One thing I have yet to find any videos on is curly hair. Straight or spikey hair is what you find the most info/resources on for video game pixel art I really would like to see a video done on this aspect
I really appreciate this video! im working on a game of my own (but funnily enough, being a game dev student means i basically work on every game but my passion project.) and i had recently redone my sprites to have a bit more expression, giving them mouths similar to earthbound characters, but i hadn't really delved into stretching those sprite proportions for crazy expressions yet. your videos are always a help, even for a more seasoned spriter like myself ! totally gonna have a lotta fun messing around with getting faces right.
Nice video - never thought about hairstyles being for MCs/protags - interesting perspective or hair style choice. Us pixel artists even have to be hair stylists :D I mostly think about what looks interesting, fun to animate or look at (and can actually pull off lol) and usually the sprite would follow the portrait (like in FFT) So glad to have found this channel. Videos like this are why.
As an artist you should try to strike a balance between breaking and following rules. If you want your protagonist to have a more "villainois" cut, you can make it work.
That's amazing! Just when I was wondering how can I improve my character's pixel art in my game! Thank you for this video, it's gonna be extremely helpful! :)
i would love a tutorial kinda like this but for animals or non human characters and the like, i find myself doing pixel art for a heavy fantasy setting with many kind of species that aren't human and i struggle the most doing heads on them.
I wonder if you'd ever plan to make a video about "perspective", like how to draw a character facing to the right and stuff like that, because that's SO hard for me... I tend to draw people facing to the camera and use the symmetric tool because that's just easier to do
Really enjoying Adam's content. I come from a Vector background, but getting into retro pixel art for our current dungeon project, and picking up a lot of good tips from his videos. Anyone know the name of the software that he's using to draw/sketch/paste images into? It looks really useful, being able to set up a board with all sorts of references on, and being able to pan/scroll/zoom in and out easily, as well as make notes on.
Please do an analysis on Trials of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 3) 1995. It's easily one of the most beautiful games I've ever played and I think its pixel art is outstanding, to say the least.
I was wondering what is your opinion on Pixelmon? It is an art program, often used to make pixel art and I coulden't find much information about it, I just wonder if you or someone say how good it is?
ty dude let me tell u something i had a sensi he knew all martial arts but he told me i just teach u like 10%. cuz i spent hard time for learn them he died cuz cancer about 2 years ago & he buried all his skills with himself why i saying it? just wana say. if u teach ppl before u die. they can teach others & this art & since dont die with u ty anyway btw i think third girl is more beauty ( right one )
You lost me at 9:20 . You touch on many already well known areas of pixel art but when you said it was a bad design I had to laugh out loud. Guys don't listen to this guy, open your own png or bmp and start working on it some of the information this guy is spilling out is flat wrong.
bro full making uni lectures for pixel art love it if this was a real class i might not be sleeping in the back row

Oh could I maybe try it out
I just spend 20 minutes watching this video. Man, I love pixelart. Thanks Adams

Thanks for doing a lesson on faces! I had a general idea on it, but this helped brighten my style choices even more!
The eyes being further apart, for cuteness.. was something thought of by the Japanese. They thought of the face of a cat
These videos have been a great resource as I start thinking about how to design my characters

Thank you for your videos, you are an inspiration. I hope my creations will be as beautiful as yours one day!
NEW UPLOAD! you are my favorite!

Every time I check you discord for notifications I pray for a video finally one came.
I never thought that I could enjoy your content more than I did (which was a lot), but then you mentioned Terraria. :D

Did you found the software?
@@jeanvillasboas3258 He's using Aesprite. Any paint program works but Aesprite is specifically for pixel art.

Oh GOD no wonder I had such a hard time doing faces. 8x8 is literally half the canvas I've been working on.
Awesome stuff. The character turned out cool too.
Adam the head collector.
Just when I most needed it
17:35 how did you remplace the blue with the green so fast ? I had to manually change the color when i do something like this in Asprite :o
In Aseprite, turn off "contiguous" when using the fill tool. It's in the hotbar above the canvas.
@@ellisstanley7361 thanks!!
Perfect! LOVE ur videos!
Any thoughts on the best engine to use to make a top-down pixel-art RPG game?
Really enjoyed this video. Thanks.
What software are you using?
giving expressions to heads is hella hard
Your hair is fantastic
Do you have any advice or starting point for scene transitions, opening scenes that use a more detailed style?

Sometimes we have to be critical of the things we love if we ever hope to improve on them.
Just what I needed today 🫂
