I’ve been screwed around with and taken advantage of in music scenes, and then had to film their shows when I worked on stage crew, sit thru their songs about what happened while waiting to go on next, keep my mouth shut when everybody praised them, etc. it’s the most aggravating thing ever. Everyone says they hate rapists, until it’s their friend or someone they’re a fan of, then suddenly the victim is the one causing issues
That's exactly what I was thinking. It must have been horrific. When Hasan mentioned that part about how Channel 4 was using clips where Russell was talking about sex, my first thought was that the implication is in how he was a predator and his discussions about sex and promiscuity are just a veil, and behind that veil is a predator. Not that they were insinuating how frequent sex in and of itself is bad or is correlated to being immoral.
As a woman who was assaulted by her bf during a fight I really did not think anyone would believe me since I had done it with him concentually before. He did it one other time before I was able to get out. I hope that something is done with Brand but I sadly don't think it will. I only recently have been able to talk about it in therapy myself.

I turned 18 in the year 2000. Went to university in the early 2000s. I can tell you from experience, it was a nightmare time for women to be coming of age. When I was 19 back in 2002, as a guy I realized how dudes behaved on the dance floors in nightclubs. One time I was out with a few mates. I was dancing near a couple of women in the middle of the dance floor which was almost empty. Then suddenly a ring of dudes were surrounding them which got me surrounded by the dudes with the two women. It went so quick. They looked around, I looked around. It was like we were in hell being attacked by horny demons. When I saw the concerned looks of the two women, I learned from that day that was something not to ever do. I was about 14 or 15 I think when he presented Big Brother's Big Mouth, and I used to watch Big Brother just so that I could watch Big Mouth because I found him so funny. I was just a teenager and thought it was edgy/dark humour. I even went to watch an episode of his show Ponderland be filmed, and remember him standing outside to greet the audience as they left, so I shook his hand and said hello and thought it was cool that I had met him. In hindsight he was probably scouting for girls.
It actually makes my skin crawl to see clips of his stand up shows now. Hiding in plain sight indeed.

There was a time that I was 16 dating an 18 year old because we started as a 16 almost 17 year old dating a newly 15 year old. We were very clear that I would not be doing anything sexual until I was at least 16. So age gaps can be strange… but it works if you aren’t with a gd creep.
