Hey brother, the dealership was gonna charge me over $250 dollars to replace this thing and they wouldn't even tell me the proper nomenclature of the part so that I could find and possibly do it myself! What a rip-off they were trying to pull over on me!! I found your vid here totally by accident as I was researching info for replacing the windshield wiper cowl grille panel on my 2014 Challenger SXT. I'd kinda given up on the hood seal as I really couldn't find any info on it. But that was only because I was calling it every thing BUT the right thing! Lol. Thanks sooooo much for this video. Definitely going to take care of this while working on the windshield panel. Much appreciated my friend! keep the info coming brother!
You truly are the one stop shop for anything Challenger related! Bought a 2016 RT back in February and noticed a flapping from the hood yesterday. Google how to change this and of course your video pops up top of the searches!
Thanks for this video, and the links to the seal and rivets. I got a 16' scatty with a extended warranty. The dealer hemmed and hawed about whether it would be covered, then told me to do the research, then told me if it's not covered, it would be about 2 hours work plus the$95 for the part. I ordered everything and all in, it took me 20 minutes to replace for less than $100. So I appreciate this.
Wow! And here I thought I was the only one who’s hood seal was coming apart, never thought to have the dealer replace it during my bumper to bumper warranty.
Lmao! So ironic because I was driving to Walmart this morning and there was something flapping from my hood. Got there and realized it was my hood seal. Smh. This video was just what I was looking for. Just ordered everything and will be replacing this week. Thanks! Saving me a ton of money!!💸💸💸💸
We had to do this on my 2015 RT this summer. Half of it was gone when we bought the car last August. I couldn’t stand looking at the gap it leaves without it correctly installed. Looks so much better with the new in place.
Thanks for another great vid! Also, thanks for the thoughtful camera placement. I can't stand it when someone does an install video but doesn't actually let the viewer see what is going on. When I bought my '14 Challenger back in August of last year, replacing this hood seal was the first thing I had to do. I know that all rubber/plastic seals will eventually wear out, but it's a shame that my car was only 4yrs old (at the time), & this seal had already started splitting at the ends (C'mon FCA, can't you produce this seal & make it last more than 4yrs?!?). I think this a pretty common issue with the Challenger - who knows, maybe the Charger, 300, etc too. I'm sure that owners of those cars can tell us. I bought that same tool, & it worked, but I found the handles somewhat difficult to squeeze. Anybody else have the same problem? Anyway, thanks again for another straightforward, informational, & easy to understand video.
I have personally replaced a couple dozen of these as I work for FCA its not really a big deal I have a pair of rivet clippers that cuts them right off 3 minutes in and out
This must be a very typical thing as the seal on my 2015 Shaker was bad when I bought it new. Just bought the tool, rivits and seal from your links. Thanks for the discount code! Another great video!
Thanks man! It's a very common issue, the part number in the description is the "new" version so hopefully they figured out how to make it last longer ;)
Noticed a strange noise on my way home in the dark. Noticed the dang thing hanging out when I got in the garage. Got the hood nice and scuffed up. Guess I'm getting the DA out this weekend and installing new seal. FML! Thanks for the great video.
Just wanna say, you did an awesome job explaining how to replace it. Overall I spent $35 dollars and was so easy to do! And I’m a girl so anyone can do it easily 👍🏼.
I finally got this project completed. Be aware of ordering this part from Amazon. The seal was supposed to come with the nylon rivets. First time around no rivets. Returned and ordered a second time and the rivets were defective. The nylon stem, nail looking object was separate from the rivet head. The stem and rivet head must be attached. It is not possible to hold the stem in the rivet head while using the the tool. Also the rivets that come with the Harbor Freight tool are metric size and will not fit in the. Hopefully this information will make the project easier for somebody else!
I was very nervous too, but it was an easy install I would have had a video on it, but I installed them at HonestlyOCDs house and the footage was filled with 4 letter words not suitable to my audience ;)
I thought you returned the Scatpack to the leasing company. Nice to see you kept her! Great video and tips again. I’ll get the parts so I’ll have them in stock I once my seal breaks. Difficult to have them shipped to Europe. Have you looked into making the gap smaller between the hood and front fascia? I did that by replacing the other rivets with stainless bolts and rubber-coated grommets.
I have a sort of related question. I am sure you have a ton of contacts in the Mopar field, that being said, do you know of anyone that has a 2019 Scat Pack that changed the front nose to a hellcat? If so could you guide me in the right direction of where I need to start my research? Any info will help.
I have noticed your paint in several vids. What did you do and use to keep it swirl free other than the two bucket wash. I don't believe I have seen any orange peel either. Did you do anything for it or was it there and I just didn't/couldn't see it? Nice informative vid. I have a rivet the factory missed in the wheel well that I thought was a push pin but now I know it's a rivet.
My paint had some swirls, when I picked up the car it was really bad. A little paint correction and then a carnuba based wax will cover up leaving a nice glossy finish. The carnuba wax only lasts a few weeks tho. The best option (expensive) is paint correction and ceramic coating.
@@jcasey460 I picked up the Torq Random Orbital polisher kit from Amazon - amzn.to/2GNWbNQ This new kit actually comes with everything. For for most of the car I was able to use VSS - amzn.to/35jiu7r with the orange Hex logic pads amzn.to/2Uh2cpy. The VSS breaks down into finer polish as you make additional passes. For the heavier scratches I worked my through the polishes using 36 first, if that didn't work I would go down to 34, and in a rare deeper scratch use the 32, then work my way back up using the appropriate pad and polish combo. Finally I top coated it with Jet seal - amzn.to/35k5OgG and used a carnuba based wax to finish it off. (I'm not sponsored by Chemical guys, though I should be by now) I just started using their products and they have been working great for me. Hope that helps!
Great Video and thanks for the info I just ordered mine.! 🤙🏾. Quick question. What did you use to change the color of furs boxes, caps, etc. Reg. Spray paint or something else.?
Just about to place the order for my own new seal. Stealership want $320 to do the job. Only question is what size drill bit did you use? By the way- THANKS FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO.
Anytime man! I don’t remember the exact size but what I did was I found a drillbit that was just a teeny bit larger than the hole. And I drilled very carefully

Just did it, was skeptical about drilling out the rivets, but they came out in one piece. Great video. thank you!!

You will need the plastic rivet tool since the shafts are much thicker on the plastic rivets.
