Man, as a relatively young man and a new father it brought a tear to my eye to see the excitement Clay has for Bear John here. I understand now the desire to share your passions with your children, and to see that here makes me excited to bring my daughter up in the out of doors. Thanks to meat eater for always putting out such awesome content!
@@jacobneymeyer9692 Black bear meat is one of the finest table fare meats in the natural world. It's also one of the best animals to harvest in terms of yield -- a person gets a LOT of meat off a black bear, compared to a yearling or 2 year old white-tailed deer. It's MUCH better than having state Agencies need to put down animals because the population exceeds carrying capacity -- the state benefits from the sale of licenses, which goes back into creating more and better habitat for all wildlife, and nothing goes to waste. Whereas in an animal damage control situation -- see CO -- bears are shot and left to rot on the ground.
Clay Newcomb your a southern man's southern man! God, family and the outdoors, Rinella knew what he was doing when he brought you on to the Meateaters staff. Finally, a man that I can understand and relate to! Your Bear Grease podcasts are the best thing going. Your Daniel Boone episodes were the best of the best. Being from Kentucky I take great pride in the story of Colonel Boone. There is another man that I think you should take a look at and that is Simon Kenton. He had as much to do with or more so than OL' Dan'l with the settlement of Kentucky. Thanks again Clay, I appreciate you.

I’ve rewatched this episode several times over the last couple of years but I’ve got to say now that I have a son of my own it means even more to me. My all time favorite episode of any hunting show
Hands down one of the best episodes, yet. Just stellar on all fronts. Our world would be in a lot better shape if more young men were raised up and given similar opportunities. Good job, Mr. Clay. Great dad work! :)
Clay, I dont think you understand just how important and meaningful it is to tell your son youre proud of him. I miss my pops. Wish I could hear him tell me he is proud of me again. Ill never forget the last time he told me, and when my brother told me how proud he was with tears running down his face after we were trying to digest the tragic news of his passing. This is just wholesome and so dang awesome. Good job Bear.
CONGRATULATIONS BEAR!! There's no better feeling for a Father than passing on the art of hunting to his Son or Daughter. Thanks for keeping the tradition alive.
Such a cool story. I had to come back and watch this one a second time a few weeks later. Love these personable stories and seeing the enjoyment on everyone’s face. A true American tale.
First Comment I’ve made on UA-cam…this is my favorite Meateater Episode yet. I almost teared up at both the send-off of Bear and the reunion after a successful hunt. Great stuff Mr. Clay!
Reminds me of when my old man and uncles would take me to deer camp for the week. It was cold and had some harsh days out there but I’m a better man today because of it. It’s great to see young men like Bear out enjoying what the creator has given us and honouring that animal with the amount of effort, determination and respect is really awesome too. Great episode
Absolutely loved seeing Bear be successful in his hunt. There absolutely aren't many hunters that could do that, and definitely something to be proud of...for both of you. Congratulations!
hands down my new favorite episode!!!! I was there when my sons got their first whitetail….and never a prouder moment until my oldest gave me a grandson and now my middle is having a baby girl after hunting season. I admit I almost teared up when Clay walked up to the boy.
Newcomb family & friends, thank you for sharing these moments with us, you didn't have to. Clay, another great story told. Kudos to the Meateater crew for capturing it and helping to share the story. In reading the other comments on here, I think this has really touched a lot of people.
Just when I thought i couldnt love the ppl of meateater enough, one of em sends their kid to hunt and the kid crushes it. back to back props for both of u.
One of my favorite episodes. I know how his young fella feels to want to do it the hard way. Good on him and good on Clay for having the right support/nurture instinct. Give that kid airtime!
Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older. But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. I'm a Bear Grease fan and have been hoping for video of bear camp since the Bear Grease episodes that talked about it. This goes way beyond expectation! Thank you for letting us in! Powerful episode, very uplifting!
Clay thank you for this!!! My daughters still 6 but I spend a lot of time think about the development of mind set and understanding of place. I appreciate your example as I work to define myself as a father.

I've got 4pts in WI, and I'll likely need 6-8 pts to draw a bear tag here in. I had NEVER considered bait as a better way to be selective in your harvest, but thinking about it, it's total and complete common sense. I love this perspective on bait. Thank you for explaining and shedding light on this strategy in such a relatable, understandable way. And how special that young man must have felt to have all of you turn out to help him with his bear and to celebrate that accomplishment. This is awesome.
Clay, I'm going to be a father this August after losing my dad last September very suddenly. What your son did was beautiful and I'm so excited to do that with my kids. Congrats, he's a special young man
Love it. I enjoyed listening to Bears first solo hunt on the podcast, glad I was able to watch the process that goes with the story. You guys rock Clay.
This is the single greatest episode I've seen from Meat Eater, sorry Steve. The solo high-moral ground I originally found in meat eater with Steve is optimized by this right here. This is the true, perfect, representation of the generational hunter, the most common way people get into hunting.
Three things about this episode, I was glad to see you get your bear but even more excited that your boy got his and lastly I used to play and sing that song with my brother many years ago.
Man I love Clay, never even met the guy and yet even on video when he starts and tells a story I'm just stopping everything I'm doing and focusing. It's even more interesting to see him talk on video because of everyone around him doing the same thing. Top notch guy, when he tells a story everyone goes so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
That was my favorite MeatEater/Bear Grease/Bear Hunting Magazine video I have seen in a long time. I enjoyed reading Clay's article last fall, and the video far exceeded my anticipation. That looks like the funnest camp with some great people in some great country.
Truly amazing! Keep up the good work clay and the bear grease crew! I have listened to every bear grease podcast and have been truly inspired! Love y'all!
Loved it keep up the amazing work clay and great job bear. Wish the Render was in video format as well, love just listening to y’all talk like being around the campfire with y’all. Makes me proud to be an ozark hillbilly much like yourself. And that was very much a complement.
Clay is one of my favorite people at meateater, he is such a great storyteller.

Clay said it best, not alot of 15 yr Olds or even grown men can spend 3 days up on a mountain and come back with bear grease, hats off to that
