..... Yes, Monty's owner came back for him :)
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons I looked up the symbos and for the most part they are old english runes!, would be interesting to get all of them in a line to see what they say. the diamond shape means o, the fish is the letter D or meaning bomeland, the star like one means gear or year...another means p another Qs and another W so would be nice to see the whole "message" :)
Enjoying your videos! :-) Subscribed!
Thank you and thank you for subscribing!
I hear you mention about the river level been higher than the last time. Try ..... river levels UK ... and put in name of river has most now are checked - updated daily. This can sometimes save a journey .
Thanks Garry! We didn;t know about that. It will be very useful :)
Yes a ball
I’m so proud of you two now
Awesome aquarelle at the end , very-nice and really realistic
Hidden art
Big D
Thank yo Big D :) Glad you liked it.
Interesting brick, why is it shaped that way? Hmmm
Thanks Katherine :) Someone here suggested a keystone for the top of an arch .
Let's go with The Johnsons! That makes sense, Ta.
Monty seemed to like finding friends who share his interest in fossicking about in rivers. Lol. I suspect his owner is accustomed to his absences.
Yes, he loved company in the water. His owner said he's a little monkey for running off when he finds people doing interesting things lol
Look at this video at the 9:31 mark. There is a water depth marker just like the one you found on the wall. I believe thats what that is. 😃
Thanks Meems! Yes, that does seem to be the same thing :)
At the start of the video, the trees with the red berries, do you know what kind of tree and berries those are? I first saw those when I was in Scotland. They are beautiful.
They are so pretty :) I think they are Mountain Ash trees.
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons thank you!
Looks like one of the cotoneasters.
Who built the walls and why?
That is a mystery we are trying to look in to. I bet there is a really interesting story behind it!
So what eventually happened with the doggy?
Eventually his owner returned and reluctantly the dog left the river and headed for home 🙂
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons I was worried too
I love your videos, can you show a clean up at the end? And does Phil bring any of the bricks home? You could build quite the conversational patio with them
Thanks Kate :) I never seem to get myself organised enough for a clean up afterwards as we tend to make quite a few videos in a row and all our finds get jumbled up! Phil used to collect the bricks but we plan on moving into an RV next year, so that plan has been put on hold.
Manky panda LIVES!!!!!! Caroline should have gone to vet school!!!! Is my now known as the six million dollar panda?😀
Yes Ninfa, we could rebuild him a panda barely alive, as they used to say 😄 I'm sure he'll be famous one day and the whole world will learn of his rise from desperate obscurity to fame and celebrity ⭐🐼⭐
Give dry Manky a stiff brushing. That might help.
Thanks Sarah, I'll see what he thinks about that... ⭐🐼⭐
Can you provide the link for your other channel?
See their home page and click on the channel selection in the header, you can subscribe from there
It's here... ua-cam.com/channels/jrjX5pTGD2Hglhfrn3JcQw.htmlvideos?disable_polymer=1 but it will soon be commandeered for me to use as an art channel :)
PS: Manky Panda Rescue was very cute - wonder who you'll rescue next?! 😉
Any news on the flagon? And wishing a speedy recovery to MP
I'll be including a bit of video showing it getting glued back together soon :) I'll pass on your kind message to MP :D
#MankyPanda🐼
maybe we should start a campaign to get recognition for him by promoting #MankyPanda :)He could become world famous!
Were the fast flowing narrow channels of water to feed a mill or power wheel?
Yes, Benny :) Here in Wales, we call them a 'race'. It's amazing how much more powerful the waterh gets when channeled into a small space!
Loved the painting at the end Caroline and I'm guessing you did it. Another lovely mudlark in my old home area around hebden Bridge and Halifax. There is another place nearby called Slack Bottom which, when we were kids we thought was a very funny name.
Thank Jan :) Yes, my painting but I did cheat and traced the outlines! Slack Bottom, now that's a name! We'll have to check that out one day :)
worried about doggy did he get home safe
Don;t worry, his owner came back after about 30 mins, and we had a nice chat before they went on their way :)
The marks on the stones ( diamond, star, square etc) may well be stone mason marks to show what they had personally carved.
I think you're right Andy, as we've seen them in a few places. 🙂😎🐼
Please be safe all UK residents. This storm is supposed to be a big one.
Thank you Janet :) Yes, I think it is going to be worse than the last one!!!!
Where did the dog go. I hope to his owner.
Yes, his owner came back for him eventually :)
The piece of wood looks like a turtles mask for some kids movie here in the US. Today was a free day to all the museums in Georgia. So I walked my poor back off. I need one of Phil's Sheppard's crooks! Where do you get them? That particular brick is called a "keystone". It is the apex of an arch and locks all the others in the arch with pressure! The numbers are denoting the angle of the other sides. Is that a Yorkshire water dog? We call the hanging roller a "Chase". Pipes are suspended from ceilings and the rollers let the pipes expand and contract and not rub against a fixed rod. There is a discount store that opened here in my town recently and they sell wellies. When I saw them, that phrase "pop your wellies on" rang in my head.
Ah yes, a teenage mutant hero turtle mask. Where on earth did they get the idea for that?!? lol We got Phil's crook from an auction along with a bunch of much more boring ones. Phil bought the lot just for that one :) Ah right, a keystone! That makes sense, especially with the numbers too. Thanks for the info. The dog was a Springer Spaniel. Ah, a chase! I'll have to remember that (a challenge with my memory lol) Funny that we spring to mind whenever you see wellies lol
I was making a joke about the breed of dog. Maybe a Philhound? Thanks for the info. I have some detecting buddies going to England to detect. Maybe they can find one.
Now I know how the panda came about, somehow I missed this one.
Glad you found it Susan, he's a genuine rags to riches little bear, and we love him. 🙂😎🐼
That was lovely - and is that your water colour Caroline? Very talented - do hope Monty was OK, he was hoping you'd throw sticks or a ball, really took to your Phil! Have a great day - I'll share this with my Ma who's not able to get out much at the moment and is feeling very down in the dumps, so hope this will help cheer her up - especially with the weather being so wild in the UK presently. Have a lovely week, guys. 😉🐾🐾👍🦘🍀😎
Thank you! Yes, my painting but I had to trace the image from a still of the video. I still have a lot to learn about drawing. Awww, sorry to hear your Ma is feeling down in the dumps. I hope we manage to brighten her up a little :) Tell her we said hello :D You have a great week too!
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons Thank you! I will, Caroline - prob will catch up tomorrow. Summer's back down here! :) I don't think it matters really how you did it, as the result was lovely - and that's a skill in itself! :)
👍Good Job as Usual!
I enjoyed the Lark very much.
🇬🇧♥️🇬🇧
Thank you Robert!
I thought that piece of drift wood was a mask. What happened to the dog? Did you finially find it's owner?
Yes Tina, the owner did come back from his walk eventually 🐶
What does Phil do with the brick? Love your videos.
Phil no longer collects the bricks, as we plan on going full time in a motorhome/RV next year, so they will be a bit heavy to take with us.
Have fun in your RV. I hope you will take us with you on your adventures. I enjoy your videos!
