there are so many “foreigners” who had their childhoods under Kenneth Kaunda’s Zambia and since moved to other pastures of the world - only to realise as adults they’re still a bit of Zambian inside. I am one such person. This video took me down memory lane...to the comfort of my Dad and Mom’s presence. Both my parents have since passed away. Thank you for sharing this video 💝
"This part requires strength and patience" YOURE RIGHT! I swear any african woman who can make this has the arm of Thor! An african lady showed me how to make nshima and my arm got tired
I live in England and not that many people over here have heard of it. So I'm so blessed to have friends from Gambia because now I get to try all these foods. Especially Nshima, it's the best! I'm gonna be honest it is alittle hard but yummmm
I ❤️ your channel please share some more video. I originally fro Zambia but born I Denmark and this recipes is very helpful for me. Thanx you for taking time to do this videos ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾
Just to disagree on the " a lot of patience": you can practically cook nshima in 20-30 minutes depending on the temperature and size of pot you are using. I would say video is a little bit exaggerative in terms of "time"
Nonesence modern science has produce better and nicer cooking gadgets that cook real well by transferring and retain heat. All you need to buy better cooking pots and pans like All clad and it will cut the time to 20 to 30 minutes.Recipes don't change we simplify them.
Better pots and pans does simplify cooking. My grandma would cook this then put it in a pot and leave it next to the fire for hours it would continue steaming and when she came back it was ready. That allowed her to go work on the farm.Which is now what we have in slow cookers. After mixing you can steam it in an air fryer for an hour or Rice cooker for 30 minutes.Or wrap it in foil paper and put it in the oven while you are baking your chicken etc. This is steaming method modern times things have made it easier.Even look at that Sufuria sio ya maana. You can get a descent heavy duty Just Kali Sufuria and you are good. The recipe doesn't change but the methods of cooking have become better. You can now steam Matoke in a food steam for hours.
I like Millie rice South Africa people cook it that's diffrent inversion in grain cutted pieces anyway in India South India call it puttu so do South Africa people call it puttu

The time required is to make sure the maize meal is really cooked
That's alot. Compared to rice and spaghetti
Thank you!!!! I am in love with a Zambian girl and want to treat her Zambian style!!!
Nice! I tried making this with a Kale Relish. It turned out pretty good
In Swahili, it’s called Ugali or Sima.

Most of the food in Africa is the best
Wowowow i like it !!
Love it!
Exactly the same style we use in eastern kenya
Can I use cornmeal in the same way and get a similar result?
yes! goya has a white cornmeal, and that's the best one to use
wouldnt it be better to make a paste before adding the mealie meal into the pot? or your method is just as effective
This is not done correctly, the pot needs to spill over and cover the whole table... 😏
😂😂😂😂
