- Join us as we go mudlarking after a huge storm. There were lots of finds, far too many to take them all home with us! After a storm is the ideal time to mudlark, as lots of fresh items will be exposed. I hope you enjoy seeing what we found :)
Join us as we find interesting things to do, see and eat! We have another channel, based on our EBay reselling business. Even so, there is more to life. All work and no play...well, you know the rest.
We love travel, adventure and interesting things to do. We are starting our channel now, with the intention of it becoming full time when we go on the road throughout Europe in our motorhome/RV when we retire in 2 years time. Till then, we are going to find loads of interesting things to do here in the UK.
If you have any suggestions of ideas for us to try out or places to visit, let us know in the comments. We love to hear from our viewers!
We love to metal detect! Do you have some land you would be willing to let us detect on? If so, please let us know :)
Big bottle dump you could lost. Space and a lot of history out here. That was a pretty little bowl. Also a pipe too. Ilike the bottles you two found. Thank for sharing your video with us all. Happy thankgiving. Your friend Shirley from new Bern, north Carolina USA.❤❤😮🎉🎉😅😊
,
There were some great finds that day Shirley. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. 🤠😎🐼
Please visit this beach again , I didn't want you all to leave . You found lots of pretty treasures . Can't wait for next video .
Thanks Luna cat :) We didn't want to leave either lol
Let's go with The Johnsons! Don’t forget the torch 😉
I think I found the poem. Something about advertising for lights by a T.B. Browne. "When Nights are dark, Then think of Clarke, Who's hit the mark precisely; For his Night Lights, Create light nights, In which you see quite nicely." Circa 1890's.
Brilliant!!!!! I couldn;t find it anywhere. It's a lovey poem, and I bet it got them lots of sales as it sounded like such a cosy thing to have :)
I must say that you have truly impressed me. The fact that you have taken the time to respond to EVERY single comment is amazing and shows your passion for what you do and your viewers. ♥️ I just love to watch you!
Thank you Margie, your kind words and appreciation means a lot to us. Replying to the comments is important to us, as we want the channel to create a sense of belonging and involvement... Hopefully our viewers will feel part of the adventure as they answer the invitation to "Let's go with the Johnson's" Take care and stay safe 🙂😎🐼
you two are so cheerful and great together ...cheers me up no end ..thanks
Thank you Marie! Good to know we cheer you up :D
Please, please visit this location again. So many wonderful things to find! Loved this video and your humor. You’re so enthusiastic and you share such a fun hobby! As long as you continue making videos and I will continue watching!😊
Thank you Rosemary! So glad you enjoy the videos and thanks for watching :)
This was an incredible lark. I don't know how you can stand leaving so much there. Hope you can go back again!!
It was an amazing location Kathryn, and we planned to go back in March but Covid restrictions stopped that, we've made a few attempts since and are now looking at a December trip, but we may have to cancel again, if things don't improve... We'll get back some day 🙂😎🐼
"I told him to stay calm, but did he listen? Noooo." 😂😂😂
I inherited my father's sense of humour. I don't know if that is a good or bad thing lol
Eureka! I found the saying on the mug! It's from an advertisement for Clarke's Pyramid and Fairy Light Co., the whole poem is: "When nights are dark, then think of Clarke, Who's hit the mark precisely; For his night-lights create Light-Nights, In which you see quite nicely." It's on page 161 of Art in Advertising: An Illustrated Monthly for Business Men, Volumes 5-6
, Art in Advertising Company, 1892. The poem may have been written by T.B. Browne, head of a London advertising agency. How cool is that?!
Well done!!!! Yes, that is very cool :D I had no luck researching it so am very impressed!
I'm afraid my husband would have had to drag me away from that mudlark. Wish I could find a place like that here in the states. Yet another lovely video. next best thing to being able to go mudlarking yourself. What a blast 😊👍
Thank you Christine :) Phil was as bad as me and kept saying, 5 minutes more lol GLad you enjoyed the video :)
Oh I really enjoy your videos! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us! I´d love to go mudlarking with you. :)

I'm so looking forward to taking my grandchildren mudlarking when the weather cheers up. They learn much more about local history when they are digging it up themselves x
That sounds like a lot of fun! I bet your grandchildren will have a great love for history when they have been part of discovering it for themselves :)
Thank you!!! I get just as excited as you guys get!!😃This was a great site to be at!!! Hope you can go back soon!!!

Great haul of interesting items 😍. After 'Storm Dennis' this weekend, the rivers in West Yorkshire will hopefully unearth some more great finds 🤪
Thank you Annie's :) Yes, I think there will be brilliant treasures after all that high water!
What a lovely place to find goodies! You’ll have to go back there again! I agree children should go to places like this. The kids would have a fantastic time finding all those bits and bottles and learn some history. Especially taking the treasures home to admire and enjoy!
Thank you! Plans are already afoot ;D I would have loved to do this when I was a child. I can only imagine what it would have inspired me to become! I bet I'd have enjoyed History a lot more lol
Let's go with The Johnsons! It’s a fantasy spot for finding those beautiful bottles! Looking forward to it! And yes when I was a wee one I loved combing the beaches looking for pretty ricks, driftwood and shells. I’m planning g in doing that this summer when our snow disappears 😊
I love you guys so much I started watching you guys awhile ago and I did some of my own rive treasure looking and found and old bottle and pottery .

Wow, your the first mudlarkers that I've watced that have ever done on underwater shot; amazing. Thank You.
Thank you for the lovely comment Tina... We enjoy our mudlarking, but our real passion is making videos, so we always want to break new ground and make the viewing experience better. So it's great when people like something we do, as it encourages us to do more... Thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
Another good lark with lots of great finds.

Yes, it is Verna, we can't wait for things to improve and to be able to travel again to some of the wonderful places we've visited in the past. Stay safe and thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼

Your expeditions are so exciting, I get addicted to finding all the treasures with you. .....Then you go and find the two marvelous clay pipes! I let out a big squeal. What a marvelous video. Thank you Gaudalupe! It is so touching to know that we are having such a positive effect on your life :D I hope you continue to enjoy our videos :D
I was almost certain we were going to hear a loud splash in the background as Phil got a REALLY close look at a find still underwater. What a tremendous spot...I see why you had to tear yourselves away. Thanks for taking us along!
He is notorious for falling in lol One fo these days it;s going to be a spectacular dunk lol Glad you enjoyed the video :)
You two are so much fun to watch, keep it up my friends...
Thank you Diane.. you're too kind 🙂🙃🐼
I love the little bottles! Thanks for taking me along!
Thank you Beth!
Thanks for another wonderful adventure you two!!
That toy wheel at 3:40. reminded me of the wheel from my old 1970s Tonka truck.
Louie :)
Thank you Louie! Ah yes, it could well be from a Tonka truck :)
Hello. You have loads of things to look through today. The thing that Phil had that said free from anthrax. I do believe that was a shaving brush bottom. I couldn't see it very well. I'm just guessing. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you so very much for putting them out.
Thank you Teresa :) Yes, i think you are right. So glad you enjoy our videos :D
Mick would have great trouble getting me off that river beach .. I would have sent him for extra bags . Windchime 1/3 done
I’m so jealous what lovely finds.
Thank you Heather, we were so excited to see all the treasures :D
All of those pretty little china bits... I'd buy them from you! They are wonderful for crafting!
Yes, some of the china bits are stunning and such vibrant colours. This week I found 2 pieces that had characters on them, which were really nice. 🙂😎🐼
What a good place to find things.
Yes, that was back in the days when we could travel far and wide 🚙 thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
Oh well Ive had my swim for the week now thanks Caroline & Phil. Lovely place to mudlark!
I hope you didn;t get too cold in that water, it was freezing lol Thank you :)
Free From Anthrax was from WW1. They were using Horse Hair for Shaving Brushes for the Soldiers. They needed to be clean shaven so the Gas Masks could fit better. Any nicks from razors could be deadly if the brushes were contaminated.
Thank you Dori! That is a really interesting bit of history! Thanks for letting us know :)
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons I learned that tidbit from another Mudlarking Subscription.
Hi nice vid, the "Free from anthrax" is part of a shaving brush or shaving set, Some brushes during the war, sorry can't remember 1st or 2nd WW, brushes were made with horse hair and horses can carry anthrax, a slight knick and an infected brush would have dire results.
Thank you!!! The perils of shaving!!!!! You can see why they would brag about being Anthrax free then :)
Paradise! So many treasures!!
Yes, it was an amazing day at a wonderful site... Glad you enjoyed it 🙂😎🐼
What a fun place. I would have trouble staying away! I am a hoarder, I mean collector of many things.k
You're not a hoarder if it is a collection!?!😂🤣
Exactly, a collector :D
Soo true :D
Wow! I'd so love to be there! So many bottles to choose from.
I bet you would have had a great time :)
Absolutely love watching and listening to you both, would love to see you in Kent x
Thank you Hayley :) We'll put Kent on our list of places to get to :)
Love that location!!!! Hope you can return soon. Treasures seem to be everywhere you turn.
Yes Ninfa it is an amazing location... We were due to go back in April, but Covid stopped that, so we've postponed our trip twice since then and now it looks like we can't go again, as there are local lock downs in the area! So our latest plan is to go there for my 60th birthday in December 🙂🙃🐼
wowowowowow! what a lot of beauties! Lucky you!
Thank you! We had such fun!
I always enjoy watching your adventures mudlarking in the creeks . There were some very nice bottles that you found along the creek and when you placed the camera under the water looking at all the different pottery shards there were also some new bottles down there as well . Thanks for bringing us along with you . Till the next one , have a good one.
Thank you Alan :) Glad you enjoy our adventures :D I love sdeeing under the water, but it's not till I get j=home and check the footage that I can really see what is down there. One day I am going to miss some treasure and kick myself lol
Oh.... you have to go back. Look at all the good stuff in the water. Bring higher boots next time. ❤️
Thanks Joanne :) we are making plans for our next visit there :D
Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Happy belated Valentines day!
♥️
I love that you found a bowl for your watercolors! My favorite find for that was a split coconut shell!
Thank you Margaret :) I wonder who had that coconut shell originally? Did it come from a travelling fair? A real treat for the imagination :D
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons I got the coconut fresh at a roadside stand in Maui, 20 years ago. They roasted it....tasted like almonds! I was left with 2 perfect watercolor bowls. I thought I was very earthy using them. Unfortunately, I left them behind. I've always missed them.
LOL! Your banter is to die for (or perhaps rather to LIVE for!). Thanks so much for taking us along. And yes. Next time, bring sleeping bags!
Thank you EB A! We could set up camp for days there and not see it all :)
Great outing folks I really thought Phil was going head first at the end. Xxx🇮🇲
Thanks Margaret! Phil has fallen in from time to time, but as of yet, no head first dives. I reckon it will happen one day lol
Those are amazing finds!! I can't wait to see some of your mosaic work !!!
Thank you Cheryl :) THere will be a mosaic in next week's video :)
I am so jealous we don’t have places like that here, beautiful rivers and countryside but not the treasures, those little bottles and pieces of china are my idea of heaven. I am loving your videos. Greeting from Downunder 🇦🇺
It is a wonderful place Catherine, and it's a real joy to be able to share the experience with so many lovely people around the world. Thanks for watching Down-under... stay safe🌻🙂🌼😎🌷🐼🌻

Thanks Brenda :) We will be going back there soon :)
Awesome adventure. All those lovely bottles and pieces of china and glass.
Thank you Coni! Glad you enjoyed it :)
The glass doggy perfume bottle reminds me of a green one i gave Mum for Xmas when i was little, from Woolworths when they had the slanting counters...in the early 60s
That's just brilliant, we absolutely love it when a find stirs a happy memory... Priceless 🙂😎🐼
Lovely striped Rain Boots....this place - the water, she sure turns hip a lot of special finds...great walkabout!
Thank you!
That had to be so much fun!
Indeed it was Cheryl. Those were the days when at that location, it felt like finds were underfoot everywhere you turned. We had a wonderful time, and we're so happy to hear that you enjoyed watching it too. 🙂😎🐼
Estupenda búsqueda !
Gracias!
Love going mudlarking with you and love Phil's history and bricks. Thanks for sharing. From Arkansas, USA home of diamonds
Hello there in Arkansas Penny! Thank you :) The home of diamonds. Sounds wonderful :D
The bit of clear glass Coronation plate could maybe be for Edward VII..? Beautiful!
Thanks Dawn, glad you liked it 🙂😎🐼
You take children there and start them off mudlarking they may end up being hoarders. There is a lot of wonderful history to explore in England. I really enjoyed the underwater view wish there had been more of it and slower. Thanks
Yes, Judy, passing on a lifetime of collecting interesting things to fill the house up lol
Hello from Southern California 🙋🏻♀️You two are always having a grand time. And I just Luv the enthusiasm of your adventures. All those bottles and bits of pottery my craft ideas were going crazy.
Hello there in Southern California! We enjoy mudlarking so much! That island was a crafter's dream :)
Great vid 🤗 thank-you for sharing your finds what a great place .. from fellow Welsh mud larker ..
Thank you Helen :) Happy Hunting!
Hi guys, good and interesting stuff. The big lid you showed in this video was off a chinese food pot.I have du these where I live in New Zealand. And they are found in mainly in chinese dump sites, but the contents of these pots were also used by Europeans.
That's great Bob, thanks for the info, and thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
The pipes are wonderful. Can’t wait to see if you can find the history. I’ve never seen one with an oak leaf foot❤️
Thasnk you Katherine :) I plan on checking them out as soon as I get some spare time :)
I would never leave that beach!! So many things I wanted to pick up and look at! Great finds!
it really was difficult to walk away from it all!
Great video really enjoyed this one 👍 some great finds, and some lovely pottery.
Thank you both, we're so glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
What a fab day! The pipes were icing on an already delicious cake. x
Thank you :)
Love this area! Hope you do another video here!
We were going back 6 weeks ago, but the lock-down stopped our trip, and we're still not allowed to use the car for mudlarking. But as soon as it's safe and the rules are relaxed we'll be back there making new videos of new finds. Thanks for watching! Stay safe 🙂😎🐼
Wonderful finds!! You could spend a month out there and only scratch the surface!
Thak you Valerie! Just what we could see was lovely. Can you imagine what was down a few inches!
19:42 is an electrical insulator used to wrap bare live wires around from point to point. One use is along an electric fence.
Thanks Maunster! That makes more sense than a ceramic cotton reel lol
The on balance scales are portable scales for someone watching their weight. So you can weigh your food while out & about. You can check whether the potato is too big before buying etc. Or that is how I have seen them used anyway. Useful if you are being precise.
Thanks for the info Sarah 🙂😎🐼
What a fascinating accumulation of stuff. Makes one wonder where it all came from?
Thank you Joseph :) There is an old dump further up stream that is leaking into the river. It'a amazing what gets washed out!
Caroline the green bottle bottom gave me an idea. It’s yours if you want it, it might not be that great but anyway - file down similar sized bottle bottoms & made a set of checkers 🤔 just a thought ✌️💚
Great idea Dish, for the bottle with a big dip in the base, and more evidence that great minds think alike, as that's just what I did, and the tealight candle fitted in the dip... Nice idea for a checkers set too, and I have to admit, I hadn't thought of that one... thanks 🙂😎🐼
Another fab mudlark. Caroline you exercised great self control. There were so many fantastic finds. My favourites were the ink pots and my old favourites, the paste pots. It would break my heart to leave them behind, I just love them. Do you think you have become more selective now than when you first started mudlarking? Was there something in the early days that you used to get excited to find but that you now leave behind?x
Thank you Antoinette :) We have definitley become more selective. When we first started, we collected absolutely everything, leading to a garage full of stuff! I now leave behind the ridged pottery. There isn;t a garage big enough to contain all the bits we have found lol
thanks for taking us along
Thanks Bob!
Awesome day out, great stuff. Thank you for sharing, I subscribed 👍🏼😊🇳🇿
Hello the re in New Zealand and thank you for subscribing!
Oh fab place to visit hope you got back there for a full day !
Glad you enjoyed the video Irene. We had a return trip planned, but the lock-down meant we had to cancel. And we have another visit scheduled for July, but we have to wait and see, as our travel limit is 5 miles in Wales at the moment. But we will be going back to make another video as soon as it's safe... Thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons I love watching your videos and seeing the beautiful places you visit. Would love to see your mosaic projects as I have done these and just love them. Even done one on and outside garden wall !!!!

Hello there in Australia! Thank you :) Hopefully we will visit somewhere that your family have links to one day :D
What a fantastic video.I can identify the glass piece that had a "D" on it you thought might be a commemorative plate. It's not but it's from a beautiful glass plate that says "Give us this day our daily bread. Mine was passed down from my grandmother that sits in my cabinet and I believe it to be c1880 hope this helps ~ Lin xx
Glad you enjoyed the video Lin, and thanks for the info on the plate, that's great! Stay safe and thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
I so enjoy going along with you on your journeys! 🐞💜🍀
