    Literally the best tom comparison video I have ever seen on the internet. Your tunings were identical, the drum was identical, the environment was the same and you got to the point quick.
    You should do Remo Pinstripes VS Evans EC2 next.

    Remo has a crown for a reason!
    Whilst I agree that both manufacturers make great heads, Remo’s more open sound makes it just that sliver more versatile in comparison to Evans. You can always add dampening, but you can never add sustain to a wide open head. I can see how some would like that extra focus out of the box, but it sounds more synthetic to me. That goes with the coating too, Remo coating sounds and feels less synthetic and plasticky.
    Speaking of feel, again I can understand why some would prefer the stiffer feel to an Evans head. I much prefer the spongier give that comes from a Remo, especially for those of us who have wrist problems!

    • @StumptownDrummer

      Disagree. Remo heads sound like wet paper bags and they don't stay in tune.

    • @mattdamico1526
      @mattdamico1526 16 днів тому

      I agree! Plus, I tried the UV heads and could not stand the plasticy sound and feel from it. Maybe it’s because I grew up on Remo and it’s what I remember it should sound like.

      The FEEL is major thing to me. I love the sound of Evans, I played them for a good over 10 years! One of the things that pulled me away was how the head felt under my hands.
      I would be playing 3-4hr shows almost back to back weekly and my hands would hurt because the heads felt tough. It was harder for me be expressive with ease, to a degree!
      Since I switched back to Remo it just feels so good under my hands. It allows me to flow :D

      You never know for sure until you do a blind test. Both heads are excellent and I'd be fine with either one on a kit I was playing. I've leaned slightly more towards Evans over the years but Remo is classic and well regarded for a reason. Honestly in this test I'd be hard pressed to be able to discern the difference if I couldn't see them.

  • @Lumerdrums
    @Lumerdrums 17 днів тому +12

    the UV2 wins for me. The best tom heads I had in years. And the UV coating last 100 times longer than the remo stuff. Quality wise remo let me down too often lately, so I switched completely to evans. Remos coating wears off way too quick, their dots on the controlled sound snare heads came off after 2 weeks (twice in a row) and evans heads sit more nicely on the edge, so the tuning stability and controlled sustain is superior. My UV2 tom heads look just like brand new after numerous studio and live sessions. Evans did their homework

  • @Avedisdrummer09
    @Avedisdrummer09 8 днів тому

    They sound very similar, but the Remo has an almost brittle underlying crackle - I think due to the head not being fully seated and broken in, where Evans does seem to sit instantly. The UV2 has a little less slap in a good way too.

  • @ricrocren
    @ricrocren 17 днів тому

    Great comparison video! I'm in the UV2 corner all day. I much prefer that warmer more controlled tone and resonance. I've used Remo's for a great number of years and started trying out Evans' heads around 5 years ago. I still have Remo heads on one of my drum sets, but I only purchase and use Evans for the past couple of years now. One man's opinion.

  • @justinreynolds3935
    @justinreynolds3935 17 днів тому

    Love the uv2 but for recording metal they don't have enough snap on the rims for recording. Emperor clear is the snappiest tom head I have found. This is also on very thin 4.5mm shells.

  • @that-avr-drummer
    @that-avr-drummer 17 днів тому +1

    You're correct, both brands are amazing and it's what works for you that matters. I prefer how Remo has more personality and life to it. Are there times when I need more control? sure, but that's when I opt for a dampener of some sort. To each his own. I often put Aquarians on as well. Same goes for drum brands. All the major players have amazing kits at various price points. Again, it's what works for you.

  • @Iamadrummer
    @Iamadrummer 18 днів тому +3

    I prefer the more open and less controlled sound of the Remo Emperor coated head. If you like a more controlled deader sound, the Evans UV2 does that. I like my drums to be a more open and slightly ringy sound as to why I prefer the Remo heads. Not only that, but the Remo heads are a bit less expensive than Evans' heads. I have the Remo mesh heads on my e-kit, and the Remo Emperor coated heads on my accustic drum set.

  • @Spagz
    @Spagz 19 днів тому +7

    The UVs have a better attack I think. The Emperor has a little deeper fundamental tone. But in a mix in a crowd, nobody is gonna tell the difference really. Too close.
    As for the feel, probably the Emperor feels a little more "spongy"?? That's how they feel to me. Where the UV seems to play a little better with better rebound. It's slight.
    As for the quality, well the UV2 stays in tune. So does the Emperor, after a few weeks of tuning it back up several times a day. 😂🤣
    I don't even bother to push down on Evans heads any more when I put them on! I don't see a need, other than for centering. The Remo ya gotta crack the glue over and over. They are both great heads! But I prefer Evans now. I won't put anything on my Supraphonic but an Emperor though. Just as respect for Bonzo.
    🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁

  • @leetingler619
    @leetingler619 14 днів тому +1

    The Evans sounds a bit muffled, whereas the Remo has a more open and airy sound.
    The are both good you just have to think of them as tools.
    If you are going for a more muted sound, the Evans is for you. If you are needing a more open sound then Remo is your ticket.

      @ i have the total opposite, every drumkit that has Evans on it sound the same, even when you put those drumeads on diffrent drumits and Remo lets you hear the difference between drumkits. Imo, if you want attack but dead sound get Evans, if you want to truly hear your kit sing and sound good get Remo. If you get your tunings right you will be rewarded much more when you get Remo compared to Evans...
      Now there are drumkits that are made to have Evans drumheads on them and thats probably why some drumheads sound better with Evans drumheads, but, overall for me Remo sounds so much better.

    • @3lvisplay
      @3lvisplay 18 днів тому
